  1. european gamer afraid of cooties?

since when has "critical acclaim" meant good sales? I mean yeah, it'll prolly be a great game, but the advertising is extremely important for an odd game like this one. i think that's why they changed the name ... with a risky game like this one, a slightly more generic name will be easier to market. while its not a great name, the game is gonna be the same, and really, thats whats most important. 2. Hey Hey 16k!

    friggin hilarious! SiN
  3. nice stuff! im currently playing it using an emulator called Project Tempest ... it works very well, but i can imagine playing it on an actual jag would be pretty damn amazing. ive been playing for a couple of days now (nearly a week) and ive hit level 30 ... damn this game is hard! SiN
  4. Armed and Dangerous

its a VERY good game, but it definetly felt rushed. the game wasnt all that polished up, but the action was great, and the comedy was even better. if you can get it relatively cheap (<=$20) id say go for it SiN
  5. funny you should mention that ... i started playing it for the first time a couple of days ago, and it is indeed an excellent, excellent game. jeff minter (aka Yak) is a friggin genius ... a one man team who created the game that has got me "in the zone" faster than any other game ever did by a long shot. tempest 2000 is definetly great. its too bad Unity got cancelled, but ive been told he's still working on incredibly trippy/cool stuff. smart marketting consultants, simply because "wanda" will infact scare off buyers. you know, No One Lives Forever was an excellent game which sold terribly because the main character was a woman ... i read in an older issue of PCGamerUK that one of the NOLF developers witnessed someone return NOLF at a gaming store ... they said the reason was that "they didn't want to play a woman". a game like wanda and the colossus isn't gonna sell much anyway ... sony knows that but are still giving it the green-light. we should really be thankful of that, regardless of what the title of the game ends up being. 7. Games everyone hates (but are really great!)

also, totally agree! i thought it was a good game. it told a decent story, and the game had amazing atmosphere. the puzzles were a bit crap, but the game was good anyway. SiN
  8. Games everyone hates (but are really great!)

lots of people seemed to hate Black and White but i thought it was fantastic. I don't deny that the game was ultimately flawed, but even with those flaws, i think it is one of the greatest games ever. SiN
  9. suitably odd, pretty amusing. i quite liked it ... we demand more SiN
  10. im pretty sure i recall hearing valve talk about that before ... that there would be expansions (naturally) but also that alyx would be the star of one of them. im rather confident that'll happen ... im also hoping for a dog expansion pack ... that would be pretty damn cool SiN
  11. Tim on Gamespot TV Thing

i refuse to watch it ... i feel bad enuff watching the trailer, no way im gonna spoil the game for me anymore ... ... im just gonna assume that psychonauts is awesome, and im gonna buy it the day it comes out SiN
  12. Troika Games closes

i cant help but feel a bit pissed off, even though ive yet to actually play a troika game. its just so depressing knowing that all the developers are closing down left, right & center. SiN
  13. IGDA anounces GDCA nominees

my opinions ... Best Game Half-Life 2 -- theres simply no competition! New Studio The Behemoth (Alien Hominid) -- for being an awesome indy developer ... i havent played hominid yet, but i respect them for having the balls to self-fund the whole project Audio Doom 3 -- i quite liked doom3, and after the wow-factor of the graphics went away, the sound still got to me time & time again. Character Design Half-Life 2 -- without a doubt. excellently crafted characters, who seem as real as you and I, not because of the graphics, but because of their stories, emotions, etc. Game Design Katamari Damacy -- i've only played it briefly, but its the most original thing i've played in a long time. Technology Doom 3 -- the only REAL next-gen graphics engine. Source is still very much in leauge with Q3A when it comes to graphics rendering and stuff. the D3 engine is truely innovative programming by the only man who can pull off more-or-less making a full engine single handidly ... Visual Arts Half-Life 2 -- ... having said that, hl2 made up for that by having an awesome and coherent world, which is great! Writing Half-Life 2 -- wins by default, the only game on the list i played ... although the writting was great anyway. SiN
  14. The Godfather: Why Even Bother

agreed. i dont like EA's practices either, but who knows, this may turn out good. im not putting any faith into it or anything, but u never know. im gonna reserve judgement until after we have a bit more info on it. SiN
  15. Hapland

  17. Holy Testicle Tuesday

when i first saw the first image on steam news, i was absolutely stunned by it! then i thought, "oh wait, thats just concept art" but now im like, "woah, is it concept art?" im rather confused SiN
  18. Half-Life 2 Spoiler Thread

i know this is an ancient topic im bring up from the dead, but i JUST finished HL2 last night so i had to make some sort of comment ... GREATEST. GAME. EVER. there! it simply had to be said. i havent quite decided whether this knocks Grim Fandango from my #1 spot, but at worst it'll stay comfortably at #2. the ending IMO, was simply amazing. i beat the game at around 3:30am, headphones, no lights, so i was totally immersed into the thing ... my jaw was wide open during the ending bit. just as everything was going down i wondered "how the fuck are we gonna get out of this one?" and damn, valve handled it with bloody style! My money is on Dog being the player in the next add-on pack. The way he hangs on to that ship and is flown away makes him perfect for the job. you have a whole plot about him being in some Combine base, perhaps even meeting Alyx on the way ... i was a tad bit disappointed with the lack of story, but i didnt mind it too much ... i kinda like the whole "i have no bloody clue" feeling. i think that HL2 was simply laying out the story for HL3. you have to keep in mind that HL was never meant to have a sequel, it was never meant to be as big a hit as it was. so when HL2 came around, i think Laidlaw decided to use it as the basis of a new story line of sorts. which is why im putting my money of HL3 being ridiculously epic & having a strong storyline. the framework has been set. and i get the feeling its gonna be similar to the HL1->HL2 transition ... due to your actions at the citadel, a bunch of shit happend, your not quite sure what did happen when u first start the game, but it'll come together slowly. whatever it is though, i cant friggin wait for HL3! SiN
  19. yeah, sounds like great stuff. and summer 2005 isnt too far away ... i'll definitly be keeping a close eye on this one! SiN
  20. Darwinia Demo!!!

@ysbreker: same here ... except its even more annoying for me. canada counts as "rest of the world" so i have to pay C$70 for the game, where as in the states, its a mere C$50. its kinda annoying, but i just might crack & shell out for the game anyway ... ... simply because they've been working on this for 3 years, and have stated that they're in quite the debt ... they NEED this money to keep themselves alive. @Walter: i kinda agree with you. IMO, the basics of the game should be laid out. u shouldnt have had to "figure out" that right-click = fire. that should have been told to you at the apropriate time (and it was btw, u just werent paying attention ). however, i love it when u discover the subtile things yourself ... its just SO much more rewarding. to sum up : tell me the basics, let me figure out the rest. i beat the demo last night ... absolutely awesome! the game works SO well, and has so many neat ideas ... even the little things are awesome, like converting polygons to primitives the only problem is the game should have had its intense moments (like the battles with the spiders) but those were lost due to the whole "i cant lose" thing. somewhat annoying, but the game is a blast anyway! SiN ps : for those spiders, i'd highly recommend switching to rockets
  21. Darwinia (from the creators of Uplink)

    Err ... http://forums.idlethumbs.net/showthread.php?t=1822 SiN
  22. Darwinia Demo!!!

heh, i also thought the game was VERY black&white-eque, but thats not a bad thing IMO. I guess the whole british-developer-influence had something to do with it. im pretty sure introversion will mix it up as we go further into the game, but im rather satisfied with what i see. basically, its cannon fodder/syndicate for the next generation. u shoot at things they blow up, u choose the right weapons for the right job ... u make decisions as to which squad should be terminated, etc. i dont think the game is suppose to be challenging in that head-scratching lets-think-of-the-most-super-complex-tactics way, and i for one like that! this is more of a throwback to when RTS's were simpler games ... when they were actually fun. the only thing that bothers me is that it doesnt seem possible to lose at all. introversion said there was, but only on the testers board (so we cant see it). i cant really see any obvious way as to how you'd lose. i guess if later on, virii could take over your bases, it would be possible to lose. either way, im very pleased with how this turned out. SiN
  23. Darwinia Demo!!!

thats where i got stuck too. apparently u CAN kill them, but only with explosive based weaponary. I'm gonna try a rocket-launcher and/or airstrike later today. introversion said that the full game will come with a tutorial level, so that should be okay. as for the controls, they arnt all that bad, i got used to them VERY quickly. the whole WASD thing is great, and the alt-tab thing is genius! SiN
  24. Majesco interview

yeah, i read the interview a couple of hours ago, not a great interview, but i liked the responses! although, that is typical publisher talk. while it seems that majesco are gonna be pretty awesome, the proof is in the pudding, and currently, i see no pudding ( err, or something ) SiN
