"On the Spot," Psychonauts on "On the Spot," and other gamer TV
SiN replied to Moosferatu's topic in Video Gaming
i havent actually watched the interview for fear of spoilers/footage of the game. is there any footage while tim is talking, or is it possible to fast forward thru the footage and just watch his interview? SiN -
err, kinda. heres what is known. first off, its not fable. second, its been in development since black&white was released ... so its been a good 4 or so years already. the technology it uses is what drives lionhead : everything you see in lionheads other games use dmitri's base code, so the facial expression technology, face morphing, good & evil aspect, etc. was all designed for dmitri. most interestingly though, when molyneux was asked "what is dmitri about?" in an interview, he said, "I cant tell you. It's such a simple concept that if I told you, you'd be asking a hundred other questions." (or something very close to that anyway). He also did quite a bit of talking about the beauty of sandbox games in that same interview. so as you can see, alot is known about the game, but it really amounts to nothing. SiN

having read that article, this e3 certainly seems like its gonna be exciting ... im hoping lionhead will surprize us all by giving us a glimpse of dmitri ... but i doubt thats gonna happen. SiN

anyone by any chance watch Button Mashing on gamespot? it's their game-show based on gaming. Definitly worth watching for the hilarious (but well done) intro alone. And while the rest of the show can sometimes be a bit painful to watch, its great stuff ... fun to watch and all about gaming. sure it isn't the most professional stuff out there, but i'm just glad somebody is doing this stuff. 'cos while i hate gamespot just as much as anyone, you have to respect them for trying to do something different. and there's no doubt in my mind that things WILL get better. around a year ago, things like "On the spot" and "Button Mashing" were simply not possible at gamespot. Now they are. They've been getting better & better equipment. And hiring people to work gamespot live. Give it time, and it'll get better. For now, I think what gamespot needs is the support of it's users. SiN -
Is it out on PC yet? SiN

surprizingly, i actually liked what gamespot did this year ... i found the news post hilarious! last year they were a bit crap, but this time they did a better job ... and yes, naturally, it is a hoax!!! SiN

so who's gonna get the review anyway? the great thing about being a pc gamer is that i havent played a platformer in years ... the last one i played was mario64 about 3 years ago. so to me, im guessing psychonauts will be great in terms of gameplay, because i dont know any better. ahh, blissful ignorance but as its been stated before, we're not buying this game for the platforming aspects, we're buying it for the humour, story, dialogue, art-style, etc. i'm positive it'll deliver on all of the above, and even though gameplay is important, as long as its pretty solid and the controls are responsive i'll be happy. quick guys! i'm heading off to the mall today to fix up my preorder blunder (i preordered it for ps2 instead of pc), but im still not sure about this pack of cards thing. so, i'll bring the question up again, hoping someone can answer it in about 2 1/2 hours ... if i preorder psychonauts from an ebgames in canada, do you think i'll still get the pack of cards with it? SiN
-
well, the game was a bit laggy the day of the update, but on the upside, i got another week of free WoW, so i cant really complain SiN
-
@lailoken: i was just as pissed at it, so i downloaded the patch off gamespot ... i think MAYBE a basic subscription is needed (free anyway), but none of that 3rd party downloader crap, so it worked out really well. SiN
-
the 9600 is definitly a classy card ... it'll do u well. im not quite sure what the XT means, but it'll either mean "striped down" or "souped up". either way, it should do u well for upcoming games. im betting that u'll be able to run psychonauts on max detail with it, and most games in the future on at least medium. mind u, i am an nvidia guy, so i might be wrong SiN

damn, i'm getting ridiculously excited ... i just pre-ordered my copy yesterday! question though ... ive never done this pre-ordering thing before, so help me out. i live in canada, and i pre-ordered psychonauts from ebgames hoping to get the pack of cards with it. the guy said "he didnt hear anything about this offer" but i figured he was just a dumbass ... if theres an offer in the states, will it make it here to canada? hey ... wait ... FUCK! i was gonna ask u guys why i paid C$70 for my copy (which is WAY more than the pc version should cost), and i was just checking my receipt to double-check the price ... then i noticed that THE GUY PUT ME DOWN FOR A PS-FUCKING-2 COPY OF THE GAME!!! GRRR ... now im gonna have to go back there and get it changed ... since im a poor student without a car, thats gonna be tough ... SiN
-
i am EXTREMELY excited ... this will definitly justify me buying a DS SiN
-
hmmm ... well, ill be heading off to the mall this tomorrow ... i guess i'll ask the guy at ebgames about it, although i'm willing to bet they wont know either ... hell, when i asked when psychonauts was being released they didnt even know the bloody game existed! SiN
-
seeing as ive never done the whole pre-order thing before, i have a question to ask ... ebgames says the pack-o-cards are "while supplies last" ... does this mean : (i) the amount of cards are limited to each store (so i'll get the cards as long as the supplies last in that store) OR ... (ii) the amount of cards are limited to ebgames as a company (so i'll get the cards so long as x people havent pre-ordered before me) thanx SiN

those look absolutely stunning! SiN

sounds absolutely stunning. its the type of concept only will wright could come up with ... and him (and Molyneux) are the only people in the industry who'd actually get away with creating and finding a publisher for such an "out-there" game. this really seems like the sum of all of Will Wrights game theory concepts rolled into one game, and i love that. it encompases the "tinkering" quality all his games have, the user creativity factor he's always strived for, and on a couple of occasions, he has talked about game assets getting to become too big ... the solution to this problem is certainly the most intriguing part of the game (ie : the fact that all the media will be created on-the-fly) im looking forward to some screenshots ... i bet its gonna look like nothing else we've every seen ... i cant wait! SiN

i JUST saw the news on gamespot, and i was bloody ecstatic ... i cant wait!!! SiN

Yoshi Touch and Go! Meteos Metroid SiN
-
Infected and Luminies are the only games that look interesting on the PSP. and even Infected im not sure about ... yeah its a planet moon game, but from what little info we know about it (its based in the future in new york city) it sounds like PM are playing it a bit safe this time around ... but i still have faith in them SiN
-
don't forget meteos either ... at first it looked like a typical puzzler that i wasn't gonna enjoy, but having seen a couple of videos of it in action it looking amazing! SiN
-
about the wifi ... apparently they're going to talk about their online plan either at the gdc or at e3 ... so im willing to bet at one of those times. as for games, i dont have a ds (yet), but ive been looking forward to Yoshi Touch and Go! for ages, and now that its out, it seems that people absolutely love it! That might be worth picking up ... SiN
-
dont forget the friggin awesome "Yohsi Touch and Go!". If/When i get myself a DS this summer, that'll be the first game i get! go to the official website linked at the top, skip the intro, and click on the first bubble ... then be in awe SiN
-
it certainly is because of the crazy arse design of the DS! i think as time passes, developers are gonna get more and more creative with the system ... so far thats been happening, i hope this goes on, because that video is fucking stunning! SiN
