  2. Heschent

    Do you even like games?
  3. Penny Arcade

Is it just me or has Penny Arcade just become crude and unfunny? Even more than it was before? I mean, every second word is 'fuck'. And the punchline to every comic is 'fuck'. And I understand that Tycho knows far more words than I ever hope to know, but does he have to use every single one of them in all his updates? Reading his news posts is like drowning in a swamp of the english language. You would think that, knowing so many words, he'd be able to find a few alternatives to 'shit' and 'fuck'. And everything Gabe draws looks the fucking same. Also, what's with the news posts? It's basically a big bunch of links now. God, Jesus, Argh. I hate Penny Arcade so much.
  4. Penny Arcade

But they really get my goat Okay let's think of positive things to say. Oo, I have one! I used to love Penny Arcade! They used to rock! Oh, but it was unfashionable to like Penny Arcade back then, so I guess that made me a loser. Now I'm pissed off again. Way to go, Kingz ... I think the only PA strip I have liked recently, is that one where Gabe gets eaten by a snake, and I think that's mostly because Gabe gets eaten by a snake. One thing I definitely do love is that Monkey Island fangame!!!
  5. Penny Arcade

I'm not hating PA as part of a fashion statement or anything, if that's what you mean? I think that the swearwords they use in most instances are unnecessary and make the comic/humour seem less intelligent. I also think Gabe and Tycho come across as pricks. I wasn't aware this was some kind of fashion statement. I also wasn't aware it was ever fashionable to hate Edge or Nintendo. I mean, that's probably because I don't know what Edge is, and as for Nintendo, I've never particularly liked them. Maybe this made me super-cool throughout 2004 without even knowing it, or perhaps my refusal to move with gamer opinion fashion is what's caused me to become super-lame in recent weeks. Is it still cool to like adventure games? What about Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, should I like that? I think you should tell me so I can alter my opinion accordingly. And what's so good about Penny Arcade that I can pretend to like it in order to not seem last year? Game Opinion Fashion matters so much to me, I don't want to fall behind. P.S. The comic you showed is pretty much exactly like another comic they had a while back... but the other one was funnier. Can anybody remember it? Gabe spoiling some movie for Tycho? Or was it the other way around? Yeah, I don't actually hate them so much as I'm really frustrated that their standards seem to have fallen so low. Then again, you seem to like it, so I guess it's working for some. Myself, I preferred the Penny Arcade of about a year ago which, unfortunately, seemed fashionable to dislike. Man am I out of tune with this shtuff.
  6. I pretty much worship John Barry. The Living Daylights and View To A Kill were both awesome soundtracks. I also loved Moulin Rouge.
  7. Nokia unveils new premium phones

In reply to whoever said about Cell Phones destroying personality: Screw Cell phones, the next time one of my friends starts listening to his MP3 player instead of participating in group conversation... Also, Lai, Nokia made an unbreakable phone a while back... I don't know the model number, but basically it was waterproof, shockproof, otherstuffproof... I remember bouncing it against walls like a rubber ball when I got bored. It wasn't even my phone.
  8. Nokia unveils new premium phones

Good Grief! That phone also doubles as a Rubics Cube! When will the madness end!? I had a Nokia 3310 for about four years. It was the best ever. I could compose my own ringtones fluently... it was creepy. I could actually sit there speedily punching in a ringtone. I put it in a hot wash once, and left it soaking in dishwater overnight, and yet it still worked. I would drop it every single day, and spill coffee over it every other day. It cost me e75, and came with e100 free call credit... Eventually, it got stolen. And once, I found a Nokia 3310 that had been thrown out of somebody's car as they drove along the main Carlow-Kilkenny road. It was in several pieces and had been there overnight in the rain and mud. And it still worked. All it needed was a new cover. Those phones were fucking awesome. Then I got a Motorola V300. Worst piece of shit ever. Freezes up randomly so I have to take out the battery and restart it. Battery life is worthless, and it refuses to accept incoming calls. Scratched to shit, and the ringtones are all equally lame. I hate polyphonic ringtones. Nokia were great before they became shit. My little sister's middle name is Nokia. What was so great about the 3310's, is that they were just phones. They weren't game consoles and personal organisers and FM radios and MP3 players and GPS systems all in one, which my brother's phone is, they were simply phones. And they were built like a brick shithouse. One day, Nokia 3310's will make a comeback like the Volkswagon Beetle, and everybody will want one.

Cold Fear: Game won't even start. Crash Twinsanity: Crap, frustrating, boring, repetitive. PC World: In response to massive demand, orders in one copy of Rome: Total War per week.
  10. Game Packaging Sucks

I don't know. I've only seen pictures of the Psychonauts box art... that sounds ridiculous, but I really want to see it ON the actual BOX before I pass judgement on it. I mean, too much judgement. But I like the colours and the art, which as Netmonkey mentioned, isn't just 3D rendered shtuff. I think I'm going to like it a lot, and at the very least, it's going to stand out amongst the other Xbox games. Which are predominantly brown. I very much liked the designs of old, such as the Monkey Island 1 and 2 boxes and the DOTT box, which I still remember clearly although I haven't seen them in ten years. Gosh, I don't mean to start whining about how game boxes used to be better, but I wish that level of love and care was put into the packaging now. P.S. I can't think of the HL2 box art offhand, but I can definitely say I don't like the Hitman box. I admit that it's quite effective in it's simplicity, but I don't like it. It's ugly, bland, boring.
  11. Tim Schafer on Icons today on G4

Ah, right. Yeah, that show was ridiculous. It seemed somehow patronising or something...
  12. Tim Schafer on Icons today on G4

I watched that a couple days ago I think, and if I remember correctly the opening to it went something like this: Guy: Hey, could somebody tell us where we might find Tim Schafer, creator of such games as Grim Fandango and Full Throttle? Girl: I think he's right here with us in the studio, Zachary! Guy: Wow! Hi Tim! It nearly made me weep. But Tim is great. I might be thinking about a different interview he recently had?

    GameCube: Overrated. Gave up.
  14. Write some reviews in 15 words or less

I have no respect for that console. Maybe it was the shitty ad campaign it got over here or something. It was like it wanted people to buy the Xbox or PS2 instead. The Cube actually wanted people to not buy it! If the Xbox had gotten the same shit ad campaign, we'd all be laughing delightedly over how retarded Microsoft is for not putting enough effort in to it. Instead it's Nintendo, so we curse stupid consumers for being stupid and not seeing how brilliant it really is. Well fuck consumers, because consumers think POP2 is shit hot cool. Putting Psychonauts on the Gamecube would have been a waste of time and money. Fuck Nintendo. And fuck Majesco. How come there are no Psychonauts Adverts in ANY of the April or May issues of ANY of the Game Mags over here? Oh, there was ONE... in Gamepro. Gamepro! Who the fuck buys GAMEPRO!? It's not even stocked in the Book Centre! I found a copy at the back of fucking Centra!!! Oh yeah, putting Psychonauts on the Gamecube would have been a great idea! You could put all that time and effort and money into advertising in Nintendo Magazines, porting, blah blah blah, and then about ten people could buy it! Maybe they could port it to the Sega Goddamn Megadrive/Genesis, too! Fuck Nintendo. Sorry, to Summarise in 15 words: I really want to play Psychonauts.
  15. POP3 still generic, still raging

Okay, here's an observation. Every guy I know loves POP2. Every guy outside of Internet Land. I think I'm the only person who bitterly resents it. Most guys seem to think it's shit cool and ultra fun. I don't know. Why is it that the mass gamer population is retarded?
  16. Ron Gilbert

I think the folks over at AGS are planning some THING with Ron Gilbert, blah blah blah. Are any of you UKers going? Basically they're going to meet up with Ron on the 7th/8th in London, and chat about stuff. Anybody?
  17. Ron Gilbert

Jesus Christ, your thumb is so elegant.
  18. Ron Gilbert

Sorted, then. Spaff, Nick, other UKers, are you going?
  19. Ron Gilbert

Baconian, if you want to head over with me, the flight is Ten euro. Ten Euro! I think I'll start doing my shopping in London! Ha ha ha! Delicious!
  20. No Okami thread?

Shame you have no say over the content of that website.
  21. xbox 360 design

That would be so fucking deadly cool!
  22. Yet another Psychonauts thread

Overall, I loved the atmosphere of Discworld Noir... I can still remember those dark shadows and chilling, mysterious music.... some wonderful locations like the Church of Small Gods, and some really great ideas like the whole Smell collecting bit... however, I was disappointed that the game appeared somewhat unpolished. Rhodan the Sculpture was one of my biggest problems... fucking fucker! Overall, I didn't enjoy the conversations much... I felt that, although very funny and well written, the long winding Terry Pratchett dialogue didn't translate well to a game. Some, if not most of the conversations seemed pointless and I disliked the way you could ask the same questions over and over, instead of having used dialogue options removed. Some of the animations were twitchy and obvious loops, such as several character talking animations. But, it was an excellent game. If it had have spent a few weeks longer being polished, and if it wasn't for the winding and pointless Pratchett conversations seemingly taken directly from a novel, it would be high on my list of favourites. Like Psychonauts!
  23. While waiting for Psychonauts...

Chris. You need to let it go.
