  1. I haven't been able to sleep because of this book and have fallen into a deep depression. I think it reached subtly into something inside me and pressed on it. That's probably the mark of a great book.

I have a lot of thoughts about it. They're not worth sharing. All I can say is that some sort of despair ballooned inside of my chest and I've been distracted ever since.

Hope you're alright there, Kroms. I don't think the book was meant to fill you with despair! :-/

  2. Skip Rebirth. The author did one beta release and then got hired at a game company. Plus he made some bizarre choices with the character designs. It was promising, but ultimately disappointing. Just go with SHTUP only!

You know, this game is what Dead Space wishes it was... Sure, you laugh at the psychic monkeys the first time you see them, but the game is so brutal that even on the easiest setting the game is ridiculously intense!

Although it's "intensity" is getting on my nerves... :|

Yep. Welcome to the fun! (Remember the ini files where you can tweak respawn rates.)

  3. I found all three in about 30 seconds. Yay!

The wave, the glove, the sail.

Clearly everyone in your office sucks. Either that, or we're all awesome! (Actually I'm sure it's a ton more easier when you don't have to scroll around.)

  4. You can make all kinds of stuff with a fuzzy logic rice cooker. I won't argue against the utility of a pressure cooker (because I'm currently in the market after watching America's Test Kitchen's recent YouTube series on them, here's

), but if you consume a lot of rice you can get a fair amount of the variety that you can get from a pressure cooker with a nice Zoji rice cooker. I'd know, because I eat rice with everything (everything).

Yes, a lot of people do. Especially those who come from countries where everything comes with rice (as opposed to here in the UK, where everything comes with chips). I feel like buying one just to spite Tycho.

  5. A good rice cooker is one of the best investments you will ever make. It makes for very cheap and effortless meals, and you can get pretty creative with throwing in different ingredients. The best, by far, are the Zojirushi cookers. I have the 3-cup version, but they make larger ones as well. They're the most durable ones you'll find, and very easy to clean.

One of the cooler features is a timer that won't start the cooker at a certain time, but will instead make sure that the rice is DONE around a particular time. This way you can have the rice ready when you get home from work—and if you're late, there's a "keep warm" feature that'll keep it tasty for up to an hour. I personally fell in love with Basmati rice, but it'll cook all kinds.

I've heard similar things from other rice-cooker owners. Apparently they're awesome devices.

  6. I agree that the whole "they used money to fund Borderlands 2" thing sounds a bit suspicious. It's more likely Gearbox used in-house resources to make Borderlands 2, while out-sourcing ACM. It also doesn't ring true that he sincerely believes Gearbox lied to the public. Still, I have no doubt there would be office scuttlebutt, and I could see that he'd believe the version of events that he heard, even if the rumours had mangled some of the facts.

  7. Well I'm someone who likes to experience everything the game has to offer, and I'm pretty sure these clues lead to areas that you wouldn't necessarily see.

Playing the video fullscreen, I really found it distracting having to switch my eyes between the two. Has anyone else tried watching it fullscreen to see if they felt the same?

  8. Well surely you'd have the ability to turn off pop-ups, too? I think part of my problem with the box in the corner is that I believe it's essential. As in, turning it off would make the game pretty unplayable...? You certainly get the impression that it offers important information watching the video.

  9. I got this in my email today:

"After about 190,000 views our original video was deleted by Vimeo. After two days of back and forth with them they apologized for the mistake and put it back up, but the link that went out with the last Kickstarter update is still broken."

    Nice going, Vimeo!

Here's a 1080p version of the video from YouTube...

Watching the video again, in full screen 1080p, it seems like the game might have some serious UX problems :-/ Having clues appear as text in the bottom right hand corner is very annoying. It's not immediately clear what the text is referring to, and it forces you to look away from the action. Surely it would be better if a speech bubble appeared over the things it was referring to?

So instead of this (NOTE: the clue in the text box in the bottom right hand corner):
