It's been a weird year for games for me. I don't believe there's been anything I've completely fallen in love with. I'll see if anyone mentions anything that I've forgotten.

Well this actually seems to be the closest thing we've got to a Blackwell thread, and what with them being Remastered now and everything, I thought I'd start playing through them again. Got to say; I've only played the beginning of Blackwell Legacy Remastered so far (and I think the changes are pretty minor -- new voice acting being the biggest change) but I love these games so much. The word and the characters are wonderful. BBX recently brought up to me that he thought the puzzles were terrible in the first game, or at least up until where he'd played, and I couldn't remember what I thought about them. Playing through it again I couldn't complain, I guess I'm a sucker for well-drawn characters, but listening to the new commentary from Dave Gilbert he goes into quite a bit of detail about why the early puzzles suck. When it's explained to you, you can really see that it's not the best way to introduce someone to a game. He apologises profusely for the mistakes he made as a beginner, but it's funny that they didn't bother me. Yes, at one point you're asked to read 25 pages of letters (there's only a paragraph or less on each page so it doesn't take long -- but I can see it's not very user friendly) and yes, there's a conversation with a doctor at the beginning that's absurdly long for a new player (this was made easier for me, second time around, because I knew what was coming I could absorb it better), but I guess I'm quite forgiving because I never really noticed until they were pointed them out to me. The characters are wonderfully drawn, though. Totally consistent and real. A real breath of fresh air after the bland non-characters of Gemini Rue (although that game is still worth playing, if only for the awesome atmosphere). So anyways, I'm looking forward to playing through them all again. And in case you missed it: The Remastered versions will be made available to all previous owners in Jan. They're also available now as part of the Indie Royale Bundle. -
The first three The Blackwell Games have been remastered... Not sure if that's going to be a good thing or a bad thing, but anyway. New voice acting! Um, and some cosmetic changes, apparently. Existing customers get them for free*, but for everyone else, you can get all three games as part of the Indie Royale Christmas Bundle. It's an amazing deal. I bought the games for a LOT more than $5. * - Existing customers get it in January - if you want them now, you need to buy the Indie Royale Bundle.

I don't usually go for these sorts of things, but I caught this one, and I laughed.

I stumbled across this today and it cracked me up. The first thing I've ever seen from Community... and it makes me want to watch it. 24d4wDFDeqU

Yes, I have too much time on my hands... I think it's fair to say that the general public might be feeling a little zombie fatigued for good reason: We've seen a relative explosion of Zombie things in recent years. PS - Yes, this is a real chart based on real data... Well data from Wikipedia, anyway.

Didn't you know? Idle Thumbs is the internet home of hipster gamers everywhere.

As this is really just one big love-in, it would have been more interesting if Takai had taken aim at Firefly. Nathan Fillion would have undoubtedly produced his own, much funnier, video... I hope we don't see one from Robert Pattinson any time soon. Here's the complete chronology for those who (like me) had no idea what this was in reference to: 5BYNdTHjstI nU2jqIRjJVI pPiWm4mGgyg

I don't know if this'll help your aching brain, but; I don't think it was televised. I think it was made for YouTube.

Wow. I just remembered another reason why I dislike that show: It's not funny.
-
Haha. I liked it. I think the satire could be more pointed, as Rodi said (Is it mocking mainstream media coverage of games? Is it mocking Rockstar? Is it just a weird fantasy world?). Not sure I agree with the "faster editing" statement, though. I don't really understand how it could be "faster". Anyways, I enjoyed it. Rodi, the kids that got that reference will have LOVED it.

I was just going to post about a pretty sweet deal, but it looks like it just got slightly less sweeter. The entire Battlestar Galactica on Bluray for £55GBP / $85USD: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Battlestar-Galactica-Complete-Blu-ray-Region/dp/B0027UY8B8 It's gone up, as of today, to £66GBP / $104USD, though. And Stanley Kubrick on Bluray was £21GBP / $33 USD: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stanley-Kubrick-Visionary-Filmmaker-Collection/dp/B004MW57KA/ Except as of today it's gone up to £40GBP. Balls. I can't believe that. Sorry folks, this has become the post that simply points out "great deals you recently missed" I had good intentions.

This isn't comical, but I think it's really cool...

Cool. In that case, playing it like Rodi is another thing that makes me want to play this game.

Dead Island fails to live up to its name and is in fact alive
ThunderPeel2001 replied to Thrik's topic in Video Gaming
Sorry, I was behind on this thread. Carry on. -
You'll have to post your map so we can all compare. It sounds like an interesting way to play, my only personal fear would be hitting the invisible barrier... Or that the game wasn't designed well enough for me to make my way to important places with the map. (Can you ask people for directions?)

Yet another song that sounds really good slowed down... d0Ud0tSx1tw Makes me think of the ending of a fantasy movie or something. Sort of Bladerunner meets Wild at Heart via Drive.

You know he's acting, right? -
Zombies are hot right now.

Well, after that negativity, here's someone genuinely trying to counteract it... al4ctc41IIE
