Wow. And to think, I don't even like their podcast. I seriously feel like Statler and Waldorf amongst all this excitement. NpYEJx7PkWE

So I bought the "Cheers" Complete DVD Boxset on eBay for £45GBP ($72) which is a good price, but not suspiciously good. (I recently bought the "Frasier" Complete Boxset for £50 odd.) But when it arrived it was just DVD-Rs with episodes downloaded off the internet on it. No matter where your moral compass points in a situation like this, it was certainly not worth £45! I complained to the seller and he said, "send them back and I'll give you a refund". Now this made me pause. 1. Why should I pay my own money shipping them back to help this douche go and sell this POS DVD set to someone else? 2. I couldn't believe the nerve that he would ask for these highly illegal, highly cheap, DVD rip-offs to be sent back. According to his account he'd already sold 15 of them... £675's worth! And now he's insisting on getting these POS DVD-Rs back before he'll refund me? WTF? 3. This guy's account was clearly very dubious. When I looked at it closely, he seemed like just the type of guy who would make me send the DVDs back and then not refund me. Leaving me totally fucked. So I get in touch and say, "I don't trust you. I think you would have refunded me already if you were actually planning on doing so." He gets belligerent, at this point, repeating his request for me to send the discs back. So I escalate it to eBay -- which is really what I should have done straight away. They looked into it, and now THEY are insisting that I pay to send these discs back in order to get refund. I couldn't believe it. I sent them a message asking if they missed the part where I said they were illegal copies. They asked me to call them to discuss it further... And that's what I've just been doing. I spent 20 minutes with someone in their customer help centre explaining to me that this was their normal policy. There's nothing I can do about it... even though I'm probably breaking the law by sending these discs through the post. And I'm being forced to pay to send these illegal discs back to the seller! I asked if there was any way I could send them proof of the fact that these are DVD-Rs, and they said that it wouldn't be possible to so in time... They've given me 10 days to send the discs back to the seller, otherwise they close the case, and they'd only accept a note from the manufacturer or the Post Office. How freaking absurd! The Pirate Bay gets their asses kicked, but eBay allows these things to continue. WTF?

So what you're saying is: You haven't already donated to Double Fine Adventure...

If they make $4million I'll eat my hat* * - And by "eat my hat", I mean let you gloat over me.

Lol. Sorry, Castorp. I've helped people asking for things like this in the past on the forum, I just keep missing yours. -
Not me. Regarding this QA confusion... GAMES testers are NOT the same as software testers. Their pay is not comparable.

Wow, I guess I'm in a teeny tiny minority here. After reading all your comments I watched the trailer and loved it. I even loved the music. The only thing that was bad was the performances, dialogue, and facial animation (LA Noire has spoiled me in that regard). And the performances and dialogue are on par with 90% of other games out there (i.e. awful). As far as I can tell it's Die Hard on an Island -- which is something I'd like to play.

The Binding of Isaac is an RPG?

I bet they'd have no idea what I was talking about if I asked for one of those... Do you have to explain what you want? UK customer service (as I'm sure you remember), is very much one of, "computer says no". I can imagine them saying something like, "I can give you an Expresso, and a Chai Latte, but you'll have to mix them yourself".
-
Hurrah! I loved that.
-
I bet. Coffee made well is one life's pleasures. I love it when I get my drink made by someone who knows what they're doing. I feel like hugging them.
-
subbes, I believe he went for the supervisor role, so he may not be making drinks... If he is though, I'll have a Grande Chai Tea Latte.

Yeah, I know what you're referring to. That sort of testing is way more involved and technical, and so leads to those sorts of salaries. I wish I earned that much as a games tester!

7 people used to like text adventures?

The staff in Starbucks always seem happy, so I hope it turns out to be a place where they value their workers... Especially if you're getting more or less what you were on before. You may actually end up loving it. Who knows.

The review wasn't that long ago. Not the game. (2005 vs 1993)

I guess you missed the bit where SiN claimed that the starting salary for (games) testers was $65-$80K per year? That's where this all came from. The fact that San Francisco offers a few cents more on minimum wage is besides the point. (I live in London, I'm well aware of living in a place with a higher cost of living, and so higher wages to match -- even increased minimum wage.)
-
Maybe... But what about Text Adventures? Have the number of people that love them has increased a hundred fold, too?
-
Yes, everyone gets paid at least 60k a year. Even the folk at Starbucks.

She was portrayed by a real life child, wasn't she? It's not like Monica in a fat suit.
