The Pirate Bay upgrades to being sky pirates
ThunderPeel2001 replied to Henroid's topic in Idle Banter
It's so funny. All copyright holders have to do is make it easy to watch stuff online for a reasonable cost, and it'll kill 90% of piracy. People are lazy! Just look at iTunes... Well I COULD search for the torrent, or I could just use the system I'm familiar with, and know that I'll be able to find the song I'm looking for. I'm sure there's still music piracy, but I'm betting that it would be a million times worse if iTunes (and similar legal services) didn't exist. -
Battlestar Galactica (BSG) and spinoffs

You're full of the joy of spring today, aren't you? -
Yeah, this is a little weird (Fincher did a MUCH better job, too). And the logo reminds me of the font they used to use on Red Dwarf. The whole project has signs that it's been struggling. Still, it could turn out to be great. We'll see. WVLvMg62RPA

Battlestar Galactica (BSG) and spinoffs

All that stuff worked for me! Did you watch Caprica, then? -

I don't believe anyone is saying that age ratings are a bad thing, just that the age gates ("Enter your date of birth") are utterly, utterly pointless... because anyone can get past them. That said, I suppose they're better than nothing: A lot of kids might fear getting in trouble with Mum and Dad, and so back away. -
Manny has evolved further: Cool thing: You can play Grim Fandango with the model right now! http://grimfandangodeluxe.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/hi-res-manny-is-here.html

You leave Joan Cusack alone!

Hi-res Manny is here (albeit in buggy alpha-form)

I find it weird that people are insulted by age checks...? They annoy me because they're utterly pointless and useless. It may as well be a box that says, "Are you old enough to view this site? Yes / No". -
Not comical, but interesting... gEO3lmVy-tU CyYK6zb4Xx0

You know there's a guide for that, right?

Merry Christmas to you, too!

While it's impossible for DF to lose money on this project, I'm sure they'd like to make a PROFIT. That means selling it to people who didn't back the game, and who may not even be aware of it. The normal rules of marketing then apply: Make a great first impression. The current story around its budget is not a first impression about the game. If marketing was just about sharing all the aborted artwork, and other design dead ends, then nobody would ever need marketing expertise. You may be in the tiny minority of people who when they see the first trailer for a movie that looks shit, doesn't then tell everyone who asks them that it, "looks shit", but for most people it's important to build positive word of mouth. One bad impression can kill the whole thing.

Welcome! And Merry Christmas!

Yikes. That's pretty nuts!

You're forgetting the basic tenet of marketing: Always make your product look appealing to its audience. Showing production art to people who have bought your product is one thing. Showing it to prospective buyers is something else: You'll want to show the GOOD stuff, not the stuff you threw out for being shite. Double Fine has PLENTY of good reasons for not wanting other members of the public's first impressions to be a raw and revealing look behind the scenes. First impressions are important.

I don't believe the DSR covers products that have been opened/used.
-
There's a lot of discussions on the DF forums, but the main crux of the argument is that some people are trying to argue they SHOULD share this stuff. That it's a GOOD thing for Kickstarter projects, and a GOOD thing for DF. In other words, blatant trollish bullshit.

Isn't it on GOG?
-
The difference is that the NPC's would act like real people. Your actions would have cause and effect. Therefore you would be making your decision based on repercussions to your character, not just because you're "playing paragon".
-
That's a step backwards, I guess, because there's real potential if they allow moral choices without making a points system out of it.
-
Calculated? We're talking about someone who's working on the game FOR FREE. Taking NO SALARY. And who's prepared to put 100K of his own money into the project. Yeah, he's an evil, calculating bastard all right.
-
Needless to say, I agree with your thoughts I really wish someone would do something about it!

It was even discussed here, too http://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/showthread.php?t=5210

So the first backers-only video has been leaked onto YouTube by this one kid... Is it wrong? Should he be stopped? Does anyone who hasn't backed the game actually care? Is it inevitable in this day and age?
