Joel Stein is an attention seeking tool, why does anyone care what he thinks? http://www.slate.com/content/slate/blogs/scocca/2010/07/06/joel_stein_s_immigrant_problem.html Science-fiction, that staple of escapism, uses technology to talk about issues that we face today. Harry Potter helps adults remember what it was like being a teenager. Fiction, even escapism, is important for adults to deal with the harsh realities of their lives. The fact that Stein thinks he's making a valid point in his article makes the whole thing pointless. Preston Surges answered this issue conclusively in Sullivan's Travels -- but then, that's just a movie, so it's not possible to learn anything from it. The Wire taught me more about the world we live in that anything else I can remember... but that's just TV, so it's not worthy, either, according to Stein. Stein is a poor writer that can't make a decent point (as the Slate article points out). There's probably some truth that the world might be a better place if adults were more thoughtful and educated, but I don't see any real evidence that adults are only consuming sugary fiction.

This Deserves To Be Read And We Have No-where To Put It: The Thread

Haha! It's funny because he used gayness to mean bad. Clever. -
Leisure Suit Larry in "gimme your money"
ThunderPeel2001 replied to elmuerte's topic in Video Gaming
As I say, I wouldn't call myself a fan of Al Lowe or Leisure Suit Larry. I'm amazed that even as a teenage boy it didn't hold any fascination for you, however. I've only ever played the first game, and that was only a few years ago, to finally see what the fuss was about. It was OK. -

I'm not a huge fan, by any means, but I backed it. I like seeing these guys making the stuff they WANT to make without publisher interference... I just hope they produce gold, so that Kickstarter remains a good idea. -
Actually, that's apparently what most people are saying they're NOT saying. Like the video I linked to. He makes the point that an unhappy ending is fine... if only it was GOOD.

Lol. I saw "epilogue" and assumed it was that. Oops.

It's brilliantly presented, as you said. Lovely! Good job with the voice over work, too. I barely recognise you with your caveman impression! (Was your voice deepened?) Note: I'm in work, so could only take a quick look. Seems very well made, though. Definitely deserves a play.

Oops. Missed this. That is indeed the plan, but like all fan projects it's completely dependent on the energy of the team involved. It's hard to keep things moving.

There's also this, which is official, but also kind of takes the piss out of the show... Fg1qikMstEA

I think the cupcake thing was pretty funny, and I'm heartened by the fact that people got together and did something about something they didn't like. Yes, it's only a game ending, but so what? It's better than just moaning about it on a game forum (no offence to anyone who complained about it here). Fuck it. They send them a 400 cupcakes. Big deal. I bet BioWare enjoyed them, and also got the message. It's not like they sent a 400 cat turds. From everything I've seen, the reasons for disliking the ME3 ending are perfectly valid. 6M0Cf864P7E

It's not very well mixed, and the sound quality makes my ears bleed.

It's April 1st... Do I trust Kingz or not?

Wasn't the MSX made by Microsoft? I always thought it was interesting that when MS returned to gaming they decided to use the "X" again. Also: Atari ST and Amiga 500  I'm a total Amiga nut. There's very little I don't know about that old machine. My path went: Datapoint 2200, Spectrum +3, Amiga 500, Amiga 1200, PC, PlayStation, GameBoy Color, XBOX 360, Nintendo DS XL, PS3.

I'll leave that to Ben. Many a time he's explained things to me that I thought weren't explained.

Yeah, I picked this up last week. It's BEAUTIFUL. I think it's something I'll have to read a few times to really appreciate, though. It's mostly a silent story, very much in the vein of Timepeice, but a little more serious.

This is fantastic news. This is really turning into something special

While it's true that they were "tap dancing" in the third season (Jack's tattoo episode leaps to mind), the writers responded by asking for a reduction in the number of episodes per season, and a definitive end date (which is unheard of for a hit show in the US). This was done so they could start figuring out what they were going to do, and when they were going to do it. They've never hidden the fact that they had NO idea in the first season. They've been very open and honest about it. The idea that they had it planned from the very beginning, or that they didn't have any plan at all, are equally ignorant. Here's the co-show runner Damon Lindelof talking (skip to 2.40): zRLjy2nL_4w

LOST was brilliant. I have my issues with it, but I cannot deny it utterly enthralled me for six seasons. Also, I enjoyed the ending. And I also enjoyed Battlestar Gallactica's ending.
