  1. Movie/TV recommendations

Yeah, I've just emailed whoever is the admin (Tabaco?) to see if I can block Luft somehow (I can't seem to find the feature). Edit: Hurrah! I found it!
  2. Movie/TV recommendations

And you're the loveliest chap of them all.
  3. Movie/TV recommendations

This from the guy who asked if I was deliberately trying to provoke HIM! Huh. I wrote my reply before you edited your post. I can't be bothered to change it now. You're a lovely chap, Twig.
  4. Wasteland 2

I wonder if Fargo simply went, "Oh fuck! I don't really know what to do... Ah, these guys have a lot of opinions. That'll do!"
  5. Movie/TV recommendations

    They're not morons. Full stop.
  6. Wasteland 2

I agree. I know we all donated, but I was expecting a game designed by Fargo and company, not a forum of people with no experience.

Twig, the very fact that the film so split regular cinema goers (and not due to it having any shocking content), is the best endorsement for a film I can think of. I don't think the people who didn't like it are automatically "morons", but the fact that it caused enough of a stir to warrant that notice is wonderful in my books. Also, I loved The Lord of the Rings films. Just wanted to add that.
  8. Brütal Legend on PC!

What exactly did he tweet to you, Tanu?
  9. Tomb Raider

Damn, that's a great review. I really have a sense of how they succeeded, and how they failed. They really wanted the player to care about her, and it seems they managed to do that, but then they undercut their aims shoving the camera behind her ass, or down her top. What a shame! The whole review is great, but these are a few of my favourite bits: "I don’t want to see the camera behind her backside as she crawls through tunnels. I want to look ahead of her, through the tunnel. I don’t need to see down the front of her shirt as she falls from high places or drowns. Worse than that, I don’t want to see the camera linger for a long while on Lara’s death scenes. I can relate to Lara Croft in this game enough that I want her to pick up a coat when she shivers or rips her shirt." "This reboot ofTomb Raider, with its experimental juxtapositions of different kinds of play, as well as its attempts to redefine Lara as a human being rather than a caricature of a sexual femininity, feels like the first step on a shaky path towards a better franchise. It feels shaky because Lara still retains much of the trappings of her old self; she still seems to be performing, except this time, her brand of femininity is more Virgin than Whore, and it could use a bit more nuance than that dichotomy affords." I can't believe they apparently did such a great job with the character, only to needlessly sexualize her. It's like when I started watching Buffy -- I've never found Sarah Michelle Gellar particularly attractive, but I sure fell in love with her character. Which is it say that I wanted her to be safe, and I didn't want her to be needlessly sexualized (which, thankfully, she wasn't). Maybe some sort of "camera and coat" patch could sort things out. If it did, I'd definitely want to play this.

Sorry, you're right, you did clarify that it wasn't what you meant to say. I still don't understand your POV regarding that notice, though.
  11. Brütal Legend on PC!

I play to do it, but I don't own it yet.
  12. Wasteland 2

I guess I'm in a minority, but I'm getting worried about just how much they're listening to the fans.
  13. Tomb Raider

Yes. It just seems that they're so far behind how they treat women, and it's such a male-dominated industry, that right now, they probably need to worker harder just to make a balance.
  14. Movie/TV recommendations

Agreed. I don't understand how you can call that notice "apologetic", or how it would generate negative feelings towards the artistic achievements of the film...?
  15. Movie/TV recommendations

Hmm. I don't know, it did get three nominations :-/
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

Loved THE MASTER! I actually found that both Hoffman's and Phoenix's characters stuck with me for a few days afterwards.
  17. Movie/TV recommendations

Lol. Have you seen DREDD? I really enjoyed that movie.
  18. Teleglitch

This should be called, "I MAED A G4M3 WITH AL1ENS IN IT!!!!!!11". Also, it should have cool soundtrack.
  19. Movie/TV recommendations

I'm not being sarcastic, but it's a film that could easily be mocked... if you really wanted to. I thought it was exactly as Max described. If this poster, placed in a UK art house cinema, doesn't make you want to see this film, then we're are very much opposites Speaking of good movies, I just saw SEARCHING FOR SUGARMAN. Check this movie out!
  20. Tomb Raider

If game designers were better at catering for a broader audience, they wouldn't need to pay more attention to their female characters, so it seems very fair to me!
  21. Movie/TV recommendations

I totally agree, Max. That film was brilliant, and the proto-dinosaur creature thing was massively important. Incredibly moving and profound.
  22. Life

    It's not both.
  23. Tomb Raider

Conan was seriously affected -- I bet it's not mentioned in a single review.

  25. Tomb Raider

Definitely! Or just games in general. Game developers don't know restraint.
