Leisure Suit Larry in "gimme your money"
ThunderPeel2001 replied to elmuerte's topic in Video Gaming
So this happened... http://mixnmojo.com/news/Is-Paul-Trowe-of-Replay-Sabotaging-Other-Kickstarters -
If that scene hadn't been included it would have caused a big question mark, as I said. Specifically, when , it could have pointed to . That scene closes off any other avenues of question It's a more visual way of giving information to the audience than just having . My work colleague had a great theory, too: . Question: Edit: Someone online has speculated it related to David's Lawrence of Arabia quote: "There's nothing in the desert, and no man needs nothing". Interesting. Also, who was David checking to see a response from in the beginning of the movie?

Hmmm. ¬¬ Not necessarily. The opening scene answers an important question for the audience. Without that scene there would be a big question mark hanging over the "DNA" results (if you catch me drift). On a different note: I personally don't give two hoots about the answers she's searching for. Nothing she can uncover could actually ever be totally satisfying to us, the audience. Is it just me? :-/

Fair enough. There's plenty of room for this to turn out to be a load of crap. It would be great if it was GTA without a predictable and uneven Houser script, though.

A few things to add to my Prometheus experience : 1. On second viewing I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. In fact, I never intended to watch it again, because I honestly felt I'd seen all the film had to offer, but when I did, I had a surprising experience. I had to admit that, when I put aside my expectations, it held my attention and entertained me. I actually quite enjoyed it. That said, it's still a flawed movie. It's just not as bad as I first thought it was. I agree with Mark Kermode's assertion that "it's not quite a four star movie, but it's better than a three star movie". 2. If you're going in expecting a scary movie/Alien movie, then you're going to be disappointed. This is closer to 2001 than Alien, in many ways (just not as good as either of them). 3. Ridley Scott has said a couple of things: Firstly, it doesn't take place on the same planet seen in Alien. Secondly, it will take two more films for them to reach the beginning on Alien. So yes, it looks like there will be sequels... which kind of makes me forgive them more, even though there's no reason for it.

Dave has more friends than Chris, clearly. For the record, I wouldn't have voted for Chris, just because I was asked to. Luckily I liked his the best, though.

At the end of the video he breaks down the costs in more detail. -

Not sure why this isn't huge? -
This guy got some plastic surgery so that he'd look more like MP1

I totally used a walkthrough the final batch of MGS1 missions. They were just too fiddly and required you to trial and error for hundreds of times before you managed to inch your way to the end. These were the video walkthroughs: http://www.trueachievements.com/viewcomment.aspx?commentid=438877#vch Astonishingly they're not just videos of some uber player showing off, they're deliberately designed to be solutions that most players can do.

Harman: I'm not sure if you know this, but FH is kind of designed so you read the appendix's after each chapter. That's how it was published as single issues, but they moved it all the back for the collected edition.

Well this isn't a game as such, but I just finished all the VR Missions from Metal Gear Solid 2 HD. All 511 of them! Total time taken: 50 hours. Yikes! (Although I think I may have left it on and did other things from time to time.) I'm pretty kick ass at MGS2 now! Most amount of work I've ever done for an achievement, I think. Just as well I enjoyed myself!

Two Guys from Andromeda (Space Quest) Reunion
ThunderPeel2001 replied to lobotomy42's topic in Video Gaming
Yeah, I don't think DF are too concerned about resolution. Originally it was just going to be a simple Flash game. Anyway, I just backed this. I've never even played a Space Quest game, but I want them to succeed! -

I'm shocked. No wait, I'm not.

At this point I just feel all the immature assholes making Video games are going to run the medium so far into the gutter that government regulations will become necessary. The gaming equivalent of the Hayes Code is just around the corner. And when I hear about videos like this, I don't want to argue with it. Slightly OT: I always used to laugh when I heard people describe the "graphic deaths" in Mortal Kombat. It was just tabloid fodder used to sell newspapers by demonising games. Those old 16-bit graphics were only slightly more detailed than Mario. The intensity and realism of the violence was so tame that I challenged anyone offended by their descriptions to watch one of the infamous "fatalities". The reaction to those things was always, "Is that it?!". They were mean-spirited, sure, but they were also laughably unrealisitic in their execution and ideas. As if game developers would put something as gross as those descriptions made them sound into a Video game. I mean, as if... Then I happened across this video (don't watch if you're feeling sensitive)

I find that's always the case with audiobooks. It's the main reason I don't listen to them.

Sooo... Prometheus. I don't want to taint the expectations of anyone who hasn't seen it yet by posting my opinion (you can read it here, if you really want to know -- spoilers abound). But I'm interesting in hearing everyone else's reaction.

There's no points just for it being SO open to interpretation. That alone is pointless. A wibble. Banana. Hatstand. If it evoked a strong emotional response, and everyone saw something different, cool! But everyone just seems to express confusion and vague disappointment. And in some cases (mine) bewilderment and frustration to boot. Just like the main character with no personality, the apparent inability to gauge what's socially acceptable, and predicatable "deep"/downer endings, pretentiousness is one of gaming's many negative cliches.
-
You know... You do this. Quite a lot

Bastion Steam code going... for free! PM if you'd like to see what "The Kid" is doing.

Yep, I agree. It's the sign of pretentiousness. Braid suffered from it, too. I LOVED Braid, though. I found Limbo massively overrated in terms of gameplay.

Ben wrote a short little "text adventure", modelled after those old books where you chose your own story, for the Idle Thumbs GDC "Journal of Games". Unfortunately that particular edition of the JoG never materialised. Ben's adventure, designed to be experienced on the floor of GDC, turning to the appropriate page in your copy of JoG, sat languishing in a computer folder... That is, until now! Http://www.johnnywalkerdesign.com/TextAdventure It's really just an experiment, not designed to be shown to everyone, but I pestered Ben and he agreed to let me post a link
