So the central theme was "be nice to indie developers"?

I found the experience to be almost identical. Certainly an improvement over XP. I'm baffled how people could hate Vista and love Windows 7. Oh well.
-
Depressing? How so? (I haven't seen.)

It's a colon. No need to cry about it. But seriously... it's fucking annoying! : : : : :

Seriously, how do you know it's real? (Of course, parents like that DO exist -- I've heard stories of electro-shock therapy in Mormon communities to "fix" gayness -- but this doesn't totally ring true to me.) Also, pretty horrible that that screenshot was yours, Patters. I thought it was something you'd found that was becoming a meme. I didn't realise it was just something that you witnessed first-hand. That makes it so much worse... and it's apparently not even special enough to become a meme.

You know, Nachimir has already created a thread about sexism in the game industry... I wish I could find it.

Not this thread again....

Hmmm. The problem with Vista was that manufacturers didn't get any new drivers ready in time for its release, despite ample warning from MS that it was coming. Tangent: A lot of people moan about how terrible Vista was, but sing the praises of Windows 7... without realizing that Windows 7 IS Vista, with a few tweaks. Consider the Windows versions: Windows Vista is to Windows 7 what Windows 95 was to Windows 98. A complete interface overhaul is fine by me. I've never been a fan of the START button myself.

Wow. Talk about two extremes. Your Dad has a point about a few things, although it's not like Dennis Ritchie was ignored by those in the know. He was recognized by a lot of people and organizations for his contributions. But FUCK ME, your uncle is the worst example of something I've witnessed in real life, I've ever heard. The attitude of "Apple is so far ahead of everyone else" is sickeningly ignorant. I hate it when I come across it. I'm intrigued by what's going to happen now that Jobs is gone, though. Without such a tyrant in control, will they still have such high standards for the stuff they produce? History points to them going straight into the gutter. Time will tell.

Yeah, I can see how it's not an essential upgrade for a company. Vista was a worthy upgrade, IMO (and unfairly maligned), but I can understand a company's reluctance. The only time a typical company upgrades their OS is when they get new machines.

Yep, those videos are FANTASTIC. I was so happy to have found someone who was actually trying to be helpful, rather than show off his madskillz, or that one crazy time he got the top score out of sheer fluke. It's impossible to recreate those videos. With the ones I found he tries several different ways of solving a level, figures out the easiest, and posts that. God knows how long it took him. Top guy. I got all the achievements for MGS3HD (although it's only half as many as the PS3 version has -- damn MS!) and now I'm just working through the dogtags in MGS2. As you say, it's pretty fun, because I now know the levels so well from all the Virtual Missions. I should be able to blast through it all, in theory I already hit a problem on EXTREME, though -- Olga could kill me with one hit. I had to find a pretty cheap way to beat her.

So I've followed in the footsteps of Brooker and found myself becoming a fan of Apple... I switched to an iPhone, loved it (despite its minor quirks) and now have plans to buy an iPad. Everyone in my office knows this, but here's a conversation I had today: Me [frustrated that his Apple mouse trackball has broken -- like it has with every single Apple mouse I've ever used]: Man, Apple can't make mice! Colleague [deadly serious]: Wow, you really hate Apple don't you? Saying something bad about Apple is like saying something bad against GW Bush: All of a sudden someone appears to tell you that you're a communist hell-bent on bringing down America.

So Windows 8 is already terrible? And here I was thinking we should wait until it's actually out before making any judgements about it. I love Windows 7, btw. I presume Windows 8 can't be THAT different.

You're talking about a series of blogposts over a period of about five years. The fact that three of them are about Apple is not worth commenting on. He also writes about TV, games, and other bits of pop culture. If he'd written three posts about GTA, or how crap he thought Microsoft was, nobody would bat an eyelid.

Rule of the Internet #247: You can't criticize Apple without someone criticizing you back.

I nearly withdrew my pledge because of all the spammy updates I was getting. I told them as such and they were very nice about it. Some folk informed me of the "Unsubscribe" button. Thank fuck. Then they go and follow me here.... Argh!!! -
It makes sense that only GoD games should have a sales requirement. It sounds like this guy is getting confused, or has done a both job explaining what he meant, or both.

Huh? They've still got 30 hours to go, don't they? http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/spaceventure/two-guys-spaceventure-by-the-creators-of-space-que Thanks for posting the Paul Trowe apology. -
Thor is a pretty good movie. You're wrong!

I worked on the artwork for Cache, and I pitched some artwork for Take Shelter (we didn't get it). I haven't seen either of them, but I've been told from reliable sources that they're both very good. Especially Cache.

Ooh! I found a rather excellent piece on Prometheus. For those on the fence, it might just sway you: http://cavalorn.live...com/584135.html I still think the film is flawed, but I'm happy that it has the ability to be deconstructed to such a deep level.
