  1. Feminist Frequency

Michael Moore isn't the best example of a well-known manipulative documentarian...? Who else is there? :-/ Neither of us know where the future is headed, so not sure how you can disagree with a worry. Anyways, I think we largely agree: It was very good apart from that minor hiccup. (Personally, the next time someone complains that games aren't sexist, I'd like to end the discussion by just sending them that video -- but it's subjective moments like that that totally undercut its otherwise very strong message.)
  2. Feminist Frequency

Come on, man. I'm not saying it's not regressive crap, but it is very unprofessional to throw in a term like that into the narrative voice of documentary. Even Michael Moore attempts to show rather than tell. The tone of the video is one of a newsreader or a thesis, and that's what makes the video worth watching: It's not just another talking head getting angry and ranting, it's very well researched and executed. If a newsreader or thesis said something was "regressive crap", it would seem very out of place, and that's exactly what it felt like to me. As Stephen Fry once put it: One turd spoils the whole bath. Also, I'm not making any assumptions, I just hope that side doesn't come out again (fingers crossed it won't -- I'm really looking forward to Episode #2).
  3. Iron Brigade

I was just thinking today how I still haven't played this. I have to give it a go.
  4. Feminist Frequency

Just watched the first episode. Loved it! My only qualm is when she says: "Most recently Double Dragon Neon in 2012 re-introduced new gamers to this repressive crap yet again, this time is full HD." It's the only time in the whole video when she came across as petulant and unprofessional. We all understand it's bad, but using terminology like that just undercuts her whole detached and professional approach. I hope the other videos don't slowly degenerate into stuff like that
  5. BioShock Infinite

I think this is an unacceptable attitude. Who cares about hats? I want you all to pre-order Bioshock Infinite so I can have a free copy of X-Com.
  6. Shadowrun Kickstarter

This looks a lot more interesting than Wasteland 2... And the UI looks approximately 1000 times better, too.
  7. The Walking Dead Season 2: Zalking Dead

I'd like someone to be assigned as Executive Producer, and for them to run the series like a TV show, so to stop all the weird and unnecessary inconsistencies.
  8. SimCity: The City Simulator

Cool, that's saved me £40. Thanks!
  9. Torment: Tides of Numenera

Wait, what? How can this be a spiritual successor to Planescape Torment without Avellone in charge? :-/
  10. SimCity: The City Simulator

You know that Francis is just a character he plays, right?
  11. Why can't I enjoy System Shock 2?

    Anyone still playing this?

"Blockbuster" just means financial success. It's got nothing to do with what critics think. (Although Wikipedia claims that Jaws redefined it to a genre too: The big budget action-adventure/thrilling movie that's a huge success.)
  13. Recently completed video games

In this comversation i think it just means (what they imagine will be) a hugely popular title, with a massive budget. (Film equivalent: Transformers.)
  14. Deus Ex 3

Ha, you little trickster, you. I guess my worst casting idea for Molly would be But seriously, maybe Ok, really
  15. Deus Ex 3

I don't know about Cruz, I don't think I've ever seen her in a film. Considering her eyes are going to be hidden throughout the movie, provided she can act (which I believe she can), and provided she never smiles as Molly -- maybe it could work...?
  16. Recently completed video games

Who what now? (They closed down in 2008, sadly.) A lot of folks in Hollywood have been saying that since the financial crisis it's been pretty much a AAA business model. They just want Transformers, and it's impossible to get smaller/mid-sized films made. Recently things seem to have been changing, but maybe that's just my impression. (And: Thank goodness for Fox Searchlight!)
  17. Deus Ex 3

If he's cast, I will literally not be watching that film. I'm not usually so precious about book/film adapts, but that's among the worst casting I can think of. Case is the prototypical cyberpunk/hacker -- he's in love with virtual reality, and uncomfortable in reality. He's more likely to have deep vein thrombosis than he is a muscle on his body, nevermind having a body that was sculpted from spending three hours a day with personal trainer. Liam Neeson would do a great job as Armitage -- but I doubt he'd agree to be cast to play guy from the book: Inscrutable, insular, unsettling, and just generally incapable of being personable on any level. He's most definitely not going to hunt you down and kill you for spoiling Batman (well, if he was, he wouldn't announce it first). You don't need Liam Neeson to play a part so simple.
  18. Brütal Legend on PC!

Yeah, there's this exchange: Doctor Fred: “Does he have any experience with electronics?” Bernard: ”Uh…I once saw him take three thousand volts directly through his head without batting an eye.” Doctor Fred: ”Didn’t he pass out?” Bernard:”Well, he was already passed out when it happened!” #googlefu Also, on a DOTT note: I watched Mel Brooks's "High Anxiety" recently, and Cloris Leachman's Nurse Diesel really really reminded me of Nurse Edna. I'm pretty sure it was an "homage".
  19. Deus Ex 3

    Wahlberg... Wahlberg... ? :(
  20. Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

Wow. Faith in humanity = Faith in humanity - 1000. Thanks, Armchair!
  21. Deus Ex 3

    What? They're making Neuromancer...???
  22. Life

Fuck me. Reality TV sucks! I feel like there should be a follow up expose!
  23. Wasteland 2

No, you've got the wrong end of the stick. I don't want them to be guided by ANYONE. Not me, not you, not them. I backed a game by the *developers* -- not the most vocal members of their forum. It's nothing to do with elitism, or issues with the fans, per se, just that the developers seem to be lacking a strong voice of their own, and only seem to be following what loud people are telling them to do. Even if I agreed with the loud members of their forum I'd still be very concerned for the quality of the game.
  24. Movie/TV recommendations

Just calm your beard man. I hear Wreck-It Ralph is close to Toy Story 3 in quality, so I really wanted to see it. Sadly I missed it. Brave was fun, but it sounds like Ralph was better. Still no idea why Purcell wasn't even MENTIONED by the two winners, though. Sounds very messed up.
