Putting emphasis on certain parts of your text isn't the sign of a bad writer, IMO. You can do it using italics, underlining, bold, or capital letters. The latter is just the ugliest. It's a common trait in graphics novels to help the reader understand a character's tone, for instance. Anyways, I digress.

Here's the logic: Toblix: I guess I'm just being too Phoenix Wright about it again. I considered showing the receipt since it definitely links him to the location, but the way he literally challenged me to prove he was there made me think it wasn't decisive enough. I probably shouldn't be looking for and expecting clear contradictions. Me: In this particular instance, Toblix, the game logic goes like this: The guy says he wasn't there, and demands proof he was. Phelps produces the receipt in order to challenge his story. If you think about it, there isn't really ever any conclusive proof. Even his fingerprints wouldn't prove that he was there when it happened. Even an eye-witness could be lying. You just have to leverage whatever evidence the game gives you that might contradict a suspect's version of events. As I say, there IS a logic. It helped me to use a walkthrough for a few missions so I could start to see how the developers wanted me to think.

The London 2012 Summer Olympics that are in London with Sponsors and will feature Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals
ThunderPeel2001 replied to Nachimir's topic in Idle Banter
Jesus. Most of the articles linked to here have nothing to do with the Olympics, but are either a) fabrication made up to sell newspapers (and YES, just like with the English football team, the newspapers like to complain -- ESPECIALLY about the Olympics) or Actions made by bodies not connected with the Olympics (I.e. Local councils). Let's not forgot the contradictory stances: Most people are concerned about the spending on the Olympics, but then, without skipping a breath, will complain about making concessions for sponsors who help subsidise costs. In other words, the Olympics are damned if the do, and damned if they don't. You don't get £1.1 billion for nothing. The sponsors are giving their money so they can trade on the Olympic brand. How the fuck anyone can take the side of a company trying to increase their profits, by pretending to be part of the Olympics without actually helping to pay for them, is beyond me. Those companies are the evil ones. British people like to complain. I'm glad Stewart Lee did a great job lampooning this attitude. -

It's also worth remembering that British newspapers like to COMPLAIN. About anything and everything. And ESPECIALLY the Olympics. Hosting the Olympics is an honour, and I'm proud that we're part of that history. It's nice that, for once, something like is actually taking place here, and not some country I've never visited. I just hope we don't fuck it up. -

I'm in London. I'm excited that we're having the Olympics here. Also I think the Olympics are a Good Thing. Sorry! -
As many problems as I have with this game, there IS a logic to the options you're given. I can't remember exactly how the game wants you to think, but I made a post about it in the LA Noire thread. (You know, the other one.) I found it pretty helpful once I understood how the game treated things.

I think I heard about this. Isn't Tim Burton directing or something?

You're welcome, world.

Great post, soggybagel I loved 1 vs 100 too

I think the appropriate word would be "Doh!".

Yikes. I can't say I'm a fan of the App Store. I certainly wouldn't consider it a high watermark for usability(!). Steam is pretty good, though.

Everyone seems to agree that XBL offers a vastly superior service to PSN? I'd rather pay and have a better service than get something crappy for free.

It's a cruddy way to set up a Kickstarter, but they're pretty clear about how it works. Anyways, I LOVED Defense Grid -- backed!

Ok, so I got bored and (very lazily) spliced together some of the opening frames of The Simpsons. I always wondered what that super-fast animation that speeds by looked like, and recently I picked it up on DVD finally letting me see, once and for all. As I say, it's VERY ugly (took me about 30 mins). I can't be bothered to clean it up further/draw the missing chunks, so here it is, for any Simpson fan who's ever wondered: EDIT: Lol! Last time I searched I couldn't find it, but now it came up straight away... Someone else already took more time and care than I did:

We can look through history, and there have indeed been civilizations that placed women on an equal, or higher, social footing than men.

Aww. I do enjoy their meta games.

Fuck me! That's public domain for you, I guess!

Yep, sorry, Orv. I guess I didn't read your entire message properly. I was more replying to the idea that such things aren't directly relevant, rather than your exact post. I think things like that are relevant, but they're also not relevant (as you say). It all depends on how you're using them, I guess.
-
Apparently I upset Orvidos with my last post. Orv, it wasn't directly aimed at you, just a response to the idea that history wasn't relevant. And the capitalization thing was just a way of stressing words... which I then mocked myself for. Didn't mean to patronize, sorry!

Linking to old racist posters is entirely relevant. There's a history there. That's why certain words have more weight. If I made up a phrase, say "Mega-Belgium", to describe people of a certain ethnic background, and then used it to their faces, do you think they'd be offended? It's the history of a given word that gives it power. It's typical of white people to think that racism doesn't exist anymore, so what's the Big Deal? When really racism is still very much alive. It's perhaps less institutionalized than it used to be, and it's learned to be hide itself in certain company, but every one of my friends of colour (for lack of a better phrase) over the years has related a story of modern day racism to me. From walking down the street and have someone point and say, "Look honey, a nigger!", to actual physical violence. Every single one.
