  1. The Great Giana Sister's Kickstarter.

I have no idea what you mean.
  2. Windows 8

*shakes head* Upgrade to Windows 7 at the very least. So much better than XP.
  3. Windows 8

Aaaaaaaaaaaanyway.... I've been using Windows 8 every day for a few weeks now. I was pretty scared, to be honest, because I loved Windows 7 so much and that Metro screen looked particularly daunting. I have to say, though, that I've totally gotten used to it. Everyone should upgrade, if you ask me. I just see the start screen as being an improved Start menu (as Peter Bright says in his Ars Technica review). I'm hardly ever in it. It zips out of sleep SUPER fast, too. Very happy with it, in all.
  4. The Great Giana Sister's Kickstarter.

Hmh! So I backed this on Kickstarter and I finally got to play it today... Beautiful looking. That was my first impression. I almost feel like it might be more fun to watch someone else play it. Then I decided it was definitely more fun to have someone else play it. Just could not get into it at all
  5. Plug your shit

Wow, I didn't even see that one on panel #7. Interesting interpretation of panel #6 btw.
  6. Jeff Goldblum

Bottle Rocket is really nowhere near as good as Rushmore and The Royal Tennenbaums -- I'm amazed someone could defend that, but attack The Life Aquatic...?
  7. Plug your shit

Very nice. I really like it... But... Sorry, I couldn't help myself... I added some words to the speech bubbles. Apologies! (I do really like it!)
  8. Jeff Goldblum

The Life Aquatic is awesome. There's more than four of us!
  9. Mass Effect

So I finally finished this on my PC... Lovely graphics. Great voice acting. Plus, I really enjoyed the twist at the end -- Very clever how they took what you thought you knew and turned it into something else. Loved that! Also, Femshep! What a revelation! It's amazing how much more interesting she made the same dialogue sound than Sheploo. ...but otherwise, what a chore! Exploring planets was so incredibly dull. As was doing the same dungeon over and over. Even with unique locations, in terms of level design, (for example The Citadel and other locations) they were unnecessarily huge, empty spaces that added nothing but frustration as you tried to remember where you needed to go. And the endless lift journeys! My idea of the worst kind of amateur sci-fi writer is someone who thinks the world they've created is just so... epic. And important. And deep. Mass Effect seemed to suffer from this attitude continuously. There was absolutely no humour in any of the characters. They were so goddamned earnest and overwrought about everything. The beginning was the worst; it just hits you over the head again and again with its mythology. The history of the races, the council, the Citadel. Yes, yes, BioWare, very clever, very detailed, but very DULL. KOTOR was an amazing game by comparison: There's a reason Star Wars caught people's imaginations. The world and its mythology, while not deep, is immediately compelling and interesting. Adding depth doesn't automatically equate to a better universe. For example, in the original SW movie: You don't need to know every little detail about the creatures you see in the Mos Eisley Cantina. If you did, it would quickly become very boring, With Mass Effect I felt I was being bludgeoned with pointless, uninteresting tales about alien races. It was like BioWare were going, "Hey everyone, look at all the history and detail we've put into this thing -- let me tell you about it. This creature is an Asari. They only have one sex (they're all sexy female, natch). The live for hundreds of years. They have three stages of life: Maiden, Matron, and Matriarch. (Otherwise known as "Whore/Sex Bomb", "Madonna/Mother", and "Too Old/Wise Woman -- but with big cleavage".) Matriarch's are considered super wise and intelligent. When Asari have sex, they "bond" with their partner and are able to mate with any species. They can also mate with each other, even though they're all kind-of female. See how interesting and clever we are to have created this race? See how "hard sci-fi" we are? What? Why do they all speak perfect English? Why do they look mostly humanoid? Um. Let me tell you about the Elcor... " And on and on and on. None of that is compelling. None of it is interesting. It's just "facts" (if you will) repeatedly pummeling your face. *sigh* Still, the wonderful twist at the end made me just about forgive what it put me though. Anyways, despite all that, I'm looking forward to ME2 to see if things improve any.
  10. A Song Of Ice And Fire

I've annoying stopped reading recently because I've been going back and re-checking everything. Anyhoo, this is cool:
  11. Life

I hate to cause alarm, but if she's going to school, won't her father be able "legally" abduct her? Or tell her school to let him know when she arrives? :-/
  12. Post your face!

This deserves to go into the Feminism thread, but what the hell, this is Idle Thumbs... http://www.themarysue.com/black-cat-cosplay-harassment/
  13. Jeff Goldblum

    Amazing!

  16. Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

It sounds exactly like someone as you'd hear them through water. Or the whale is just mocking us.

Why is that? If she has a passport, she's legally able to go...

    Ah, South Carolina.

  20. Confessions of an Internet Eater

I woke up this morning at 8.30, and having nothing to do, soon found myself just "looking a few things up on the Internet". It's now two hours later, and my plans of stopping, getting a shower, and going out to buy some much needed supplies have not come fruition. This happens a lot. When I'm away from the Internet, I feel good -- great even. I'm much more productive and feel more in control of my life. For example: Last year my Internet connection went down for two weeks. While it was mildly annoying at times, it was largely an enjoyable time for me. I used my local Internet cafe for catching up with things when I needed to, and as it turned out, half an hour a week was all that I needed. I vowed to myself that I would keep this new regime when the Internet came back on. That lasted about a day. I often go to bed late because I've become "stuck" searching, reading, posting things on the Internet. And I hate it! I hate waking up feeling like shit because I couldn't go to bed when I wanted to. I even attached a timer to my router so it automatically shuts off at a reasonable hour... But I slowly find "legitimate" times when I need the Internet late at night, and then it gets pushed back and back. I am the internet's bitch. I'm posting this here to try and help myself become more aware of my problem. Of this psychological addiction. To confront it in my self, acknowledge it, and learn more about it. Hopefully it's the First Step.

Wow, I thought I had too much time on my hands...

Damn. I wish I knew about this thread before I upgraded...! *bookmarked* Thanks for sharing that. I ended up with: Core i7 3770K ASUS P8Z77-V LE Plus 16GB DDR3 PC3-12800 1600Mhz RAM (Patriot) It was part of a package from Frys which came to roughly £350 ($560) inc tax. Grand Theft Auto IV runs smoothly now, and Mass Effect is actually bearable to play (if only the game itself was bearable to play).
  25. A Song Of Ice And Fire

As information is being revealed to me, I'm going back and checking things, and seeing what was true or not and so on. I'm also trying to make sure I completely understand where everyone is, and what they've done... And now I have a question for any Song of Ice and Fire mega-nerds! Can you explain this to me? Link: http://scifi.stackex...om/q/24948/4380 It just doesn't seem to make sense, and I'm slowly beginning to wonder if Martin is less into his maps than Tolkien...?
