  1. Disney buys Lucasfilm

Lol. What video was I watching where there was a character that boasted he killed bands as soon as he heard them in order to make sure that nobody else could ever get into them? Damn, what was that?

Hey, I find that ham and cheese go together perfectly!
  3. Blog advice

When you're feeling uninspired, receiving a complementary comment your blog can give you some energy. The flip side is that you can get some assholes posting on anything you've written. As for reading. Sometimes I like to be able to interact. Sometimes comments can add further insight. But there's nothing worse than reading something which you think is rather excellent, and then reading a comment from someone who didn't understand what was being said. (It is the internet, after all -- just look at YouTube!) Sometimes I feel comments should be banned altogether, and I contemplate installing a Chrome extension which hides all comments by default... I personally think people should exercise more control. Somewhere along the way it became considered "dishonest" or "uncool" or something to delete comments. I think that's total nonsense. I wish people would delete rude and obnoxious comments from their content. If someone has a reasonable critique, then fair enough, but if it's just "You suck! You totally didn't understand that film! You idiot!!!" then it's just adding another bit of shit to everyone's day. That's my 2c.

Hurrah. Glad you found an easy solution, Rodi.

    Is it December yet?
  6. Movie/TV recommendations

And if you like it this time, we'll probably hate you less. (In all seriousness, Ben got it spot on: As thrillers go, it's rather excellent. It does things very different for the time, too. For example: Usually in action movies, the score becomes uplifting when the protagonists are escaping from a threat -- In Terminator, it stays just as ominous and bleak. Choices like that make the movie stand out. Stan Winston's work is a joy to behold, too. What an incredible design! Beihn comes with a bit of ham, true, but as sci-fi action movies go, this is one of the most enjoyable. Sure, there are definitely cheesy moments, but if you're in the mood for a bit of cheese, it doesn't get much better. Also you get to watch and enjoy T2 afterwards!)

Because if you don't, none of us will like you anymore.

*grumble grumble* Yes, you're all right. Luckily I've only been very cool and "everything is OK" so far, even though I came dangerously close to sending a "what's going on?" text. But dammit, if I don't know by December, I'm asking her outright. I do feel a little messed around here! Thanks, guys!

T3 doesn't exist in my world, but Terminator 1 and 2 are excellent. There's no sloggage needed.
  10. Blog advice

Rodi, unless you feel like buying some webspace, downloading the installer from Wordpress.org, and then configuring it and installing it yourself. (Not to mention customizing it.) I'd suggest Blogger. It's easy to use, it requires no setup (other than creating a Google account), you won't have to deal with spam, and it's all completely free. I've had 500,000 hits on my Blogger blog, and it does the job just fine. I've been tempted to switch to WordPress, but that's mainly because it's trendy, and I'm not afraid of installing and customizing it. But I've never got around to it because Blogger does the job just fine. My clients always have to deal with lots of spam on their WordPress sites, even the tiny sites. On the other hand, I've had about two spam comments out of the 800 I've received since I started my blog.
  11. Xbox Gold Accounts

I've had a Gold account for years... Pretty sure you can't play multiplayer without it, right? Also, what do you mean about "horror stories"?
  12. Blog advice

Not so fast! As someone who has used both extensively, I would say that WordPress is nice, but it has problems: If you want your own domain, you've got to install it and maintain it on your own webserver (unless you want to pay stupid money to WordPress). Also WP blogs have REAL issues with spam. You can pay extra to buy a license for anti-spam software, but Blogger.com has all of the above built in, for FREE. (You can easily host a blog at your own domain using Blogger, and not have to worry about installing and maintaining anything. Plus, as it's Google, the anti-spam stuff is built right in.) The downsite is that Blogger is a little uglier to use, but they're both about equally customizable, if you know what you're doing. Bottom line: I wouldn't turn my nose up at Blogger.com, especially if you're doing something simple.
  13. Disney buys Lucasfilm

I'm just waiting for the reboot! Edit: Just a thought. I wonder if Tim Schafer could buy any IP now that Disney is holding the reigns?

Tycho actually said: "he just did more good with his life than everyone you've ever MET, combined." What does that mean? It simply means that more people are likely to benefit from this one action, than all the support and help that's given from all the teachers and doctors you've met, combined. Which isn't such a bold statement... That $4 billion could hire a LOT of teachers, for example. Even at the average rate in California, which has the highest average salary for teachers in the US, that's 72,700+ teachers over one year. Or for an entire 40 year career, that's 1810 teachers. In such a career, one single primary school teacher will teach 1,200 pupils. In a secondary school, that number increases to something like 3000. That means that money has the potential to effect between 2,100,000 and 5,400,000 lives. So it's not really such a big claim to say that this figure is more than all the doctors and teachers and civil servants and volunteers you've ever met could ever help in one lifetime, combined. And I'm not saying that this money is going directly towards teacher's salaries. I'm not saying that this money will definitely spent wisely. I'm not even saying that it wasn't a publicity stunt in order to try and sweeten any anti-trust objections. But fuck me, on the face of it, that's an insane sum of money, with the potential to help a LOT of people.
  15. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

Very true. Please accept my apologies! I just thought it was quite interesting.

Ever wondered what all those folks in NASA do?
  17. Life

Very wise, Mr Ben. I think I'll take your advice... Although it's very annoying as I don't feel this way very often. I have a feeling she'll send me a polite text at some point, though. The last one she initiated wished me Happy Halloween, for example. You know, it's actually already been a month of me being quite cool and only communicating at that level, now that I think about it. I guess that's why I felt it was time to broach the subject again. Hmmm!
  18. Disney buys Lucasfilm

What your think about someone's personality is completely irrelevant. It doesn't matter if he's a tyrant or bigoted. You've just put a load of words into Tychoo's mouth that weren't there.
  19. Disney buys Lucasfilm

    Wow, that's awesome!
  20. Life

Hey everybody! Come quick! I have women trouble! Woo! (When was the last time that happened?) Ok, so it's actually relationship trouble in the loosest possible sense: I'm not actually dating this girl, but I'm still kind of bent out of shape from what happened. This girl has had a crush on me since April 2010 (when she friended me on Facebook, and became very chatty). I was unsure about her, but I decided to try and get to know her anyway. After much back and forth, pen palling, she even sent me a valentine's, over the next years, in which I was still unsure about her, I finally got to meet her in September of this year. Much to my astonishment, I found that she got under my skin. There was something there after all! What's that you say? You hear wedding bells? Not so fast... Unfortunately the day we got to spend together was my last day in her state, and I left the next day to continue my trip around the US. We kept in touch, and I found myself still thinking about her. About a week later, I decided to broach the subject and let her know how I was feeling (interested with a chance of romance), but she had cooled right down. The cruel, cruel irony. I know what you must be thinking: "Wow, you must REALLY suck in bed!" But no! We didn't sleep together (oddly enough). We didn't do anything besides have a (very) brief snog. (It didn't help that I was ill with a headcold when we met.) When I told her how I felt, she just said she wasn't saying, "no", but she didn't know how she felt. There was a lot of pressure. Meeting me had been built up for too long (it's true that her entire family was super-keen to meet me). I was like, "Woah! I just like you. It's not that huge of a thing!" (but in a more polite way). But since then, she's been distant. We still keep in touch, but only in a largely "how was your day?" kind of way. It's very annoying.

    Shhh, you. Arnie hater.

THX1138: Great movie (and experimental as fuck, too). American Graffiti: Great movie, and one of the highest grossing films of all time. Star Wars: Great movie, and the second highest grossing movie of all time. Raiders of the Lost Ark: Great movie, and the 19th highest grossing movie of all time. Empire Strikes Back: Great movie, and the 12th highest grossing movie of all time. Everything else is pretty shit (except for Last Crusade and the beginning of Temple of Doom), but there's no way you can argue he didn't have talent, or that his successes were "accidental". He's made a LOT of critical and commercial successes.

The "book" is a short story where practically nothing happens. I know the first film has next to nothing linking it. I presume it's the same with the second. Whaaaaaaa???
  24. Half-Life 3

You just gave Rodi a heart-attack. I hope you're happy!
