  1. Thirty Flights of Loving

Who knows. It's a neat experiment in story-telling, but not much more than that.
  2. Mass Effect 3

My error was paying attention. It's like HEROES all over again.
  3. GOTY

    Er, what?
  4. Mass Effect 3

No, in ME it says that they wait in some sort of "low power" mode for 50,000 years in Dark Space (or something like that). I think it's the Citadel that allows them to come back from there, but Shepard shuts down their passage back, effectively trapping them there. It really is quite annoying how they change the rules and retcon everything between the games. That article that points out how Cerberus were actually a terrorist group responsible for killing a ton of humans, including Shapard's entire squad on Akuze, in the first game, are suddenly changed into a human-loving (racist) group in the second is right on the nose. I just don't understand why they clobbered me in the face with all their sci-fi gubbins in the first game if they were just going to change it. (Even the life cycle of the Asaris has been changed now.) This is why you don't explain everything. You should leave areas of doubt so that you can change them to suit your story. I mean what's the point of having all those Codex entries if you're only going to notice inconsistencies if you read them?
  5. GOTY

2012... A great year for games?
  6. Movie/TV recommendations

I wouldn't pick either of those films (I loved them both). How about something from Ingmar Bergman. He can be suitably depressing.
  7. Best Quote? (and Best Ladders?)

I can't wait for the inevitable "It's Skyrim with ladders!" quote.
  8. GOTY

    I fixed your post ;-P
  9. The Walking Dead

So which format would anyone recommend playing this on? PC, iPad, XBox, PS3? Thanks!
  10. GTA V

Wow, it's looks a lot closer to the R* paintings they do for every game. Very nice.
  11. GOTY

Well games have been around a long time. A lot longer than video games. As someone who's studied game theory, I know the accepted definition of a game involves objectives and rules. That's true from tic-tac-toe to chess to darts to Scrabble to Muchkin to Mass Effect. I think 30 Flights is trying to do something else Something different. Anyways, I suppose this is better suited to a "What is gam?" thread.
  12. BioShock Infinite

This is amazing and I love it.
  13. Doctor me up, Thumbs

    Score one for Dr Laxan!
  14. GOTY

I really don't get the mad love for Thirty Flights of Loving... it's not a game. It's just an experience. (A cool one, true.) Anyways, I don't want to respark that whole debate, I guess I'm just confused that it's referred to (by lots of people) as a game.
  15. Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

Ok, that's about as geeky as it gets, but I'd love to have some kind of uber Star Trek weekend where they recreated the sets and you played against another team in a different set. Like a fantasy camp weekend. I'm not even a Star Trek fan, but I think it would be cool.
  16. GOTY

I've heard good things about The Waking Dead, especially in regard to its revolutionary-ness. Makes me intrigued. Is the iPad version playable, or should I got for a Console/PC version if I were going to give it a shot?
  17. Doctor me up, Thumbs

So it's all sorted now, Salka? I had this weird thing this morning where I felt like utter shit for about 20 minutes. It was pretty severe, but my doctor has no idea what it could be. Other than that, I'm good Where's Dr. House when you need him?
  18. GOTY

We can still talk can't we?
  19. Doctor me up, Thumbs

Kind of interested if there's any developments on this front...
  20. Blog advice

Much better! Not totally in love with that shade of blue, but it looks pretty good!
  21. Blog advice

You can't turn a tanker around with a speed boat change, we need a holistic, cradle-to-grave approach. We'd better not let the grass grow too long on this one, I think this idea has legs, and once we get all your ducks in a row, we can align our objectives. You can't have your cake and eat it, make sure you're ready to step up to the plate and face the music. We wouldn't want to wrongside your demographic, so let's drill down from a birds-eye perspective and hit all the low-hanging fruit. Also, I feel an idea-shower coming on, let's touch base about that offline.
  22. GOTY

Hmm. Until people start listing games and remind me of what I've played, the only thing I can think of is Metal Gear Solid HD.
  23. Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

I don't know, it just didn't register on my radar as being as bleak as you're making out. I felt it was actually quite positive. Ealing Comedies or things like this are what I'd call closer to being black humour.
  24. Tweak my pooter

Hello all. Some of you seem rather excellent at recommending system upgrades, so I was wondering what you'd suggest for the following: PROC: Intel E6600 Core2Duo 2.40GHz RAM: 4GB (4x1GB) CorsairTwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800), 240 Pins, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12, EPP MOBO: Gigabyte 965P-DS3P HD: 2x 400 Gb Seagate ST3400620AS Barracuda 7200.10 (RAID 1) PSU: Antec True Power Trio 550W. I run three hard drives, two optical drives, and a old Audigy sound card. Plus misc USB devices. I'm pretty happy with my GFX card: Radeon HD 6870 And my case. I'd love a Core i7 Thanks for any help.
  25. Mass Effect 3

Man, I played the first 20 mins and I thought it was pretty nifty. But there are some irritating flaws in the Mass Effect universe. In the first game, the Reapers were stuck in an alternate universe, hiding and waiting for 50,000 years, and I shut off their way of getting back. How they're managing to escape from that universe has never been explained. Now at the beginning of ME3 Shepard is revealed to have been stripped of all status... Including her SPECTRE status. There's no explanation for this, although Internet searches reveal it's due to her destruction of a Batarian colony... In a DLC mission for ME2! There's not even a recap or anything! Why a SPECTRE would have their status revoked for something like that is beyond me. It's precisely the type of thing they were created for. And it was never really explained how everyone in the universe decided that Sovereign probably wasn't anything out of the ordinary. How could all of that debris have been ignored? It seems the more you pay attention to the universe in Mass Effect, the less it makes sense. Why did they bother going into such incredible detail if they were just going to change things? Really I can't think of a reason why someone couldn't just jump into ME3 and forget the first two games. The entire story of the previous two games is summed up in three lines of text at the beginning. Hmmm!
