I'm sure quite a few bods out there have played Sid Mier's Pirates now, indeed I've heard people rave about the original for years. When this new version got released I (finally) decided to take the plunge and see what the fuss was all about.......... Sure it looks nice, it plays reasonably well and it's almost fun! But am I the only who finds the whole the damn experience completely unchallenging? I've only ever lost one fight, I've got married, found my sister, become a high ranking official in all nations, found all the treasure, killed all the other pirates, done pretty much everything else... all on the second highest difficulty level.... ... and I'm still on my first game! Is it just me or does this game offer no challenge (other than the time-consuming difficulty of navigating the carribean in slow motion)? I'm far from a decent gamesplayer, surely others have noticed this gaping flaw?

Sid Mier's Pirates (Yes, I know it's 'old')

Sorry to earth this up again, but I'm still perplexed by those who loved this game. Am I missing something? I thought everyone liked their games HARD these days? -
Not true. Don't be afraid to buy PCI-Express motherboards if you want to use an Athlon64... http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/article/1746/ (Dated October 2004!) Of course what you REALLY want is an Athlon FX-55!

That's a really cool intro for The Warriors though, and I assume, like the film, it's an over-the-top look at gang warfare.

Yup, I see what you mean Still, it is interesting to see how after spending so much cash on machine we're very interested in how these games look (I'm guilty too).

How did a list of the 'best games for the PC' get bogged down with how good the graphics looked... Was Tim Schafer right?

Nebulus! Ouch, that game is still tough after all these years!

He should setup his own blog (www.notsogrumpygamer.com?). Oh wait! He's too busy... making computer games! When is Ron Gilbert going to do anything else?

Ooh! This is an interesting subject! One thing I'm positive of, Kurt was killed, he didn't kill himself. I think Tom Grant put it best himself in a recent post on his website. He sums it up perfectly: The more you read, the scarier it gets. This is the only "conspiracy" thing I believe in, and that's simply because it seems so obvious and there's absolutely no other explanation. Read on: http://www.justiceforkurt.com/ http://www.deathofanicon.com/ http://www.indefenceofkurtcobain.com/ http://www.deathofkurtcobain.com/main.html For the record I don't hate Courtney Love (I'd actually gone off her after the second time I saw her live and she did the exact same things... one big act!) and I'd never even heard of the "Murder Conspiracies" before Nick Broomfield's film was shown on TV. After I watched that documentary I concluded that Kurt most likely killed himself... but then for some odd reason (I was bored I guess) I look it up on the internet. The more I read the more obvious it became... it's scary! I recemmend everyone to at least read the arguments fully before making up their minds!

Hurrah for Sir Peter Molyneux!!!

Hi all, I'm trying to find a copy of RealMyst (the version of Myst that's actually real-time 3D) but every copy on eBay goes for like $40-$50. For a game that's so old it's ridiculous! Anyone know of any online retail stores that might have a more reasonable price? Or indeed, anywhere else I could find it? Thanks muchly! - TP

Does this link work? http://search.ebay.com/loom_Video-Games_W0QQcatrefZC2QQfmcZ1QQfromZR8QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQsacatZ1249

If it's an arcade game you're looking for you should try a MAME forum... I'm sure someone will spot it immediately!

Games no one knows (but are awesome or at least pretty good)

Yipe! That's terrible! Why was it taken off the market? It should have been one of the most noted games ever... it's unbelievable! -

Any games (or applications) that don't work are mostly the fault of said games or applications... ie. The programmers did something that Microsoft told them not to do as it was naughty, and they did it anyway. MS have pulled in the reigns to improve stability and security and have removed many little "hacks" that shouldn't have been there in the first place. (Ironically this included their version of Virtual PC -- they had to fix it after SP2!) Besides, most IT technicians are not fussed about you not being able to play obscure games!

I now own a Dreamcast. Game suggestions please!
ThunderPeel2001 replied to Jake's topic in Video Gaming
What you really want, no, NEED! is the special, super-duper version of Beneath A Steel Sky! With more cut-scenes and dialogue than the original PC or Amiga versions! You can eBay yourself a copy here if you're lucky! Of course this bastard is a total liar and it's just the downloadable PC version with Dreamcast ScummVM running. Rats! -

Yup, it's hard to know how to sell it, I think. Being able to "enter people's minds" is an idea that sounds like the game could be total shit. Of course we know Tim Schafer is a genius, but it's hard to sell the game and go... "but wait! it's really clever and good, honest!". Another angle might be the storyline aspect: Kid runs away from home, has special powers and decides to join a camp that will train him to become a "Pyschonaut" -- an astronaut for people's minds. (My favourite angle.) The last one is: "It's a fun platformer! Look! Wheeeeee!" (The gameplay itself doesn't look exactly earth-shatteringly original -- although I DO think it looks fun!) How to cram all this down 10-17 year-old's throats in the age of twitch-em-ups is another problem altogether! Eep! -
Let me start the ball rolling, although this one is a little harder Games that everyone hates but that I enjoy for some odd reason... Z2: Steel Soldiers, JFK Reloaded Lots of 16-bit ones (see sig).

Wow, yes! Toonstruck was brilliant! I really don't think people "got it". -
It's normal for the foreskin to be fused to the glans until puberty (physiologic phimosis) and as such there's no need to clean underneath the foreskin until the penis is fully retractable. Pathologic phimosis is uncommon in childhood and when it is there, poor hygiene does not seem to be a factor (for the above reasons).

Umm, they do. A lot of women use pure unscented soap to stop the same irritation, and guys can do the same! It's possible, if you're extremely unlucky, I guess. But consider this quote: You should talk to your doctor about it. It sounds like it might be causing you problems. It's good to know though: Excuse me if I'm afraid to click on that link

Hmm! I always thought it was just a Jewish thing, but apparently not! This thread is quite educational (well the link to wikipedia was anyway). Wierd thing is, I'm naturally circumcised! I kid ye not.
