  1. Consolevania am returned!

Thanks for your comments, Rodi! I'll keep watching the series. Well, he didn't say it was a bad game, so you might disagree there. I just found it a pleasure to play, though, re-skin/hyped or not. Now! I DO seem to remember something about Consolevania being made into a TV show? Is that right? Is all this (Consolvania Towers/The Sponsors) a reference to the failure of that? Or am I completely wrong?
  2. Consolevania am returned!

Yikes... this is the first episode of Consolevania I've ever seen... Freaky, is the word I'd use. I felt there were quite a few references I didn't get (who's the "dog" character? who was the "not evil" guy supposed to be? was the guy in the anorak a reference to anyone in particular?). The reviews themselves were good, as it's nice to hear someone talk somewhat in detail about games, and feel like you're on the same wavelength. Some of the comments that were made were really interesting, too. It's a helluva lot better than Gamesmaster and that other one with Violet Berlin... but of course, they were shite. Not quite sure where these guy's boundaries are the moment though, I kind of get the feeling that they could come out with some really ignorant borderline rascist/homophobic/sexist stuff for no reason... but that's the "thrill" of homemade internet videos, I guess. Will I end up liking them, or is part of the comedy laughing at them for their "outrageous"/unpredictable comments? Hmmm. "Gears of War isn't really that good" - Whaaa? I respectfully think he's talking out of his arse on this one. For me it was the first 360 game that made think "phew, there ARE decent games for this machine". Still, we can't all agree on everything. I might check out Overlord based on his review, though.
  3. After years of stoic Nintendoism...

Ooh! Interesting! I invested in a PS2 recently because of the dire backwards compatibility on my 360. It seems llike I'm supposed to buy Shadow of the Colossus! Cool. So far I've picked up: Some BUZZ game (one of the controllers doesn't work, though... I've already taken it back once.) Dirge of Cerebus (I liked FF7) Final Fantasy X and XII (see above) Street Fighter Alpha Antology Kingdom Hearts (with hopefully number II on the way) Metal Gear Solid 2 Plus my gf picked up Singstar. So far I've played almost none of them.... *sigh*
  4. VOTE FOR THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME

Lol! To be fair, you've caned GH2... you can't blame them for "only" having 74 songs I've been playing it this weekend, and man... it still rocks! I managed to complete all the songs on easy with five stars. I've already completed Medium, but Hard nearly killed me with "Woman", so I'm going back to practise some more on Medium! Damn good game... Shame that Harmonix aren't involved in Guitar Hero III... Seems kind of messed up considering they're the ones who made GH and GH2. Still, their ROCK BAND looks like it could seriously kick some butt!
  5. Bitmap brothers forever

Somebody.... please move this thread into the gaming forum!!! Hmmm... I hope they add a 2-player league/cup option. The original game DID have a management mode, if you remember, but I'm not sure if that's what you're talking about?
  6. Bitmap brothers forever

The screenshots are out: It's a literal emulation of the Amiga 500 version. Good in some ways, but I wish they'd added something. At least we'll know that the playability will be good! http://www.consolemonster.com/mediaview.php?id=0000000562 PS - PLEASE move this thread!!!
  7. VOTE FOR THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME

The idea of the "best game" is ridiculous, the same way you can't really say "the best film" of all time. Super Mario World still amazes me at how well it was designed, Knights of the Old Republic dazzles me with its story and characters and Guitar Hero II floors me with it's sheer enjoyability... Which is the best? (Guitar Hero II...)
  8. Stuck in Psychonauts: Waterloo World

The funniest moment in the game (or at least one that really ticked me) was when Raz "captures" the enemy's base by walking on it. His little victory dance (which was completely unexpected) cracked me up! *sigh* I wish I was stuck in Psychonauts... what a brilliant game.
  9. I can't wait for level 17...

It's hard to believe that the people who brought us Alien Breed, Body Blows and Superfrog wanted us to cry.....?
  10. SingStar

I hate Singstar. I believe I can sing, it tells me differently.
  11. Prince of Persia Classic

I've never actually heard of it... I might hunt it down and see if it runs of Vista
  12. Prince of Persia Classic

D/Gen rocks! I never completed it though... As for Level 17, you'll notice that I said I'd completed the whole game! (Doh!)
  13. Prince of Persia Classic

Yes! I completed the whole thing last night! I finally beat the bastards on level 5! I got better at the fights, although to be honest it still feels very bloody random. I think the trick is, as Fayk says, to keep pressing up (note that you have to let go and press up again once you've blocked an attack), and play it defensive. Saying that, I also had a lot of success with just attacking two or three times in a row on certain baddies. Stupidly, even though it took me an hour and half to get to the princess, she was still safe and sound... Plus, the more I see those annoying cut-scenes, the more they grate. The original's simplicity are really much better. I thought it was me, but I showed them both to my girlfriend (without any prompting), and she preferred the old ones, too. Ah, well. It's still great fun. I'm looking forward to bringing my times down.
  14. PRINCE OF PERSIA Script Review

I doubt it's co-written... the credit was probably for characters and/or storyline.
  15. Prince of Persia Classic

Yes! I've managed to do the switch... but I'm not sure how, yet. Something to do with moving closer and parrying, for sure. Thanks Fayk, my job (and preparing for Glastonbury) have meant I've not been able to give this thing some decent time... and I really do want to master the fights. I guess it will take some time until someone figures out how they work. I'm sure there's some gametester somewhere at Gameloft who can easily beat all the baddies, so it must be possible without breaking too much of a sweat. I'm currently stuck on Level 5, the third baddie before the end, and I'm guessing that Level 6 isn't exactly going to be much fun, either... doh!
  16. Prince of Persia Classic

The original was only 600K... plus PoPC only just got released... *sob* I'm sure there were rumours of MS upping the download limit... couldn't they have waited a week? *sigh* Maybe in a patched update or something? I hope they do a version of Prince of Persia 2.... but make it easier! That game was impossible! I have to say, that despite knowing all the levels off by heart, I'm having real difficulty completing PoPC because of the hardness of the fights. I'm sure I must be doing something wrong, and it's a shame that they removed the "switch around" thing you could do in the original (often allowing you to force baddies into the jaws of death or off ledges). Bah! Anyone else having difficulties? This is the original (sorry, I'm a sad geek, I know):

  18. Prince of Persia Classic

Ok, quick impressions: It's good, not bad at all. It's fun playing those old levels again. The movement is more fluid (you don't have to be facing the right way to do something anymore) and the gameplay more forgiving (the jumps are a lot easier). The graphics are very nice and the whole thing is pretty damned good fun. Excellent job, really. The downers: The sound effects aren't as good or satisfying as the original game, oddly. The animation isn't as good, either (mostly to do with the changes being made to the fluidity of the game - so that's forgivable), especially the deaths... They look pretty silly now. "Ooh, I've fallen. Ooh, I'm standing for fraction of a second. Ooh, I've collapsed and died." The 'jaws of death' (as I've just decided to call them) aren't as terrifying either. They don't even look metal, and the sound they make is a rather pathetic "swish". The animations featuring the Princess (who is now in the most ridiculous bustier) aren't as subtle as the original - something to do with the timing, I think. Nothing major, though; it's only someone who worshiped the original like me would notice. All these problems are aesthetic, though. It's a shame that Mechner couldn't have just come in at the end and tweaked it slightly. (Ahhh... fanboy dreams ) One thing I would have really loved would have been the original as an unlockable feature... I'm hoping it might appear once I've completed the game in some impossible time..... but I'm doubting it.
  19. Prince of Persia Classic

Yeah, but the cheats reduced the time limit to 15 minutes! I LOVE this game! I'm going to download it ASAP!! I hope it's as much fun as the original! (Sorry for the excessive '!'s, I'm very excitied! )

Have you seen the new XBLA Prince of Persia? It's worth checking out! http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/13493/Original-Prince-of-Persia-Coming-to-Xbox-Live-Arcade/
  21. Macs Suck

It's called irony.Anyways, it sums up the frustration of PCs users (like me) who are, quite frankly, patronised by Mac owners who (usually) know less about computers and behave like: "Awww, doesn't he know Macs are better? Poor thing." The conversations I've had...
  22. Church vs Resistance: Fall of Man

Didn't The Getaway reproduce the whole of London down to the tiniest detail? (I've not played it, so if I'm wrong don't kill me.)
  23. Guilty pleasures

It's weird, isn't it? I remember when I bought my Amiga. I was SO excited to be moving up from a Spectrum +3, but I remember thinking, "Yeah, the graphics are 100 million times better, but the games aren't as fun". It was something I could have never said out loud (I was SO pleased with getting an Amiga), but I remember thinking it. But after a while I got used to my Amiga and when I went back to the Spectrum via an emulator, the games didn't seem as fun anymore. My theory is that patiently waiting 15 minutes for a Spectrum game to load made you give it a lot more of a chance before giving up on it!

The true sequel to Speedball looked utter crap from the screengrabs that were posted on their site. It was also originally announced about 7 years ago. I hope this isn't the same sequel, and I hope they get Eric Matthews, and the others, back for it, this time. The XBLA version of Speedball 2 is the thing to look out for, though. I hope they don't fuck it up like they did the PlayStation version... Here's my want/don't want list for the XBLA version: - 2D graphics are probably good enough, but if they insist on 3D, keep them clean, fast, smooth. The PS version used 3D graphics, but all it did was slow everything down and make it unclear what was going on. - If they're going 3D, why not use some rag-doll physics to increase the brutality when people get tackled. As long it still feels weighty. - DON'T add a shitload of interactive things on the pitch, the ones that were there worked. More != better. - DON'T make the pitch 300% bigger, just because you can. - DO make the crowd cheering intense. It was always great when you scored and the crowd really went wild. Pitch invasions at the end of the match could be cool, too. - DO work on making great AI. Last and not least: - DON'T make it all colourful... The sleek greys of the Amiga version still look the best after all these years. The orange and purples only ruined the cool, steely, cyber-punk atmosphere of the original. Make it look cool! I can't wait for this and the new Prince of Persia, which looks great! EDIT: Why is this in the feedback forum?
  25. Macs Suck

I work with Macs all day... this is the best thing written about PCs and Macs. Ever. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/story/0,,2006031,00.html
