It's weird, I wouldn't consider myself a hardcore gamer by any means, but I never found Psychonauts too hard, even in the Meat Circus (although it was the most difficult). I don't recall ever dying over and over (except in the Meat Circus), especially on the Velvetopia level... Wonder what I did differently? I'm NOT a "good" gamer. One thing that could have been improved was the collecting of the arrow heads. It took forever to get enough just to buy something which was pretty much essential if you wanted to enjoy the game: The magnet thing that draws everything closer to you.

i just spunked £1500 up the wall on a new TV and 360 - what next?

My top three are: Guitar Hero II - Being a geek has never been so much fun Gear of War - Just plain, simple, well-crafted fun Bioshock - Scary and extremely well made -
Well I'm glad to hear you weren't just uninterested in what I was writing about (which is how I took it when you failed to reply)! Funnily enough the same idea drifted through my head again the other day and I still feel pretty strongly about it. I suppose it would be fun to get some ideas down on paper and make it more "real" than theoretical. Here are my "secrets" for all to see: And here's the original post which started our conversation in the first place: Peter Molyneux and 'Emotional' Gaming

Yep indeedy. I had some thoughts myself on how to make it practical, but they never got further than an email. What's your plan WV?
-
Yep. It's a bit weird. I can't help but wonder if they went: #1 "What the fuck have we created? is this too far, even for us? Jesus!" #2 "Shall we change it?" #1 "It's finished now, why don't we just pretend it was 'cancelled' by our sponsor"? #2 "Brilliant! That way people will see it, but only if they really want to and it ties in nicely with this season's 'story'." #1 "Yeah, and no-one can complain it's too weird as it's not a 'proper' episode!"

1. This is fucked up. Maybe they were genuinely not sure about it? It's also oddly compelling in places, though! 2. Space Giraffe is a remake of TEMPEST, not DEFENDER, which is a totally different game. Bit of a big mistake? Edit: Just finished watching it and it totally cracked me up. Brilliant!

I wonder if the publicity attached to this episode being "banned" will make it even more downloaded? What's interesting is that the links to the Pirate Bay torrent are now broken (Pirate Bay says it's been removed). Weird! Who asked them to remove it?

There's no Bioshock spoilers is there? I'm about halfway through the game at the moment, so I don't need a review to tell me whether to buy it/play it or not - especially if it's gonna talk about anything that I've not seen yet. I'm new to Consolevania (the guys are obviously nuts), but they seem like they actually care about the games they play, so I'm guessing despite their "off-the-wallness" that they're respectful to the games they like?

Lol! I can't wait to see this!

So, finally, there's a game that I'm actually looking forward to playing... question is: Should I play it on my super-kickass, 8800GTS powered, WEI 5.3 PC or my "achievement" enabled 360? I thinking PC at the moment (as you tend to feel more "in control" with a mouse and kb, IMO), but does anyone know any reason why the 360 might be the one to go for? I know it's not out yet.

Bioshock: PC or 360? [NO SPOILERS!]
ThunderPeel2001 replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Video Gaming
It seems like an odd release. I went to GAME a few days before release and no-one bothered to tell me about the "Collector's Edition with figurine" thing. You can't buy the CE anywhere online (except eBay). There wasn't any mention of it on the Bioshock website and major shops like Virgin didn't have ANY CE's at all - apparently. Not even on pre-orders. Very, very weird way to do things. Plus my local virgin didn't even stock ONE copy of Bioshock for the PC on release day. What the hell were they thinking? Even four copies would do a small shop like that. Weird. Finally, when I tried to take a picture of the Big Daddy in GAME on Oxford St, I was politely asked to stop by the member of staff who seemed positioned as its guardian. ("They're" being very protective, apparently.) I go to Virgin on release day and they got the same massive Big Daddy, but with no-one around to stop you taking photos... I don't get it. -
Bioshock: PC or 360? [NO SPOILERS!]

Also, for those still concerned about Bioshock's securom protection making it hard/impossible to play, Levine has announced that it will eventually be removed (meaning there won't any issues in the future for those who want to play it). Shack news speculate (hopefully correctly) once retail sales aren't majorly important (ie. its passed its popularity) that the protection will be removed. http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/48641 I seriously doubt that System Shock 2 was affected by piracy (surely word of mouth from lots of people - some of whom have bought it - is better than a smaller percentage of people raving about your product?), but I guess they're taking a hard line this time. None of this solves my technical problems, however -

 Arrghhh! Firstly, some fuckwit at the Oxford St. GAME tells me they had some of the limited editions (with figurine) in stock (I didn't even know about these "limited editions" until today - bah!), so I traipse there only to find out they didn't. At all, (No apology, naturally). I pick up the tinned edition. When I do get my copy of Bioshock installed, it won't load - not problems with Securom (as it turns out), but problems with DirectX 10 it seems. Thankfully the Games profiler in Vista has a "play in DX 9" option - which thankfully allow me to play it... Yay... not great, but yay - at least I'm playing it. Then it only goes and crashes anyway when I reach the Medical Centre anyway. Arse!!! Like I said, none of these issues are to do with installing/activation/initial running, so they're nothing to do with the Securom protection... but I don't know what they ARE to do with. I hope they get them sorted. I'm not running any sort of anti-virus software or anything. I don't know what's causing it. Also, one final bit of annoyance: Despite claims everywhere that this game was developed heavily with NVidia in mind, blah blah blah, when you boot up it tells you that the latest official NVidia drivers have "known issues"... so please upgrade to the latest BETA drivers instead. Is this really how the game is meant to be played, NVidia?? The game, or what I've been able to experience, is rocking. (Ken Levine loves the idea of being knocked out and guided by a stranger by radio, doesn't he?) It feels like a snazzier, jazzier System Shock 2. I hope it does well, because despite these technical annoyances (and FUCK are they annoying!) it's still looking like a brilliant game. -
I appreciate the mention of FF, but I still think it looks damned good. There's only one real super-natural thing in it, and that's the floaty dude, everything else is technology based (and not much different than the other games). I know it feels a little different, but things have to keep moving forward and I'm glad it looks a little different rather than the same as ever. The video looked good to me!

Do you know that I don't care?

I liked it better when there was just one easy answer Ah well, I'll still go for the PC version, I think. -
Did you know that Bill Gates will not send you $5 for forwarding an email to your friends?

Bioshock: PC or 360? [NO SPOILERS!]
ThunderPeel2001 replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Video Gaming
Excellent stuff! Thanks for the rational arguments, I'm definitely going for the PC version now. I just hope that my local Virgin has it in stock when I go to buy it! -
I hope Mojo haven't killed this project before it's begun .
-
Hilarious idea! Very clever, but they could have made more of the "wacky protester" character, giving him something to say like: "We all evolved from apes!" or "It's the woman's choice" or "There's nothing wrong with nudity" (followed by evil cackles and sinister music). Still, it's pretty funny.

ME AND MOLYNEUX: OUR RELATIONSHIP IMMORTALISED IN THE LATEST DEVELOP MAG
ThunderPeel2001 replied to Salka's topic in Idle Banter
So... when are you going to "go back on what you've said" is the manner which is "so annoying on this forum"? I have no issues with you changing your mind, but seriously, what are your opinions of the man you used to insist on calling a "twat" (for no reason I could ever actually comprehend) now that you've met him? You seem to have had a change of heart, which is nice. -
Sounds like it might be fun...! I always like the idea of racing around somewhere real, too. Is there a PC demo anywhere?

Maybe Zelda just isn't for me...
