  1. Every Extend Extra

    Sounds intriguing!
  2. Space Giraffe

Something amazing has happened.... I had the "shift" and now I can truly play and enjoy Space Giraffe for what it is: Absolute genius! Jeff Minter is a genius! Not sure if it's because I chumped up the hefty... wait for it... £3.50 (!) for the full version of the game and so didn't have to play the tutorial (which I found confusing, annoying and repetitive) or whether it was "just my time". Either way, I'm finding the full game to be miles more fun. Challenging but fair. (I now almost never die without seeing what killed me first.) The music totally rocks, too! It's also oddly relaxing playing this game... no idea how that can possibly be given how chaotic it looks... but it is! I love it! I highly recommend it!

    Thirded
  4. Half Life 2: Episode 2

Yep. I'm playing HL2 in Easy right now... It's still stressful for a "casual" gamer like me!
  5. Half-Life 2: Orange Box Giveaway Extravaganza!

Yep, I completely agree with that statement, actually Although pirating stuff IS illegal... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAr7zKxjCDY
  6. Brutal Legend magazine scans

BRUTALLEGEND.COM points to BRUTALLEGENDS.COM Legends for online?
  7. Brutal Legend magazine scans

Seemed like a good trailer to me. I liked it! The only bad bit was the design of the monster with a deep voice... He could have look more like Rock N' Roll Satan, if you ask me. Otherwise, looks cool!
  8. Half Life 2: Episode 2

What mode do HL fans usually play HL in? (Out of serious interest.)
  9. The Secret Mystery Game

Wow, I can't believe that either. I found it extremely dull and only played a few levels before deleting it. toblix, I think you summed up what I was trying to say perfectly: Lemmings totally rocked because you developed strategies and solved puzzles. With a poor "trial and error" based game, you simply do things wrong until the game tells you you got them right, and move on... to do the same thing again.
  10. Half-Life 2: Orange Box Giveaway Extravaganza!

That's cool! We're (you're) leading the way in altruistic gaming
  11. Double Fine

That weird "scrum" design thing seems to say they complete the entire game every few months...?
  12. The Secret Mystery Game

I wasn't saying that easy games are worthless, I am certainly no "hRdCrE GMr" - I generally don't have the time or patience to become good at really difficult games. Just the way you phrased the reason why N might fit in to the "trial and error" genre was probably the way most games are described. I don't recall being overly challenged in terms of dying over and over in any Final Fantasy game, so I suppose that could be considered "easy", but I still thoroughly enjoy them. A puzzle game like N (eg. Lemmings) would probably be considered shit (ie. unchallenging, and therefore non-addictive) if you could complete all of its 100 levels on the first go. I do think most games that rely on trial and error would be generally considered crap (Dragon's Lair, anyone?). In fact, it should really be considered a Gaming Sin, along with "leaps of faith" (platform games that feature blind leaps that may or may not result in your death), if you ask me. Did no-one try the game I linked to? It's eerily similar to Limbo...? (Well, it features silhouettes, cogs and spin saws.)
  13. The Secret Mystery Game

That's not really the criteria. Any game where you could complete all the levels, or many of the levels on the first go would just be shit. Here's something which looks very similar to Limbo... but which you can actually play. Hmm.
  14. Brutal Legend magazine scans

Yay! Looks great! No mention of Jack Black in the article, though... maybe he's no longer/never was involved? Edit: Looks like in my bid not to spoil too much for myself, I missed the bit on the last page where it says that Jack Black is involved... along with Lemmy from Motorhead. Lol!
  15. Double Fine

Wormsie is just being unnecessarily obnoxious. Yes, we get it, Wormsie, you don't like Jack Black. Now, when are they going to make an official announcement? Also, why is that blogger such an ass??? Stop playing with the pitch you twat! No, I don't give a flying fuck which record you first bought. Take those hairy knuckles and hook up that record to your computer and reverse it there! Edit: Ok, at the very end it just seems to say "Brutal Legends" over and over. I like the way they're building up interest in the game! Hopefully they've been working on it in secret for years and they're about to do an Apple and release it next week. How did you find that link, Nappi? Well spotted!
  16. Half-Life 2: Orange Box Giveaway Extravaganza!

Thanks to Banjoses for giving me his versions of HL2 and Ep1
  17. Half-Life 2: Orange Box Giveaway Extravaganza!

Yeah, it'd be cool to be part of the Idle Thumbs group, too. Is it invite only?
  18. Half-Life 2: Orange Box Giveaway Extravaganza!

    Cool! I don't have either!
  19. Experience112

Sounds like a brilliant idea! Sort of like playing SHODAN in System Shock. This is really "second person" story telling - Interesting!
  20. Stuck in Psychonauts: Waterloo World

Just a note to anyone suffering at the Meat Circus: Use a joypad... it's a million times easier!
  21. Gaming semantics

Ok, look. There's more to a FPS than its perspective. There are other games that are played in a first person perspective where you get to shoot people, but they're not called FPSs. Oblivion can be played first person, and I can shoot and attack people in it. Does that mean it's a FPS? Of course not, it would be silly. That's because there's more to the FPS genre than just its perspective. In fact, "first person shooter" is just a name that someone came up with to describe a certain style of gameplay (which then became widely used). If the term "shooter" had become the term for Quake style games instead of FPS, then we wouldn't be having this discussion. That's because perspective is just ONE element (of many) that makes up the FPS genre's style, and it just happens to be in the genre's title.
  22. The Secret Mystery Game

Definitely. It reminds me of Dragon's Lair or something. Superb presentation, no doubt, but I think they might need to expand their ideas... Where's Tim Schafer when you need him? Really? I can't think of any awesome games that are wholly based on trial and error. What am I forgetting?
  23. Gaming semantics

I think Rodi summed it up perfectly (to me, at least). I understand that the whole thing is technically wrong, but there's aspects of Gears that feel more like a FPS, and they're the aspects that would fall under the modified FPS genre, I think (if it does continue). I'm sure there's a lot of examples of things they are technically incorrect... I just don't know them! I think B-movies was a good example because it technically meant the first movie before the main feature on a double-bill. Other examples of technically wrong words that I can think of are; To "hoover" something up with a vacuum cleaner. Hoover was a brand, like Sony, not a verb. Same goes for "xeroxing" something when you mean photocopy. They're not as good as the B-movie example, but it's still commonly accepted distortions in the language. I guess it's hard to put into words exactly what it is that makes some people want to describe it as an FPS, but I understand the way in which Gears played felt to me a lot like an FPS. Maybe somebody can help define what makes a FPS other than its perspective.
  24. The Secret Mystery Game

Really? I don't know, if you watch the video it's just a pretty simplistic run/jump game with no baddies and no interaction (could be different later in the game, though). The puzzles that are shown look weak to me and seem to rely on trial and error. I know what you mean, it LOOKS fantastic, I just wonder if the gameplay is actually there? What happened to that game where you were a piece of paper that escaped from the artist's pad? That look interesting, too.
  25. Gaming semantics

I understand you, but that's not what I was talking about. Because nobody can decide to change language. It just happens.
