I think you're still likely to really enjoy yourself, but if you're unsure you could always hand back for Rock Band?
-
That's really cool! Yay!
-
Guitar Hero is indeed great. However the general consensus seems to be that II is better than III. Of course, musically speaking, III does rock mightily, so I'm sure it's still fun. There's a great interview with one of the co-founders of Harmonix at Playboy: http://www.playboy.com/magazine/features/video-game-blowout/video-game-blowout5.html He says that, unlike with the guitar in Guitar Hero, with Rock Band, if you're playing the drums on Expert, you're pretty much playing the drums life in real life. Pretty damned cool!
-
Geez, it's FUN. It's supposed to be silly and enjoyable. It's not supposed to be shocking! I can't believe what I'm reading here....?
-
The "gore" is just silly, over-the-top fun. I don't understand how anyone could see it as anything else?
-
Congrats! Can't wait to play it here in the UK, even if it sounds like Neversoft have removed any charm or style from the series
-
Ugh. It seems like Neversoft kind of missed the point. What's next? Play the right note to make Mario jump at the right time? Seriously, these games are all about improving at something which is just plain FUN, it didn't need to be "gamified". Of course, I'll pick it up for the songs and the fact that I've already got the guitar, but I sincerely wish Harmonix/Red Octane hadn't fallen out. Is there a new GH3 guitar for the 360, BTW? Also, with no less than three instruments in Rock Band, what's the retail price going to be like Will we be able to use existing guitars and buy a cheaper version?
-
Precisely. Something different but all part of the same universe
-
Actually... I've just thought of a way that Psychonauts might get a sequel (a sequel that was indicated to and the end of the game, no less): They could totally change the game, but keep it in the same universe. They wouldn't have anything to lose: The first game has got good credibility, especially for the characters and the game world, and if someone hasn't heard of it, it wouldn't be detrimental to the game either. A new game, that offers totally different gameplay, could easily even have a totally different name. Same characters, a sequel for the fans, but different enough to be potentially financial successful! Hmmm. I better buy that bacon hat, just in case.

How to best explain Brutal Legend to your friends...
ThunderPeel2001 replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Video Gaming
I imagine, I guess, that somehow they contacted him and got taken seriously (maybe he was on the lookout for games at the time?). They sent their previous game over, he loved it, and agreed to hear about their latest project... which he then loved. Of course, I would love to believe it was the other way around: Jack Black loves Psychonauts, calls Tim up and says "I need to be in your next game!" -
There is less than zero chance that anyone will ever give them money to make a sequel to a game which nobody bought. You can forget it. I'll eat my hat, and anyone else's, if we ever see a follow up to Psychonauts. Don't mean to sound negative, but...

How to best explain Brutal Legend to your friends...
ThunderPeel2001 replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Video Gaming
Sorry, I wasn't quoting the crusade thing, but rather couldn't think of a better word so put it in quotes. Doesn't matter, I know what you're saying, I just refuse to be defeated! There must be a way! I think we know enough for people to get excited, otherwise they would have waited longer before releasing a trailer and done an 8 page article on the game. The question is: How to distill all that information down to cool bite size chunks. Makes you wonder how they pitched the idea in the first place! I wonder whether Jack Black was a fan of Psychonauts before or after Double Fine contacted him. -
How to best explain Brutal Legend to your friends...
ThunderPeel2001 replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Video Gaming
Thrik, I'm not on some "crusade" to educate my friends for the next year, I'm just interested to see how hard it is to sell (don't take that too literally) Brutal Legend to my friends, and I thought many minds might make light work of it. When I'm talking to a gamer friend, who doesn't necessarily know Tim Schafer, it's just plain difficult to explain why you're excited about it quickly enough and clearly enough to actually maintain their interest. I can't think of another game I'm looking forward to that has that problem, no matter how far off it is. I know we'll know more about the gameplay in the future, but knowing it's an FPS isn't going to make it any easier to explain why it's worth getting excited about, and quite frankly, saying that other games with "good concepts have come about and they were shite" is a completely redundant statement -- should we not get excited about *anything* just because other things turned out to be bad? I get what you're saying, but we know the major concepts, and knowing that Psychonauts is a platformer doesn't really do anything to help explain why you're excited by it, to another person. So, to get back to the original question, there must be an easy way to sum up this game? -

Yes, I've also used the sentence, "it's based in the world of 70s and 80s rock album covers". There has to be a way to get the awesomeness of this game across to people, though. For some reason I downplay the Jack Black involvement. Not sure why. -
This is brilliant!!! Simple, well crafted fun. I really enjoyed it! Well done!

A little post for those attempting to play, and struggling. There's a very basic move that you get most of your points for: Let the baddies build up next to you, and but keep shooting the ones in front of you until you get a pod. Then keep letting them building along side you, and let the Power Line thing to disappear... If you touch the baddies next you to now, you'll die, so use your Pod (RT) to refill the Power Line and then quickly bash all the baddies off for a massive multiplier bonus (the 'M' in the top right hand corner). It's soooooooo gooooooood!

Wow There was only one or two known bands that were actually themselves in GH2 weren't there?
-
Hmmm, the presentation is way off compared to Guitar Hero II. I thought it was probably an easy game to design, visually, but it does show how much care went into Harmonix's game. The only thing I prefer is being able to see the Artist and Year on the setlist. That's a cool addition. The music is... weird! The sound effects are way too loud, so you lose the music (I could barely hear the Tenacious D song). What's the with songs themselves though? The Pearl Jam song sounded exactly like the original.... was it?? I thought Tenacious D were doing a song for GH3, and yet... it didn't sound anything like Jack Black....?? Very bizarre. I'll most likely get GH3 because of the songs and the fact I won't need to buy another controller, but Rock Band is probably going to be where its at.
-
HAAARMONIIIIIIX!!! It sucks that they fell out with Red Octane and RO got to keep the Guitar Hero name. I feel sorry for them because all RO did was make the plastic guitars! Rock Band looks good... Can't imagine how incredibly expensive it's going to be with all those peripherals though!
-
Nicely done... but I feel the challenge will continue!
-
Not sure if he totally bashed Ep2, he just tends to focus on the negative stuff because that's what people want to hear. He's not always right, but he's often very entertaining!

Here you go, a brilliant step-by-step guide: http://savvygeek.com/2007/10/05/final-fantasy-vii-in-restored-glory/ Also a trouble shooting FAQ (probably has some things duplicated): http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=2670.0 Note that the FF7 XP 1.4 patch is nothing more than the two official patches, apparently, which might be why you're getting conflicting information. and some other things that make it "better" here, too (if you like that sort of thing): http://fem1.uniag.sk/Miroslav.Jezik/ff7ncopam.html and http://www.ff7-universe.com/Download.html
