Amazing movie
-
Have either of you read the original comic?
-
Agreed. Best film of the year! Also, it may not be as cool as it once was (?) but the new series of Lost is seriously

Dear Lord
-
Ah, that's good to know so that I won't get my hopes up too high. Thanks. I take it you've played it then?
-
Keep posting the new links... I always forget to check on Escapist. Thanks!
-
That's the one!
-
Yes! Thank you! That's one hurdle overcome! The game is called The Shivah. The writing is supposed to approach the complexity and maturity of a good novel... not that you'd know that from his review-less page. He also did a free adventure game called Two Of A Kind which won all sorts of awards. One day... I will progress to hurdle two. That's enough for one day, however.

In Soviet Russia, TV watches you. (I have no idea why I felt the need to add that to the discussion. I blame my head cold.)

Have you seen Armadillo (if that's its name)? It's quite a clever mixture of physics and puzzles. I'm still keen on getting into those adventure games made by, er, that guy... Hmm. As you can see, I still have some way to go before I actually a) track them down, purchase them and c) play them! (Nevermind d) actually complete them). So many hurdles! Apparently the writing in them is really good and you play a Rabbi in the first one or something... There should be an Indie Games repository where you can search for and rate games.

I don't know what to make of this. I suppose I wish these guys had some sort of real power, but people are apathetic and it's a lot easier to make a YouTube video than to carry out anything useful. http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2008/02/07/1202234012004.html

So how's the world's largest and most comprehensive Pokemon friend codes list coming?
-
That's really great! Thanks so much for that, it makes me want to go and play it right now... But my gf is pulling me out the door! It's good to know you don't have to be a gaming god to get the good ending...

Toshiba officially gives up on HD-DVD format
ThunderPeel2001 replied to twmac's topic in Movies & Television
Yeah, if all this had been sorted out in 2005 when Toshiba were getting ready to bow out, it would have stood more chance of making an impact. The consumer generally finds HD confusing and unnecessary, but it was even more confusing when you could easily pick a 'losing' side. WV: I would question any rumours you've heard about extreme payments and whatnot. People "in the know" (ie. The Digital Bits which had just about the most up to date and accurate news coverage, I'd say) said it was interesting because they've got a lot of industry insiders which they trust, and also have a pretty damned good understanding of the technology and the companies involved. They say they witnessed, on quite a few occasions, rumours being inserted into forums and news-sites that were complete and total lies... always against Sony/Blu-Ray. Where did they bizarre lies that creeped into different channels around the internet come from? Well, essentially it's pretty obvious that the HD-DVD camp were planting these stories. (MS continues to be a classy company.) It's clever marketing if you think about it, but it's certainly made me begin to question and doubt these "rumours" I read on news sites and forums*. * This post is of course the exception and is 100% accurate **. ** May not be 100% accurate. Linky poos for those who are interested in the physical/download debate: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/21/technology/personaltech/21pogue.html/?_r=1&oref=slogin and quote from The Digital Bits: -
Isn't there a big disclaimer at the beginning saying that you've got to agree to be ok viewing 'offensive material'?

Toshiba officially gives up on HD-DVD format
ThunderPeel2001 replied to twmac's topic in Movies & Television
Yup, I think Toshiba was offering $500 million to Universal before that. -
Looks like it could be fun, but I'm wary of installing any "free" internet games. Anyone heard of it? http://flyff.gpotato.com/ad/

Anyone seen this... is it any good?

The URL is http://www.forumwarz.com (this link works ), not checked it out yet, though. -
Jeez, it must have taken some practice to get 100% on all the levels! 8 out of 12 achievements as well? Wow. Got any tips?
-
Why do we have them anyway? Do people over the age of twenty chew more?!

Toshiba officially gives up on HD-DVD format
ThunderPeel2001 replied to twmac's topic in Movies & Television
Well one thing's for sure: The format war didn't help that WV, did you read the article? Because it definitely was to do with codecs. They pushed their codecs on HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. Why would they bother spending millions upon millions trying to keep HD-DVD alive if they just wanted digital distribution? Yeah, not sure what I make of that article. I'd hardly say that Vista was a commercial failure either. It took quite a while for XP to saturate the consumer base, I don't see why Vista would have been any different. It's not like the PC world is filled fanatics who are happy to buy a slight OS upgrade every year or so... *cough* *OSX* *cough* -

I think I'll skip that then! I don't have enough free time, really, and I've got lots of other games I should play before trying something new (in theory, anyway). Very pretty and professional looking for a free game, though. -

Cool. I might try checking them out. -
Wow, that's pretty cool. I've gotten email replies and they do seem pretty decent guys. Nice one meeting them! Hopefully they find a way to turn their passion into cash, so we can keep enjoying these things

Toshiba officially gives up on HD-DVD format
ThunderPeel2001 replied to twmac's topic in Movies & Television
Ugh. It turns out it was all (possibly) Microsoft's fault. Their desire to control the next gen of codecs seems to have meant that the war continued for years. Plus they used all kinds of crappy marketing tactics like spreading mis-information to online communities that HD-DVD was easier to crack than Blu-Ray... which was a total lie. Read it: http://www.roughlydrafted.com/2008/02/21/lessons-from-the-death-of-hd-dvd/ Every tiny detail might not be spot on (I don't know), but apparently the peeps at TheDigitalBits say that everything they know about from their point of view (ie. films) is pretty spot on.
