The Great "Rock Band" European Rip-Off!
ThunderPeel2001 replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Video Gaming
Pretty interesting, with some good points. Hmmm. Still don't understand why they couldn't reduce the price of the actual game, though. It's RRP is £50, which is $90... almost the price of the entire game including peripherals in the US. -
I never EVER understood why Homestar Runner was popular... Maybe I should give it another go?
-
Well, the game isn't available yet, so it's hard to say. Activision/Red Octane will probably try and make it illegal for Rock Band to be able to use their equipment Still, wouldn't only having a guitar, and no microphone or drumkit, severely limit the game's enjoyment? I'm waiting to see if the price will come down. There's got to be some sort of uproar about it... Where's Anonymous when you need them?

Crisis Core?! More like Crisis COCK!

Well, don't get too downhearted, the game is getting pretty decent reviews elsewhere. Not groundbreaking, to be sure, but solid. Its current Metacritic score is 85%, for example. -

So it's not good then? -
The PEGI system only a guideline for buyers and not enforceable by law... so any 9 year old can merrily go and buy it. I was actually so surprised that I wrote a letter to PC Gamer about it:
-
I would happily import, but the game is Region encoded, would you believe Also, it's impossible to import for less than £150, plus there's the risk of import taxes on the way it, too. Argh.

Is there any news on a European release yet? The wait is killing me!! EDIT: Bloody typical! I finally got around to posting this and a second later they release the date... http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/uk-rock-band-release-set-for-may-23 XBox360 version due out on May 23rd! (PS3 and PS2 in the "summer".) Still a ways off, but at least I know when! Not sure about the weird-ass pricing scheme, though: The "Instrument Pack" will retail for GBP 129.99 / EUR 169 (featuring the drum kit, guitar and microphone peripherals) The actual game will cost GBP 49.99 / EUR 69.99 (!) Bringing the total bundle to around GBP 180 (inc. tax) which is the equivalent of $355 USD!!!!!!! (Even though the US version retails for $170 (£91) excluding tax.) I think it might be cheaper to import the US version and just buy the game version when it's released. OW! My ass!!!

Who let you out of the other forum?

I'll bet you anything that Anne Diamond got pissed off that her face wasn't prominent enough. All this "moral guardian" shit is just publicity for a soulless person who thrives on the adoration of strangers. It looks like her 12 year old son Photoshopped it for her! Still, I AM shocked that CoD4 doesn't have a BBFC certificate (not even a 15!). That game is pretty damn violent.

I've felt bored with new games for years. I particularly can't stand anything generic. It's good really because I don't have the time for them anymore. It does mean I'm a lot more discerning about what I play, which is actually quite nice because I don't feel I'm missing out on the slew of "great games" that are coming out. I'm sure everyone here feels the same way. It's why we're all so grumpy, annoyed and cynical, isn't it? For me Guitar Hero II is still my saviour. That and Dave Gilbert's games.

Yep, I spotted it now! If you hadn't mentioned what it was, I wouldn't know what it was supposed to be, though. (Sorry!) "What r u wearing" - Still cracks me up!

Top Tip: To do a "two-wheeler", go in a straight line until your speed goes one notch above 50. Then, still holding down the accelerator, turn hard. You should start doing a wheelie. (If not then you either didn't hold left or right long enough, or you weren't going fast enough.) To hold the wheelie, use the accelerator and the button you turned with (no need to use the other direction button). If you're going to fall into your side, ease off the accelerator. If you're going to land flat (ie. go to back to four wheels) tap the turn button. That's it! It's all about finding a balance between the turn and the accelerator, and tapping each to maintain your wheelie. Best so far... 7 seconds!
-
I didn't even notice it. What's the relevance?
-
Good show! (Pokemon Friend Codes)
-
One the developers shows how to do the 2-wheeler acheivement: http://www.vimeo.com/653885/ He manages 25 seconds!!! And gets 500,000 points for it! From just doing 2 wheel tricks for his entire game, he manages to get 2.2 million points.

1,615,650 Is it just me still playing this then?

Yep, I guess so! It's quite a complicated film, really
-
Cool. I've moved on to The Blackwell Legacy... and I'm loving that so far, too! If you do get frustratingly stuck in The Shivah (and do I remember the bit you're talking about, I got pretty confused too), just yell and I'll happily give you a hint!
-
Nope. There's a bit where you might *think* that, but the answer is right in front of you.
-
Shivah: Bought it (only £2.50/$4.99!!!), played it, completed it  Brilliant game that shows just how far you can get with good dialogue, realistic characters and an interesting story. It's the Dogme 95 of video games.
-
I think the title kind of sums it up, really. The film is about the realisation that the world moves on without you. That eventually you will grow old and lose your place and make way for another side of humanity that you can't even fathom.
