Wow, stunning photos! It'll be interesting to look back at how crap 2012 looks in comparison to this. Not to mention the fact that the surrounding area (Stratford/Leyton) is now not getting any money to help revitalise this poor area... which was the only reason we won the bid in the first place. Grrr... Boris fuckhead. Sorry. Stunning photos, though!

Good analysis Rodi. I agree with pretty much everything you said I've written my own critique based on my concerns (ignoring all the great aspects of the movie -- and it was an excellent film): Note: The Alan Moore "quote", while accurately reflecting what he said, isn't an exact quote, as I still can't find the interview where he said it.

Then we should all have a meet up!

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Guns of the Saucer Men From Mars
ThunderPeel2001 replied to Cigol's topic in Video Gaming
Metal Gear 1 is not Metal Gear Solid This is what I meant by "retro-shock"... (Does Wikipedia allow hotlinking?) Quite a bit different, eh? Also, I have Twin Snakes, I luckily picked it up on eBay recently for about £25 (guess I got really lucky!)... problem is that it was the US version, so I needed to pick up Freeloader, too (an additional £10 - bah, at least I can use it for other things, I guess). At first I was irked by the changes (the "techno" music, the over-the-top bullet time effects, ridiculously extended scenes of Ocelot spinning his gun, and a totally different Game Over screen - shock!), but I've gotten used to it now and am enjoying playing through the classic storyline once again! -
Just got back from it... Holy crap. What a film (if not entirely good in the way you probably expect it to be). Intense, intelligent, gruelling. Phew. The whole thing to do with Heath Ledger is the saddest part, though. I came away truly unhappy that we've lost such an amazing actor -- and also such a great adversary for Batman (sorry if that sounds shallow -- but he's brilliant). Such an odd experience - his death definitely taints the movie going experience in some way, and surely has something to do with it breaking all those records (it's currently listed as THE best film of all time on IMdB -- which it most definitely is not). You can't help but feel something for Ledger after watching it, though. As Gary Oldman put it: What an incredible shit-bomb. Just one of those things, but one I could definitely do without. The film itself was so dense that I think they could have easily drawn it out over two films... but I'm glad they didn't. More solid, well-crafted story-telling from Christopher Nolan. Thank you, sir

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Guns of the Saucer Men From Mars
ThunderPeel2001 replied to Cigol's topic in Video Gaming
Finished the original Metal Gear last night, I'm quite pleased to say. After getting over the "retro-shock" I found it to be a pretty damn enjoyable game. I was also surprised at how many elements were present in this early iteration: The Codec, rescuing Metal Gear's scientist, card keys, bosses with weird names (like Dirty Duck and Machine Gun Kid) and of course: Characters that double-cross you! For posterity, here's the plot: Roll on MG2. -

Surely you jest? I remember a year ago when a train on my line came off it's rails. Afterwards the newspapers reported the passengers saying that, since nobody died, the the trains were actually pretty safe. As far as I'm concerned, a train has two functions: Move forward and stay on the fucking rails!!! -
MySpace comic?!

Right... I'm going to make a bold and decisive decision. Prepare yourselves. How about those who can make it meet up not this weekend, not the next weekend, but at some point during the weekend after that... in London! What does everyone think? -
I guess the delay was thinking of a name for it...

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Guns of the Saucer Men From Mars

Well I finally got Subsistence. Voided my warranty... but it works! :shifty: -
Damn. That's pretty annoying! You could be "TheRealWrestlevania@..."?
-
Novelty wearing thin... How hard can it to implement a simple "Are you human?" "What's 4+4?" "The sky is..." questions during sign up? Do the mods needs a hand?

Convention inverted *sniffle* -

Time will tell...

I'm not saying I'm against going to sunny Brighton, if that's what people are up for (maybe we could have two outings(!)), but isn't it... London: Ben, Alex, Lawrence, Bob, N0wak, Me Brighton: Me, Yufster, Marek, Ginger, Danjw, Nick Ie. Six for six? I suppose Brighton is a lot less hectic... once you get there -
Is there another Wrestlevania?

Hello?! Surely you're talking about Doogie Howser! Agreed. The music is pretty lame... and I really dislike lame music in musicals. (I still really enjoyed the show, though - mainly because Doogie NPH was so good and the concept was well handled.) Talking about the concept: Can anyone see the conclusion coming a mile off? I *hope* they don't just do a "woman realises both guys are bad, leaves them both -- Horrible and Hammer go back to their old ways. The end". We'll see if they invert the convention...
-
Lol, so true. I still say Star Power when I'm explaining the game to people, which probably confuses the crap out of them.
-
Agreed. It's looks tremendously generic and unexciting. Duke's most memorable scenes took place in "real life" environments.
-
Seriously... what the hell is going on? Surely there's things we can do?!

So, I suppose you've all heard about the pyro news...
ThunderPeel2001 replied to Scrobbs's topic in Video Gaming
I still can't read some of them There's got to be lots of other ways to stop spammers though... Even a simple "Are you human" sneaked into the registration must filter out a lot of crap. Three simple questions like that would require a manual spammer. Anyways, back to Pyro... -
I think he did it during the strike, didn't he? Well anyways, a big heads up: Act III goes live tomorrow and then (the day after) it's gone.
