  1. Soul Calibur: XBLA

Anybody picked this up, yet? Looks pretty sweet! Not sure why the sound samples are so horrendously low quality, but the demo is good fun.
  2. Geometry Wars 2!

Yay! I played this last night and I have to say: A fantastic improvement over the original. Still frustrating at times, but definitely less so, and there's plenty of different things to do as well. It'd be cool if more Thumbs bods got it, too.
  3. MGS3: Fail? :(

I thought MGS: Integral has 1st first mode, which pretty much makes it the same as Snake Eater, camera wise... or did you mean all the extra moves that are missing? Well, I finished The Twin Snakes over the weekend. Enjoyable to play the old "classic" once again, especially when you get past some of the annoyances. The ending isn't quite as strong as MGS2's, but it's still good stuff. As for Snake Eater, I found it as difficult as Toblix. The Virtuous Mission was pretty damned hard/annoying and I do feel that, even on Very Easy, there was little or no guidance. I always tried to keep my camo 85%+, but I still got spotted. I suppose I really need to hone my skills before moving on. I'm three hours in at the moment, but I might restart on Easy as I kind of think that Very Easy alters the gameplay away from how it was designed (you get an unlimited ammo "EZ" gun, for example, rather than more lenient baddies - or so it seems). Even on Very Easy alerts don't disappear from screen to screen, your silencer still breaks, your batteries still run down... It's pretty hardcore for an MGS game. It sort of feels like "Metal Gear Solid: Back to basics/make it real", which is an idea I'm slowly warming to, provided I manage to get better at it! If I have time, I'll pick it up tonight.
  4. MGS3: Fail? :(

    Subsistence for £25/$40?! That's a pretty good price! (NTSC version) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Metal-Gear-Solid-3-Subsistence-Playstation-2-RARE_W0QQitemZ160266528105QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Metal-Gear-Solid-3-Subsistence-Playstation-2-3-PS2-PS3_W0QQitemZ110275023689QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Metal-Gear-Solid-3-Subsistence-Playstation-2-3-PS2-PS3_W0QQitemZ120288690222QQcmdZViewItem
  5. MGS3: Fail? :(

Thanks guys, that's precisely what I wanted to hear Phew! Huh?
  6. Geometry Wars 2!

The first one was pure TORTURE. I don't see how anyone could get decent scores on it without being a weathered Zen master at it. Far too hardcore for the sake of it. I'll give this sequel a go, though.
  7. New people: Read this, say hi.

I don't think you should be making promises that we might not be able to keep...
  8. Snuff Box...

    Joyful YouTube clip:
  9. Is Braben losing it? ...and other musings.

He's been saying that for a few years now, but I've also heard things about his mental stability. Back in 1993, for example, he accused Amiga Power of having a vendetta against him and deliberately doctoring screenshots of Frontier to make it look bad... just because they gave it a (very deserved) 65% (or 75% on the A1200).
  10. Annoying flash game...

My apologies... this is very annoying, but it comes under the title of "World's Hardest Game". I got to Level 8. http://www.addictinggames.com/theworldshardestgame.html
  11. Annoying flash game...

How hard is it to implement a Captcha system?
  12. FUUUUUUCK!!!

Mine's lying horizontal on carpet But it's never scratched a disk! After I got my new one back, I was pleased to discover they'd replaced the fans with quieter ones. They're still audible, just not quite as loud as before.
  13. Why so serious?

    Good move
  14. FUUUUUUCK!!!

Mine RRoD'd off and on and then on and on and on.... So you might have to send it back eventually. If so, I hope your returns experience goes as smoothly as mine: I it sent off and returned within two weeks. Good luck! PS - Best make sure you package it up properly, you're likely to get the same machine back.
  15. Where is everybody?

It's gone eerily quiet in here... After GTAIV and Rock Band, is everyone all gamed out?
  16. Where is everybody?

Not even slightly... although I think Nintendo's recycling policies are bad? http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/08/wii-the-greenes.html http://www.greenpeace.org/international/clashoftheconsoles/nintendo.html Hmmm...
  17. Brutal Legend, more like... oh fuck

"Brütal Legend is fine.", or so says Tim. I hopes he's not lying or wrong.
  18. Japanese Radio

Just listening passively won't help at all as it's not engaging your brain in the same way Rosetta Stone does. You need to be confronted by someone or something you don't understand and then your brain will kick-in trying to comprehend them. Although, if you partially understand Japanese, rather than have no idea what they're saying, it might help re-enforce what you already know? There's always the old fashioned, listen and repeat, methods that might supplement Rosetta Stone?
  19. Duke Nukem Trilogy more like ... WTF ?!...

Yep, I reckon they've probably left it far too late.
  20. Why so serious?

Yep, I guess you're right. They're not going to change the formula now.
  21. How are you guys? ...we're fine.

Maybe some accents are addictive? I still sound American...
  22. How are you guys? ...we're fine.

Aye, my gf and I saw him in London about a year ago. He was very good, but his set was very short. My favourite observation was how "A grown man is simply a child holding a beer". Very true Don't know what to make about you and your Dutch friends? Maybe the Dutch are especially adept or maybe some people just find it impossible to change their accent? Who knows. The only online information about it is from people who offer courses to change you accent. Of course, according to them, it's exceptionally easy to change your accent... with the help of their tuition
  23. How are you guys? ...we're fine.

Well, I've been told it's very rare from a language specialist *shrugs*. Really, once you're no longer a kid, it's very rare for it to be necessary for an adult to need to change their accent, so it would be odd if we were all given that ability. I've met plenty of people who would have LOVED to lose their accent, but they can't. When I lived in LA, for example, I met two Scottish people (who weren't together), one of whom had lived in America since she was 12. She sounded like she'd just stepped off the plane (and hated it). When I was in Tunisia I met a guy in his 60s who had ran away and joined the Foreign Legion in his youth. He spoke fluent Arabic (much to the surprise of the hotel staff) but he still spoke in a thick Yorkshire accent. Living in America, a lot of people didn't believe I was British -- they'd (suspiciously) say "If you're English, where's your accent?". (Which is how the language specialist told me it was rare -- and something they study.) I don't think you know if you've really lost your accent unless someone from the country you think you sound like actually confirms it. Anyone hear of that woman who was reported to have magically acquired a Jamaican accent after a stroke? (Linky: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/health/article682523.ece ) Of course what really happened was that she'd lost some control of her vocal muscles/had some brain damage and only sounded Jamaican to British people. To Jamaicans she didn't sound anything like a Jamaican.
  24. Movie/TV recommendations

Watchmen LOOKS amazing... but can it match it with characters and storyline? Probably not. Nite-Owl is kind of a pudgy, superhero, lacking in self-confidence and struggling with life. I don't recall him doing backflips... Hmmm. Amazing trailer, though.
  25. How are you guys? ...we're fine.

Totally, for some odd reason I do that and I can't help myself. Apparently it's quite rare. Losing your accent is a supposedly very difficult thing to do.
