No images anymore... sob

Hmmm. Let me just say this: I LOVE the Metal Gear series. (I even bothered to play and complete Metal Gear!) I loved Metal Gear Solid and recently replayed the Twin Snakes version. I LOVED Metal Gear Solid 2... but! Although everyone seems to generally agree that MGS3 is a huge pile of awesome, I feel a bit let down by it so far... It's definitely not ALL bad, but here's what's bugging me so far: Firstly, what's up with the lame Bond wannabe opening sequence? Is it supposed to be a clever homage since this game takes place in the 60s? It just didn't feel like MGS to me. The tone seems wrong. In fact, the tone of the entire game feels very different... almost too different from what I was expecting The gameplay is has changed, too. The game is incredibly unforgiving. If you get seen (and there's no radar this time) you're amazingly screwed - it's practically game over. Also, what's with the tedious "Disinfectant + Stitches + Sutures + Bandages" every time you want to increase your health? (Also, crawling around and stabbing frogs for food?) It seems like an idiotic system. I even miss the Codec calls... it seems so lonely this time around. I haven't liked some of the plot choices so far, either. PLEASE tell me that wasn't a young Revolver Ocelot who has crossed my path early on? It's SO lame that the two of them would have fought before but not remember each other in the later games. I mean, how can he be younger in this game but older in the others? When Eve is about to shoot him, Snakes stop her saying "he's young". She replies, "You'll come to regret that". Yikes... Is Hideo suddenly pro-capital punishment? I know it may just be one of those things that's not supposed to be examined, but if he was, THAT'S how you'd get your point across in a clumsy manner: Don't shoot and kill the bad people now, and years later they'll be a massive pain in your backside. Finally, for a series that prides itself in taking science, pseudo-science and bollocks and mixing them all up, there seems to be a lot more bollocks to science this time. *sigh* On the plus side, it's certainly not all bad. The story is VERY strong. The mixture of fact and fiction (with the Cuban Missile Crisis etc.) is utterly brilliant and very atmospheric. Wonderfully done. I've only just started the second mission (Operation Snake Eater), so I'm very early into the game and hopefully these shocks due to the changes will pass. But it's just so... different. *sob* Will it get better?

I remember: Short guy with bad breath?

How about some sort of life-swap? You come to rainy London and I move back to sunny Cali and stalk hang out with Tim Schafer? Also, being a US citizen, why don't you just move up north, as others have suggested? It may not be exotic to you people (actually, I'm sure you view it as quite the opposite) but it's gotta be safer and cooler. How about Vancover? Also also: Surely McCain isn't going to win...??? I might have to move planet if he does.

What with this new forum....??? It frightens me!!!! Who are you people? How did I get here? Is this where the wow gold is kept?

Damn thing never really got to me. Still finding the universe to be impenetrable and lacking in direction (not touching that terrible main storyline... it's pants!).
-
Easier? Oooooh! How?
-
Haha! That was the same puzzle that broke me, too. Every other one I figured out. I can't seem to get all the hidden texts, though. Plus there's apparently some hidden stars and an alternative ending to find... Pretty cool. I think your opinions on the ending seem pretty spot on, too. I'd like to find the key to understanding it all and see if it holds up. Great game

Completed it. Loved it. And the above comment is very true!
-
Cool, thanks for the heads up! I'll definitely do that!
-
*shudders* It sounds like an experience... not sure if it sounds "life affirming", however.
-
Ah, so that's why I've never heard of CEX
-
Try posting that stuff of a retro board like http://eab.abime.net/?styleid=1 - Good luck!

Indeed, Hell Boy II was a goodun'. I also have to say that Get Smart was a pleasant way to spend the evening. Sure it wasn't brilliant, but there's some great moments (non of which came from Terrence Stamp, surprisingly, who is amazingly pants in the movie).

Got to say that I felt a lot more emotionally touched by MGS2 than MGS3. The ending of MGS2 was especially potent and I loved the conspiracy stuff. In 3 it just wasn't there... I didn't really feel anything for the characters. For example, when you'd think that more of a fuss would be made. It's a shame, I still think there's something I was missing. I'll probably go back at some point and experience it again...

Well, I completed it! I never quite got the same feeling of enjoyment as I did from MGS2. I felt the storyline (usually one of MGS's strongest points) was pretty weak: Go after your boss, stop the baddies and kill the four horsemen of the apocalypse on route. With the other games the bosses felt like they we're part of the storyline -- but here they felt tacked on. It was only really the end (and I mean RIGHT at the end) where the storyline came back. In many ways MGS3 improved upon the elements of the previous games. You were a lot more "in" the game, there were no "cheap" ways to get past things and the conversations were always short, amusing and to the point... But in terms of the whole mythology and the actual fun I had playing it, I preferred MGS2.

Yup, that's how it looked to me, too. I'm still not totally convinced by the Creature Creator... *shrugs* I guess I'll have to give it a go, though. One amazingly annoying thing: Because I bought the Creature Creator, I get the £5 I spent on it off the price of the full game. (I could have even downloaded it early and "unlocked" it today, too.) But EA is selling it for £40, even with my £5 discount that's £35 just for a downloadable version. Amazon.co.uk is selling it for £27... including delivery. What a con! It's also interesting to note that the only review on Amazon.co.uk calls the game "tedious" and gives it one star! Does Spore = Bore? (And will any reviewers make the same lame joke?) Time will tell...
-
What's Spore Reloaded? Is it a hacked version?
-
My fingers are mightily twitchy... but he's just so polite.

"The director claims that there are no special effects in the film despite its surreal looks. Everything was shot on real locations." Wow. Might just have to check this one out... EDIT: This film has yet to be released... that's probably why no-one's heard of it. Oddly enough, it's apparent released to cinemas here in the UK in... two days!

I'm so glad there's at least one McCain supporter here.

Can anyone help me find a cracked version of the Rohan character because I don't want to pay for him? That's what it said to me, but I've absolutely no idea what the hell they're talking about.
-
Lol. I really enjoyed that one. "Is he gone? Good, I hate that guy!"
-
I know this is unrelated and completely non-constructive and pointless... but I have to say it: I HATE Dwight Schrute!!!! Sorry. I have issues... ...with Rainn Wilson being a complete one-trick unfunny wonder
