You've intrigued me... Considering I initially found Fable I to be pretty solid and enjoyable, but then on returning found it incredibly average (if polished)... I'm really not sure I could face Fable II if it was similar to the original. How do you think Fable II compares to the first one? Is it a significant improvement, or do you not think that the original didn't need significant improvement?

Grand Thumb Auto for the new year
ThunderPeel2001 replied to miffy495's topic in Multiplayer Networking
I think Wed could be a definite maybe for me! -
At 2am Pacific Standard Time, 31st December 2008, every single 30GB Zune on the planet ceased to function. No-one knows why, not even Microsoft. Happy freaking New Year! (Merriments of the New Year variety to my fellow thumbs )

No... (Yes, I'm a total idiot.)

I really hope that's a picture of you! (The avatar, I mean.)

Beardy failure is yours to behold (and what a scary thread that was).

Hey! Even though this game sounds justifiably crap and nothing more than a moderate expansion of an average, if reasonably polished, game. REMEMBER! It was voted GOTY by the Thumb staffers...

While I agree the film was unfortunately disappointing (where was the fun??), in its defence: Remaking Superman: The Movie would be stupid and pointless. Firstly, everyone knows Superman's origin story -- even my mother. Why bother "rebooting"? Secondly, the first movie was excellent... why try and top it? So! I applaud Bryan Singer for deciding to do a sequel to that movie instead... it's just a shame it wasn't so good. My likes: The original opening! As V points out, they copied it exactly. An incredibly cool touch. My dislikes: Brandon Routh is an ok Clark Kent, but a crap Superman. Why oh why was Kevin Spacey cast? Where was the light relief from Posie Parker (and why did she look so ugly in that horrible wig?). Why did Lois Lane receive such a beating in this movie... and why was she invulnerable? (Wouldn't it have been better for her to have been knocked out on the plane, only for her to regain conciousness with Superman standing over her?) Despite some nice touches, there was just no sense of urgency in the movie, especially in the end. "Ooh, a big rock is growing!" (Plot holes: Who wants to live on that rock? How could Lex defend it from the world's armies? Where would food grow?? Why on earth did Lois go investigating on her way to a award ceremony with her SON in tow??) Ugh. All my disappointment just came flooding back.

I wonder how long you have to be a member before that sentence actually means something...? (How do you define "never"?) Anyhoo, back on topic: What?

That's a very odd selection of games... Also: GTAIV < Fallout 3?! Hmmm. My game of the year is definitely Grand Theft Auto IV: It raised the bar for what can be expected from a game. It could have been less immature, but in terms of sheer quality, attention to detail and polish, it was absolutely perfect. Other games have got to try a lot harder now.

You mean... it's REAL? Weird.

It's currently available for £20 GBP in a lot of places in the UK... which is surprisingly good!

Freaky or what, eh? It's the YK9 bug... on a tiny selection of devices. It's all fixed now though (it was something to do with how the last day of a leap year is handled). They automatically started working again on their own. How bizarre!

Holy crap! I guess it's finally time to play Planescape: Torment.

Get well soon, Spaff! And a Merry fucking Christmas to everyone!

Oh man, I want that card!!! (You should put it on eBay)

Idle Thumbs 10: The Ballad of John Riccitiello
ThunderPeel2001 replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
One day EVERY domain will point to Idle Thumbs... muhahhaha! -
They're aimed at businesses to help them generate far more money than they actually cost. (It's $700 new and $200 for an upgrade.)

That's the ticket! Thanks!

Is it fake, though?

His great might was seen in Monkey Island 1 and 2, also.

That sounds like some cool stuff. I'm quite interested in the New Amsterdam book. I'm guessing that the name was changed because the British bought it from the Dutch and changed the name to an English city(?). At least that's what I always assumed. Who knows whether there were other political motivations. I read a rather interesting article in New Scientist about religion: Basically it's stood the test of evolution, which means that it has a purpose for human beings -- it is actually needed. But why? Well the theory I liked the most noted that ethics and religion actually developed at the same time (not before or after as other have speculated). The reasons for this, they surmised, was that our own beliefs (or "religion") were created to back-up our own sense of justice and right or wrong. That is to say: When man developed ethics and decided that killing and stealing were wrong, they needed to believe that some greater good backed up their own beliefs. Makes sense when you think about it.

I believe, although I'm not sure, that that song was featured in it? Back on topic: It's quite shocking to see so many people feeling the same dissapointment... It's a tiny bit off-putting, but despite what Ginger says, I have zero doubt that this will be a good game when it's finished. (Sorry Ginger, but Schafer has managed create, not merely "good" games, not just "great" games, but games that I have LOVED - every single attempt, six times in a row. I have a lot of faith in him for good reason.) It is very heartening, however, to hear that the game is still extremely unfinished... there's still a long way to go!
