  1. The Beatles Game

Well said May I just add, because I'm so sick of people saying "learn a real instrument" (although not on here, thankfully), that Guitar Hero II and Rock Band have massively increased my enjoyment of music and widened my musical tastes. As a direct result, for the first time in my life, I AM considering learning to play guitar. In short: Rhythm games have been windows to me enjoying and appreciating music more. Which is well worth the time I spend playing them, if you ask me.
  2. Books, books, books...

You can browse through some of my collection at LibraryThing (lots of comics ). http://www.librarything.com/catalog/JohnnyWalker
  3. The greatest headlines in the world (and other weird news stories)

I remember there was a Candian who worked for EA called "Chip Bumgardner". Edit: And here he is! I've never met anyone with those names...
  4. Could you guys do me a massive favour... Could completely list all the games that you mention in your podcasts -- or at least the obscurer ones? The reason is that, especially with all the weird Indie games you mention, it's hard to capture their titles... and hearing you go on about them makes me want to experience them! Thanks.
  5. Reasons to dislike the British press #343

Wow, my fellow Thumbs are rather cool It's not all about Murray, though, and I'd hate her to take all the blame. Her editors Derek Lambie and Paul Ashford are equally responsible, perhaps even more so - they didn't have to print what she had written and they didn't have to put it on the front page, either. I hope the PCC do something about this, but I'm pretty sure Paula Murray is probably fearing for her life about now, given all the abuse that's been sent to directly to her. I'd rather let the "authorities" deal with the situation... I just hope they actually do. SignorSuperDouche: I don't think that Jonathan Ross or Russell Brand technically broke any rules, either. I wonder how the PCC will deal with mounting public complaints...
  6. Clever reinvention...?

...or an astoundingly ineffectual and silly name? You decide.
  7. Clever reinvention...?

Lol, sorry any misunderstanding... I was indeed complaining about the crappy, badly named restaurant, not "the French".

  10. Are YOU a rapist?

I've no idea why you need to feel guilty for not being a "phwoar, tits and beer!" kind of guy. I think you're a better human being for it and I think a lot of women would agree. (Maybe you've just had bad personal experiences?) "Our" type of men are well-represented by popular culture, and I certainly don't feel alone, different or hated. Enough with the generalisations, already
  11. Are YOU a rapist?

Maybe... The thing is, this isn't "her story", it's her story having been edited down from a TV interview, which was then turned into a newspaper article. It's gone through at least two forms of editing before arriving on the pages of The Sun. Of course I have to agree that what IS said does indeed sound like a particularly weak example of rape, but I'm sure even Ulrika could see that if she'd read the article herself. I guess I'm just giving her the benefit of the doubt based on my complete and utter lack of faith in newspapers. Well, that is the very definition of date rape. Most attackers (over 90%) are known to the victim. They're not faceless thugs who try to disappear into the night, they're people who take advantage of relationships and security, and then try to play down what's happened. Just like with child abuse cases. From RapeCrisis.co.uk:

Man, that Jo O'Meara video is freaky... I thought she might have been layig it on for sympathy, but she seemed pretty genuinely messed up. Christ, I feel sorry for her now. Presumably she's got her head back together again.
  13. Are YOU a rapist?

    1. Men are not a species. 2. Women have been the dominated members of society for more like 35,000 years (at least). 3. Today more than 1 in 5 women experience sexual assault in their lives. 4. 5% of women will experience rape. 5. 0.4% of men will experience rape - 98% from a male attacker. 6. That's 0.008% of men being raped by women (going back to what you mentioned in the beginning). Let me just say something, though: Whether it's woman on man or man or woman or whatever... rape is a very serious and very horrible crime and I don't mean to belittle it. I just don't subscribe to this lazy "[men can't be raped] is the stance of almost all legal systems" and "hatred of men is everywhere in our society" hyperbole. The facts is that it is much worse for women, even within the legal system. Successful prosecution for rape is very hard to come by and the victim will often be bullied and blamed for the rape by the defence. I mean, just look how easy Yuffy finds it to blame Ulrika -- all based on a single piece of poorly written journalism, cobbled together from a second-hand account. Women, the overwhelming victims are rape, are often made to feel that it was their fault, in precisely the same way you complain that men are. There's the old saying that goes, "in a rape case it is the victim, not the defendant, who is on trial". To say that men have it worse than women IS to belittle the crime of rape, IMHO. FYI: Changes to the 1956 Sexual Offences act in 1994 made the rape of a man an equal crime to rape of a woman.
  14. Are YOU a rapist?

Oh, the poor plight of men. Raped left, right and centre with nobody to stand up for us. Makes me weep.
  15. The Beatles Game

A Beatles game is something the whole family could enjoy...
  16. Are YOU a rapist?

    Really?

It is actually pretty sad. She wasn't really racist, either. If you'd watched the entirety of that particular Big Brother (*places bag on head*), and not just the sensational bits regurgitated by the press, you'd have seen that it was clearly a class thing. Goody felt insecure around Shetty and thought she looked down on her. That worsened from the pressure-cooker of the BB house and the fact that Danielle Lloyd and Jo O'Meara (who? I hear you cry) felt exactly the same way. The three of them formed an ugly, bitching, bullying clique. It was disgusting to watch, but it wasn't motivated by racism. (Indeed all of the "outraged" complaints only came pouring in AFTER the so-called "racism" angle had been mentioned in the press -- just like with the recent Ross/Brand thing.) Despite the latter two women having said the vast majority of the controversial comments and being the most bitchy, Goody got the all of the blame simply because the British public is too lazy to remember names. If it had only been Shetty and Goody in the house, they would have been forced to confront their differences and come to realise that they didn't really hate each other. As it was, the three women had each other to complain to and "confirm" their stupid fears. All this and I haven't even touched on the ugliest fact of all: This was simply a well captured cross-section of British society. I've seen similar things (and worse) my entire life -- except they weren't on TV, so that's ok then. Luckily, by removing it from our TVs, we fixed society too. Regardless of all this, she was a 27 year old woman with two kids. It was a very shocking and sad death.

That way you could become bored with repetitive sequences of chords on a REAL guitar!

Indeed, I find a 35 degree angle yields the best results
  20. Are YOU a rapist?

    Interesting...
  21. I think you'll love this -- Pepsi design strategy

Creating a trajectory into the future. But seriously, what else does Pepsi have going for it. It IS just a brand and nothing more. Fizzy brown liquid and a logo. I bet they're really clutching at straws looking at ways to "reinvent" themselves once again.
  22. I think you'll love this -- Pepsi design strategy

You're kidding... The one on the right is the "new" design? I looked at it and I immediately thought it was a cheap bootleg or Tropicana in some third world country. That is astoundingly awful looking. Did the CEO's daughter do it for a school project...?? Jesus!
  23. The Beatles Game

Can't hear you... LA LA LA!!!
  24. Google Streetview UK launches

Yes indeed! What is wrong with this fucking country? FRONT PAGE NEWS?!? There is literally nothing more important to the British public than Google maps... Good grief. Luckily I overheard a kind gent explaining the furore to a confused passenger: "The problem is you can look at people's houses for entry and exit points to break in." Really? I thought you could only see what anybody could see from street level. It's not like you can go round the back or have up to the minute status on open windows. He went on to explain: "You can zoom right in and see the types of locks people have on their windows... That's the level of detail we're talking about." His fellow passenger let out a quiet gasp. The British public see headlines and then imagine what the article is about... and then they go and explain what their imaginary version of the article to other people they meet on the train. It makes me want to weep!
  25. Clever reinvention...?

Jesus, that's so incredibly lame! I can't believe it. Well, their food is shite, so at least French people will be warned away.
