I'll never quite understand how they animated Big Bird... but part of me doesn't want to know! -
New "old-school" LucasArts game announced tomorrow
ThunderPeel2001 replied to toblix's topic in Video Gaming
No, don't let the hype get you down, Loom is a bit weird, is all. There's the EGA version with 16 colour graphics. There's the Enhanced CD version with 256 colour graphics and voice over soundtrack (and CD quality music, IIRC). The only problem is that the CD version was forced to cut out lines of dialogue and character close-ups, in order to fit the game onto a CD... So it's either REALLY old skool 16 colour graphics or 256 colour graphics and a snazzy soundtrack with voice over... but less dialogue. Some trivia from Wikipedia: -

I think it looks better below, but each to his own... -
Says eljay... I still fancy checking this one out. It has rather good credentials. Also, Bruno, which I hope is bloody hilarious.

Well, I'm still broken up from my fiance, but I'm going for a trip to Los Angeles on Friday for two whole weeks! I've got some friends out there and I'm really excited about going... AND I'm also going to this year's Twin Peaks festival in Seattle (or thereabouts) while I'm over there, where I'll see even more old friends. Exciting stuff!

Jeez, National Geographic has really gone downhill, hasn't it? Quote: "FIRST PHOTOS: Weird Fish With Transparent Head" Astounding creatures, though... The first one makes me think of Spore

How can a roadie be transported through space and time to world made out of heavy metal album covers?

I don't think there's any argument with that... it's just a shame that he was such a bigot. As for HHGG part six.... Ugh. That author must be very brave or very stupid... If it gets decent reviews then I'll pick it up, but I just can't imagine how even Douglas Adams himself would get decent reviews for it.

Brutal Thoughts IV (surely it should be Roman numerals, DF...?) ci0kOcgw-5c The game footage actually looks like fun for the first time... awesome!

Generally speaking TOMI is the most polished game TTG have ever done, in my opinion. It really felt like a major full price title. Just so much attention to detail, and I LOVE the focus blurring. I didn't even notice that the other titles didn't have it, but TOMI feels so incredibly polished. Saying that, the inventory system WAS an evolutionary step backwards... I understand Jake's decisions, but he was given a bum brief. Yes, it DOES feel like an activity center -- but an inventory system shouldn't (anyone remember Universe?). As someone pointed out, you could teach the user they could combine items in the introduction (as TOMI actually did) and jump the hurdle with ease. CMI's inventory was the most intuitive and, I have to say, the pinnacle of adventure gaming inventories, thus far It's unfortunate that TOMI's is SO counter-intuitive. Nevermind, it's was far from ruining my experience!

What the hell...? Explain yourself... I'm planning on seeing it in LA when I'm over there.

This skin is the only thing that allows me to use Steam without vomiting into my mouth: http://www.deviantart.com/download/77575772/ If you feel the same way I do about the Steam interface, then I hope it makes your life that tiny bit better!

I just installed Steam on a new computer and got to see the default interface again... It LITERALLY makes me feel ill -- I don't know how people use it. Obviously I'm extremely sensitive to it, but still... It's horrible. (I'm so glad I made this thread with a handy link ) I have a question for everyone: What Steam skin do you use? Are you mostly using one of the defaults? -
Crane Wars is ok... pretty polished presentation for Blurst, but kind of lacking in fun.

Currently reading The Demolished Man by Alfred Bester.

You lazy sod It seems that this only backs up your assertion... It's vague and we shouldn't trust anyone who says otherwise

*sob* I still stand by what I said, but... even David Grossman just said to me: But he also said the following about Bill Tiller's quote:

This bastard stole my identity! I like this one. Subtle

I can't recall Monkey Island 2 having any cues that "very, very" clearly point to other possible interpretations...? Would you be so kind as to list them, or at least, some of them, because I don't believe you (As you've stated "comedy anachronisms", which have been the staple of period comedy for time immemorial, don't count.) As for reinterpreting standard and frequently seen narrative conventions in order to make them "ambiguous", I don't what to say. Can I ask you: What are your explanations for Chuckie's eyes and Elaine's questions? Are you suggesting that Chuckie was deliberately messing with an audience? Was he pretending to make his eyes glow (somehow)? To my mind, it was a simple breaking the fourth wall moment: Like James Bond saying "this never happened to the other fellas" during the opening of On Her Majesties Secret Service. Or, more recently, Kurt Russell smiling at the camera, just before he go nutso in Death Proof. These aren't "messages" to make you question the reality of what you're seeing... because the actor is still in character. Similarly, Elaine's questions at the very end give you another clear answer over what you've just seen: Like James Woods's "8 hours of static" line at the end of Contact. Even Bill Tiller, who supposedly revealed much about the original intentions, agrees that the two things I've mentioned were placed there to bring the game back to "reality" for sequel's sake... Leaving no room for other interpretation. Plus, there's also one more bit of evidence: Ron Gilbert categorically stating that the "it's all just a dream" answer was NOT "correct", shutting the yet another door on the ambiguity argument. I put it to you that there is simply no other way to interpret MI2's ending without deliberately ignoring what is shown to you. I'd love to hear the list of "very, very" clear cues in MI2.

Huh. Well, I'll be. My use of the word canon there doesn't actually make any sense. No idea why I put it there. I meant something along the lines of "as part of the narrative". "Canon"? Pft! What a dolt.

Who said anything about "canon"?
