Yeah I know, I was kind of shocked. It actually feels like someone's NOTES for a book, rather than a book in itself. Weird.

I was just going to say the same thing... Rock n' Roll!
-
Lol, well I've not played it, but they apparently created enough of a story for Card to write two novels about it (apparently SC bridges those two novels)... although some reviewers of the first book may take your side
-
That pretty much might well be what's going on in Shadow Complex... After a little research it seems the world of SC is based on the world started in Empire... possibly Card's most controversial novel. Yes, the bad guys ARE "radical lefties". Of course, there's nothing wrong with exploring new territories in art. Some reviewers took Empire as an attempt at showing how damaging political extremism is (on both sides), others saw it as nothing more than a two dimensional story strung together by right-wing rhetoric. Shadow Complex is a sequel to that novel. But that's not all (and this is something that the Gamasutra writer should have bothered to find out) the SC universe was NOT created by Card, but by the Mustards (of Chair Entertainment) FOR their Video game. They then hired Card to write a novel set there. So where does that leave us? I have no idea. The Mustards are apparently big fans of Scott Card (nothing wrong with that, I guess), probably Republican, and er, not actively campaigning against gay rights... If anybody is REALLY interested, you can read the first five chapters of Empire on Chair's website: http://www.chairentertainment.com/company/projects/empire

All games should end with a cool song about the game... (See Portal.)

Hmmm... that is a good excuse to unpack the 360 Maybe I'll join in this Tuesday(?).

Ugh. This was such a disappointment to me... Watching Ren & Stimpy in the 90s is an incredibly fond memory for me. I take it that none of you have bought and watched the Ren & Stimpy "Lost Episodes" DVD? It's a fantastic DVD, and the new episodes are enjoyable, but before each of the them is a talk by John K and, yeah, it's horrible and creepy... It's either him making crude remarks to his young female animator, him ranting about how Nickelodeon was "run by dykes!" or him and his equally weird and creepy older friends sitting around drinking beer. I still haven't managed to make it to the end of the DVD... even though he seemed to tone down the creepy/weirdness as it progressed. Shame

Awesome! What a cool looking dog!

Just noticed that the transitions were by our man, Jake... They did indeed rock my world. Heck, the whole polish in TOMI is just awesome and totally worth the extra time and effort put it. Great stuff!

I remember Ghibli getting some shit for essentially using Gorō's name to sell a movie (apparently, in Japan Miyazaki is a brand like Pixar). A very cheap move, especially considering Gorō's total lack of experience! Still, apparently the (real life) story had a good ending: Hayao Miyazaki send his son a nice note after attending the premiere. http://www.nausicaa.net/miyazaki/earthsea/blog/blog112.html I think it's fair to say that while Hayao Miyazaki is an awesome filmmaker, he might just suck a bit at being a dad

I believe it's actually to do with NTSC and PAL. Playing Amiga games in NTSC mode on my PAL system would remove the useless black space of the bottom of the screen, for example. PAL was 320x256 and NTSC was 320x200. So you need to stretch the image to a 4:3 ratio, in the same way ScummVM allows you to "correct" the aspect ratio.

Thanks dude, it's still smarting. So, you're moving to France on a whim? Wow... That's pretty brave... What happened to the writing career? I seem to recall you getting something published in Wired! (Or something.)

I still love my Xplorer, but my friend's GHWT controller felt extremely similar, too (made by the same peeps, so it makes sense). I'd LOVE one of those "made from wood" Rock Band controllers. That would be particularly awesome

What game would you say it's closest to in terms of gameplay, then?

Summer of Arcade 2009! Are you ready to party?

Wow, it sounds like Trials on the 360 is definitely more fun than on the PC. I'll have to unpack it and give it go! -
Thoroughly enjoying Episode 2, more so than 1 (although I did enjoy it, too). I think I'm near the end now (just got through the blockade) and I kind of don't want it to end! There were a few puzzles that annoyed me a little (only a little): - I totally missed the fishing well... It looked too much like the pointless things from the last episode's jungle maze so I totally ignored it straight away. If you'd made the coupon more noticable or just made the well look a bit different, then I would have paid more attention to it. (Guybrush's hints at trying to find a local fishing spot didn't help, as I did not expect to find it in the jungle!) - Using the locket would have made more sense if it had a distinct shape (like a heart!), but I guess its shape had already been pre-decided in the previous episode... I can't even remember why I tried it now. Total trial and error. Also: "Good LeChuck" is the best idea ever, and an incredibly original and ingenious use of his character! I love the uncomfortable tension between Guybrush and him. In fact the whole triangle between Elaine, Good LeChuck and Guybrush is extremely satisfying... I'm kind of hoping that Elaine leaves both of them at the end of the season!

Missed a little bit here, but just wanted to say that Plan 9 from Outer Space is no way the worst movie ever... it's even close to enjoyable (in a bad way). There's MUCH MUCH worse out there. Hell, I'd consider Grease 2 to be unwatchable.
-
I just caught Moon yesterday and really enjoyed it (although the ending was quite weak... if only they'd come up with something emotionally satisfying it would have been an amazing movie instead of a really good one)... so I think I might just pick this book up based on your recommendation. But it better be good!!!

Two days to go? There seems to be clues along the lines of "Rebels" vs "Royals" or something? Does anyone know any more... I'm actually kind of interested now! Depending on how you answer the poll on the homepage, you either get taken to: http://www.lionhead.com/Followers.aspx or http://www.lionhead.com/Subjects.aspx Judging by the lack of subtly (surprise!), the Royals are the "good guys" (their banner as a beam of light from the heavens!) and the Rebels are "baddies" (their banner is mangy, covered in flies and has bullet holes in it). (It seems that Lionhead are once again going down the black and white route of "good" versus "evil", despite my impassioned plea... damn them.) Also, some people are speculating an RTS... I hope not!

Ooh! Looking forward to it more now. It's weird how TellTale's games get better as the series progresses, I hope TOMI is no different!

It's a deal with a whole new company. I'm not making anything up. Jeez. FYI, they're a sales company for Studio Ghibli. They don't directly release their stuff, they sell it to companies that want to release it in their territory, like Disney. In the UK, for example, a company called Optimum usually releases studio Ghibli stuff. Oddly enough, Disney are releasing Ponyo in France, for example. Disney don't have any exclusive rights to the theatrical distribution of Studio Ghibli stuff, each film is sold on a per film, per territory basis. So NO, John Lasseter isn't just doing his job which was started by The Weinsteins.

Nope, it's out today! (Although I've yet to get an email letting me know.) http://www.telltalegames.com/ (It's on their start page.) I have to say that the story and characters haven't totally grabbed me yet, and I'm utterly confused as to what the point of the Marquis de Singe sequence was... But I haven't completed it yet, so maybe more is revealed. Does anyone else have difficulty understanding what people are saying? :/
-
Yes, this has been discussed elsewhere on the forums, I think. He's a bit of a douche, it seems, but I don't think I'd let it colour my feelings about this game as I assume it's based on one of his "better" novels (not some unbalanced right-wing rant)? (Plus, it probably has nothing to do with his original story anyway!) Awesome Scott Card? Orson Scott Cad more like!

I'm getting towards the end of Episode 1 on TOMI -- just in time for Episode 2 -- what's everyone think of it now they've had time for the excitement to settle? The level of polish is wonderful, but I'm not sure if I'm in love with it, yet...? How is everyone else feeling?

Finally! A film we can ALL agree on! ZW2qxFkcLM0
