Thanks, that's all pretty interesting stuff. I know the "stages of bereavement": "denial and isolation, anger, bargaining, depression and, finally, acceptance" and they seem to hold true from what I've experienced and seen in others. I also read a bit about how our brains let us grieve in stages: We get a pang and it makes us feel sad, then we feel ok for a while -- so our subconscious goes "you're ready for the next piece" and gives us another pang. Kind of feeding us the grief in bite-sized chunks... That also seems mirror my own personal experience. It's the "awkward, bare you soul thread"! Relationships are work, for sure, but I think in a good relationship it feels worth it. I also think that many people stay in relationships just because they're comfortable and familiar, which is understandable but sad.
  2. Shadow Complex

They haven't fixed that yet? I kind of figured it would have been fixed a long time ago.
  3. Life

Aw crap! Hope it gets better soon.

Prepare to be AMAZED... 99E16w0PxCA This should be called 'Middle-Aged Crime Dracula'. (Graham Linehan's description, although I wish it were mine... it's so true!)
  5. Idle Thumb domain updates needed

What?! You mean nobody has bought "youregoingtobeblownaway-ign.com"? I'm surprised!

Yeah, I don't know why Eli Roth is being cast in QT's movies. When I saw QT give a talk in Brixton he said that Roth had to audition for Death Proof just like everyone else... That's ok for one movie, but was he really the best actor he could find for Inglourious, too?! Maybe it's just because everything I've ever heard about the guy paints him as the biggest douche on the planet, but him being in a film is almost enough to make me not want to watch it. Still, it's amazing how Tarantino seems to be able to get superb performances out of people... as long as they're not Brad Pitt or Eli Roth (although I'd warmed to Pitt's performance by the end).
  7. Burn the Rope !!

    Indeed!

Are you trying to say I'm fat!?! (How's that for being like a woman? ) Actually I have been losing weight and, while it does make me feel a little bit better about myself, I'm still not feeling great. I can't bring myself to do any exercise, either (just been eating healthier) -- which I know I MUST do at some point and would probably make me feel better. I just don't seem to have whatever gene it is that makes you do recreational exercise Nachimir: Interesting stuff! I don't feel too limerent right now, I'm just feeling the loss of someone I was extremely close to and who was a big part of my life (she can't handle any contact with me). Plus this sudden change in my lifestyle and not being very good at doing things that are good for me (like exercise and staying in touch with friends) is making me feel depressed. It's interesting to learn more about such feelings, though -- any recommendations? Guess it's all "swings and roundabouts"... or something equally glib. Next month I'll probably be bragging about how happy I am... and everyone else here (who's currently happy) will be miserable! () Kroms: That's horrendous! There's some horrible stories in this world... But also; being left to think she'd died I can't imagine. I should probably add: "seriously" to my original glib suggestion. As in, "if you're seriously questioning your relationship". Or something.
  9. The All New XBox Gamertag Exchange Thread!

I've updated the "easy" reference list on the first page... If I've missed anyone let me know! Likewise, if you're not active on the 350 any more, I'll remove you, too (although I don't think we've lost anyone?).
  10. Movie/TV recommendations

Ha, it's very true...! I'm trying not to learn anything more about it before I inevitably go see it on IMAX in 3D. The Avatar teaser poster looks like it has concept art on it.... Time will tell.
  11. Tales of Monkey Island

I haven't checked, so I'm just being lazy, but is there a way to tell the version number before you download it? That way I could compare it with the version number in the launcher, I guess.Update: The is no thing on the site to let you know what version is available... might be worth adding! (?)
  12. Tales of Monkey Island

Is there a way to "update" games you've downloaded? Or is there a way to discover if there's a new version out?
  13. Life

Well, if it's any help, here's what I learned: If you're questioning whether you should be in a relationship, you probably shouldn't be in it. No idea if that applies to you, though... *shrugs*
  14. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Wow, that was incredibly awesome... Lord only knows how long it took to make! Also, loved the Z0MBIEE game thing.
  15. So.. Batman: Arkham Asylum

I know he's considered a bit of a legend -- I've never heard his take on the Joker before, though... I'm really surprised that that was how he plays him. Very low key.
  16. That was a rollicking good time! I think I'll definitely have to make this more of a regular thing now that I'm all unpacked. Next time hopefully my microphone will work, too. Thanks for a fun evening! Classic moments: - Having spend a full 10 minutes in 1st place, being bombarded by JamesM with hand grenades after being caught up in his cleverly constructed blockade. Well played, sir. - Being driven around by Nevinsky (I think) in Cops and Robbers and watching a bizarre pile up of NPCs that suddenly turned explosive... taking our nemesis Toblix with it, while we just watched in confusion.
  17. A League of their Legends?

    Lol! (What an unfortunately acronym...)
  18. Movie/TV recommendations

Double Indemnity, Mildred Pierce, The Maltese Falcon... love em! I'm not sure where you draw the line, but even Laura or Sunset Boulevard seem to have the same feeling... but are they "film noir"? Guess I should watch that doc and find out!
  19. Tales of Monkey Island

Ooh, I just remembered my favourite moment of the episode (how could I forget)... Loved it!
  20. Burn the Rope !!

Are you kidding?! It's clear that the crown represents Barack Obama's progressive stance and that "quest for" really means "mission to destroy the"... You'll note that the crown can only be accessed from the LEFT while the (undoubtedly a Nazi) hero in this tale starts the game facing to the RIGHT! COINCIDENCE?!? Edit: Nice one, elmuerte.
  21. Brütal Legend overload...!

Those dots on his shirt are not dots at all, but tiny drawings of satan in various metal poses. Probably.
  22. So.. Batman: Arkham Asylum

Yeesh, just watched the trailer... They obviously didn't spend too long on casting the joker, did they? Edit: Yowzers... that was Mark Hamill?! He plays the joker very differently... more like a sinister uncle than a maniacal lunatic.
  23. Tales of Monkey Island

Can't say I had any issues with the arguing pirate puzzle... Just wanted to addm my 2c
  24. Shadow Complex

Good grief. This is the most popular/"helpful" review of Empire from Amazon.com:
  25. Tales of Monkey Island

Well I finished it and I'm REALLY enjoying the story so far. Yes, it's gotten under my skin Blast that we have to wait weeks for the next one! I was so concerned when LeChuck turned human at the beginning of the first game... it just didn't feel right. But when he was finally introduced properly in this one, it just felt perfect and really funny. The whole story and world of this episode was great, and just sucked me in. Thinking about it, I guess it did a really good job of hinting at a larger Carribean with lots of things going on that we don't necessarily have to know about. Good stuff. The pirate hunter character was also really interesting and I'm glad she's going to be in the next one! (She's a fan of Guybrush, but also completely unmanipulatable by him -- superb). Van Winslow is really funny and it wouldn't take much to turn him into a truly unforgettable by just adding a little more dimension to his character (bad example; but maybe he secretly fancies Elaine or something -- or maybe the "stickler" thing is expanded upon. Or maybe he's secretly a millionaire tycoon who loves the idea of being a pirate. Something that could be added without needing a whole storyline for it). It's great to see this series already moving away from fan-pleasing referential stuff into adding excellent new things to the mythology. It's a hard thing to do right, but already there's three excellent and interesting new characters (if you consider Good LeChuck to be new, which I do). It's was also great that this episode allowed you to see Guybrush in a somewhat capable light (thanks to the opening fight), while also being insecure, dorky and dumb (while remaining loveable, of course!). Great balance there! Even the music sounded better in this one, in fact it was really good! (Maybe Michael Land needed to find his MI "feet", as it were?) Loved the ending, too... That was a MASSIVE ! Can't wait for episode 3! (Darn, I hope I don't forget the thread of the story between now and then.) PS - Who did the artwork on the Voodoo Lady's tarot cards? It was awesome!
