Grand Thumb Auto XXX: This is what happens when I don't make a thread
ThunderPeel2001 replied to toblix's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Still, it was a jolly fun evening. "Don't just stand there, he's got a gun!" "Huh?" *blam* -

Yes this is David Simon... yes, that's me right next to him!
ThunderPeel2001 replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Idle Banter
I've also written about Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets on here, too. Did you know that The Corner is also a book (written after Simon and Ed Burns spent a year on a drug corner in Baltimore). I have to say something about the idea that a lot of stuff from the book made its way into The Wire. I read the same thing in a review of the book before I read it, and I was baffled when I eventually finished it: Apart from the "snot-boogie" story and the two cops having a hilarious conversation about being "broken in" by the other one ("thanks for being so gentle...") there wasn't anything from the book in The Wire. (Note: I still haven't watched Series 4 and 5... so maybe there's more?) -

WadjetEye Games 50% off everything! This weekend only!
ThunderPeel2001 replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Video Gaming
Wow, that IS a big difference. I'd forgotten how basic the first games look! You should check out Emerald City Confidential (if you haven't already), the quality is definitely on par with the images you posted. I just read it's $9 on Steam... if not, you can get it here for $9.99, too. -
DMA? Didn't they also do Lemmings? Edit: Yes. Yes, they did. They also did Hired Guns... another amazing Amiga game. I'm surprised to see that I think I've played just about every game they did (ok, so it was only five, but still!).

Professor Layton game as a present for girlfriend?
ThunderPeel2001 replied to Irishjohn's topic in Video Gaming
I would say a definite, emphatic "YES". Professor Layton was the first computer game my ex ever completed. Plus it's a really good game, I'd highly recommend it to anyone. -

Battlestar Galactica (BSG) and spinoffs
ThunderPeel2001 replied to Marek's topic in Movies & Television
Aye. There's two levels of spoilers here... The stuff for people who haven't seen the show (or aren't up to where I am): That needs tagging. But since I'm going to read any replies there, I'm hoping that folks won't respond with any spoilers for me! So yes, even in tags, nothing that might spoil BSG for me (please!). -
They're highly recommended!

Speaking of "off" behaviour, I'm watching Battlestar Galactica for the first time at the moment and -
Hehe, well you were the one who used the word rebel, that's all. Anyhoo, I don't own Splosion Man or Castle Crashers, but I probably should. GTA multi-player is my big thing at the moment, though.

There was definitely a moment in film history when violence became cinematic in and of itself. (I'm guessing it was Peckinpah.) Rodi:

Oh I totally agree. He's a magician first and foremost... but in order to get people to believe in what you're doing you've got to be very clever these days. 100 years ago telling people it was spirits or magic was enough, but people are too cynical for all that now, so it requires a higher level of showmanship. What better than a magician who doesn't believe in magic, and a mind-reader who doesn't believe in ESP. Very good
