The greatest headlines in the world (and other weird news stories)
ThunderPeel2001 replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Idle Banter
Ah. It's from The Larry Sanders Show (which I like to refer to as Curb Your Enthusiam's older, smarter brother). That was his catchphrase... Hey now! -
It's fucking bizarre... I can only assume from that E3 video that Jimmy Fallon is a gamer and has some gaming stuff on his show. So, if my calculations are correct, Mr. Schafer will be in New York waiting for the taping of the show, which will begin at 5.30PM EST. You can only imagine what must be going through his mind... I'd be bricking it about now. Edit: What a build up... He isn't even mentioned in the "Tonight's Guests" blog post. http://www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com/blogs/2009/10/tonights-guest-drew-barrymore-1/ What does that mean, I wonder?

Erm. I'm all for the ethical treatment of animals. Who in their right mind isn't? -
Who's guesting tonight on Jimmy Fallon? HOLY CRAP Edit: Hmmm. Here's an interview from E3... http://www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com/blogs/2009/06/e3-outtakes-jason-sudeikis-interviews-game-designer-tim-schafer/

Del Toro Fights Monkey Farm If only the story was as awesome as it sounds -
I think there's a balance. LOST (for example) better explain everything, dammit! But I also remember reading the names and backstories of all the colourful characters in the famous Star Wars cantina sequence and it just totally killed whatever wonder was left over from being a kid. Some things are much more interesting/powerful when they're not explained. (Guess that's something David Lynch figured out a long time ago! )

Oh, I completely forgot about Hellboy! Don't forget to use my Hellboy reading order if you decide to go down that route

Humm. I think you could well be right. Agree with you on the make-out scene too, that would be a vast improvement! But wait, what's this? You can play as a female in Mass Effect, too? I guess that would mean some "mature" and "progressive" girl-on-girl action, right? *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge* How depressing.

Allow me to return the complement: I loved Black Hole and Chris Ware's stuff is indeed amazing (if a little depressing!). I haven't checked out the others on your list, perhaps I should! I don't think he's been mentioned yet, but David B's work is supposed to be outstanding... I just haven't gotten around to sampling it. I'm halfway through 100 Bullets and I've really enjoyed it so far. Very pulpy, occasionally affecting, but always really well done.

Grand Thumb Auto XXXII: It's that time of year again (Poosday)

Ooh! The powers that be have fixed the thread title! (Thank you!) Can anyone remember what the two band names that were mentioned? They were awesome and I meant to make a note for Rock Band or something, but now I can't remember them. -
The demo is out today for everyone (I think).

Please don't read into my post something that was definitely not there... I'm not saying that girls who shave their heads can't be attractive. Nor am I saying piercings or tattoos are bad. Nor am I saying that girls that sport either of the above shouldn't wear make-up(!). In fact, my personal feelings on all of these things are completely besides the point. I was responding to the criticism that Subject Zero was just a two dimensional "badass" designed to excite teenage boys. My point was simply if that were BioWare's true intention, they would have gone down a more commercialized idea of what beauty is for the average teenage boy (see WET). Instead they appear to have pushed away from this commercial beauty for the purposes of trying to stay true to the character -- a violent, blood thirsty psychopath who adorns her body with tattoos of her "favourite kills". Surely, if there's any honesty in the ME universe, she would not be the type of person to care if she ran out of lipstick. A step in that direction immediately makes me think of this: That was all.

Wow, that's a very specific list of requirements! I don't know what to recommend... but I'm a bit of an Alan Moore snob Generally anything written by Moore will have some greatness to it, IMO. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is excellent, but it won't be what you're expecting (as with all of Moore's stuff) which I see as a good thing! You should also read: Maus by Art Spiegelman (a holocaust survivor's tale). Blankets by Craig Thompson (a personal story by Thompson about a girl he loved). Neither are superhero based, but both are fantastic examples of the art form and how good it can be. For lighter fair, I love Bone by Jeff Smith (gives you a warm fuzzy feeling and is quite epic, too) or Y: The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan (excellent one-liners and a great story to boot).

It might not actually be anywhere near as bad as that trailer makes it look. I think you guys might be overreacting. As I said: If they'd made her character look sexually appealing then I'd totally agree. Instead they threw just about every traditional idea of beauty out the window when designing her: Cut all her hair off. Make her body an ugly mess of tattoos. (Although she does wear make-up... WTF is that all about? ) I can't believe anybody looks at her and goes, "Wow! My ideal woman!". If this character was a guy then he'd be quite interesting, if you ask me... So maybe it's not as bad as the trailer makes it look -- it certainly has the potential of being a million miles better than something as tasteless a WET.

My fun times with Microsoft, faulty Xboxes.

Maybe your body wants you to become Amish? Anyway, here's that consumer rights link showing that, just because your product is out of warranty, doesn't mean the manufacturer doesn't need to fix it... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8253915.stm How do you eat crisps? -

Sounds like it all got sorted then Bit confused as to why your console told you you had a DISC read error on your harddrive...? -
Eh? They released a new episode last night... plus their archives don't really age and there's TONS of stuff to listen to there. Edit: Ah, for some reason I thought you'd just posted that... My bad. Also: Hey! There's a new episode out!

Is Eurogamer open to the general populace?
-
Well obviously Toblix requires a sacrifice for this extra day and so the first two days of October won't exist any more. Obviously...
-
You should pay extra, just to be special.

He's trying to mix it up a bit... Presumably by adding "Toe-blix Day" to the calendar: September 31st.
-
Wow, that really is Riven!

So for any admin with time on their hands. This thread: http://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6808 Should be renamed: Grand Thumb Auto XXXII: It's that time of year again (Tuesday) In order to stop little Toe-blix from crying.

Aw, heck! Invite him/her along! Toeblix: Where have the Roman numerals gone that I attempted to resurrect? :'(
