He's not really been given the opportunities though (has he?). Mood ring says: Intrigued.

Good idea. Then I can go and ask more random strangers if they're Kieron Gillen for you

Idle Thumbs 50: "Farewell, Video Games" or "The Shitty Wizard"
ThunderPeel2001 replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
YES! (Please) -
I'm amazed you noticed the differences in culture so quickly, a lot of people don't notice them even after months of being there. In fact, they say the biggest mistake people make when they go to America is forgetting that it's a different culture (or maybe it's just British people?), so well done. Also, as I've said, LA is famously tough on the newbs (it's not a very welcoming place), but that's perfectly normal and to be expected. The trick is finding the people and places that reflect the things you like (they do exist). That might be a little difficult to do in three months, but you're off to a good start.

Aye. I really like how they toughened up the missions. By the time you got the end of GTAIV it was just too easy (you only tended to fail when you didn't get to a the right trigger point in time). Hint:

Well I used to live in LA and be married to an actress, so I know a little about the entertainment biz... and it's quite a feat to get yourself an internship as a foreigner. (They're not sponsoring you/paying you, are they...?) I have checked out your blog, mistranslated it, and watched your showreel, and all I can say is: Well done and congratulations! I can't understand why you could think that what you're doing could be a mistake... Sure, LA is tough on the newbies (it's the same for everyone) but it's definitely worth the experience... no matter how scary. Enjoy your time in LA, I think it's a wonderful place once you've found the bits that work for you... you just need to start making friends as soon as you can. Also, that's a sweet, sweet pad you got there, too. Nice one. Edit: Now you're in America you need to be aware of the differences in our Yankee friends' culture. This video should give you taster of what you should expect while you're out there: 68Ep9WIc3TY

Oh man, oh man, oh man... I wish I were you. That sounds fascinating. You should write a blog about your experiences there. Can I ask what you do for a living that allows you to consider a career in Hollywood writing? (You make it sound so easy )

Good plan!

Good god, yes. The dramatic moments in this episode sucked huge amounts of balls. which was otherwise excellent, Vomits profusely.

I know! Wow. Nuts. (Thanks for that, Nowak ) Edit: Actually, I just remembered: The doorman asked me for ID as I wandered in... the first that's happened in 10 tens years! I thanked him profusely and he decided he didn't need to see my ID, afterall. Shame Nowak won't show you the picture I took of him... being kissed by BBX (Ben) and Signor (Ian).

Yeah, I really noticed how awesome the music was in the Ballad of Gay Tony... The was one moment in the game where The Doors's song totally synced with what was going on... perfectly. It was incredible and I thought it was done on purpose (wouldn't blame them) but then it turned out to just have randomly been precisely the right track for that particular mission. Very cool.

Yes, where are the pictures, Mister Nowak?

Just click on the QUOTE button and then look at the code used by others... but I believe you can see the icon in the bottom left hand corner of the smilies box when you post a message. Edit: See Thorn's post...

Couldn't you have just taken the Piccadilly line? Sorry to hear you got stuck in an airport, hope you got home ok in the end!
-
No, I love the post-mission summary bit, I think it's a great idea. Not sure if you realise, but once you've finish the main campaign, you get a menu to pick and replay each of the missions and improve your "score". I wish they'd thought of it for the original game, myself. @Patters: Haven't checked the multiplayer so far, but really really enjoying the main missions.

Saw American Werewolf in London for the first time last night at a digitally projected screening... Awesome movie! (If a little dated and clunky.)

Nobody played this yet? Really enjoying it so far. So great to be back in Liberty City. Sad that this is the last time...

It was nowhere near as bad as you might have remembered. The bullhorn was sort of taken away from you because the guy holding it wanted to say something or make a point, but it wasn't because we were all embarrassed listening to you or anything. Dan looked quite moved, IIRC. A very nice moment.

Great to meet you all! Glad to see you got home OK too, SS. God only knows what you did for three hours...? I wish I'd had more chance to speak to more of my fellow Thumbs, but it was fun speaking to those I did. I thought the event itself was really successful and Nachimir did a sterling job, especially considering the technical drawbacks. Although the TV set was broken, so nobody could demo their games, the talks that were given were still surprisingly interesting and inspiring. Just getting all those people together in one place seemed like a wonderful idea. I'm not even connected with the games industry, but even I felt I was networking and getting to know interesting people, and it was great that so many strangers were eager to say hello. I imagine it's incredibly useful for otherwise secluded indie developers to be able to connect like that (although that (generous) guy with a bullhorn telling people to shut up, and listen to what Robin from Plain Sight would do if he had £15 million, might have gotten in the way of that a little towards the end of the evening). One regret: I didn't get to meet Dan Marshall and tell him how much I enjoyed Ben There, Dan That, but I did get to say it to BBX1138 (whose name is BEN, not Dan, as another Ben confusingly suggested), which resulted in a very enjoyable conversation.

Woo! Happy Birthday!

Ahhh! I hope I make before they shut me out.
