  1. Cool music to impress my friends

I'm perplexed by this. What does "know what's going on in music" mean? I have friends who are totally into hip-hop, but they're friends with people who love dance music and I'm friends with all of them and I like alt rock. I think we all know "what's going on", but probably only in our respective fields... I don't think there's any real "everyone thinks this is cool" music, and the biggest convergence of popular tastes is pop -- which you seem to have dismissed (although I do think MIA is on the right side of "good taste/current/pop".) I don't think Guns N' Roses (as much as I could fully recite you any song they ever recorded) would necessarily go down well, but what do I know? So ultimately, I'd suggest just being yourself and playing the music you like... Your mix already sounds good to me. Just my 2 pennies for the advice jar.
  2. Oh God! Can't wait!

There's a big difference between lack of originality and plagiarism.
  3. Cocking the gun

    What about it?
  4. Cocking the gun

    About what?
  5. Movie/TV recommendations

    That's awesome.
  6. Cool music to impress my friends

Evil man! Ben, I can't help but think that a party, that's relying on a playlist hastily put together on a forum made up of gaming geeks, is not going to find music as its strong point... I just can't see it happening (not least because I'm sure we all have completely different tastes). MIA is a good starting point, I think. After that, maybe you could hook up Spotify or something and let the inevitable DJ wannabe take over (and hope he's got the same tastes as your party crowd). Maybe it would help if you described the "vibe" you want? Are we talking "fun and pop-y" or "trendy and poserish"? Are there going to be large amount of being who hate rock music, or are they a rocky crowd? This is really mission impossible, if you ask me! (Although I'm the worst at gauging at crowd's musical tastes, so maybe I should keep out of it.)
  7. Movie/TV recommendations

Yeah, you're a little off base here, IMHO. I think it's more about improving self-confidence and self-esteem, not about telling people that "beauty is the most important thing in the world". I do think it's genuinely a good show because it goes against the commonly sold belief that airbrushed pictures of women in magazines are what constitutes beauty... and anyone who doesn't look like those women should just curl up into a ball and die. That's my take, anyway. Also: I can't believe we're discussing Gok Wan. On a different note, how did your other London interview go, Signor?
  8. Cocking the gun

"Oh yeah, it can sometimes fire itself." Jeez! Great design, guys.
  9. Cocking the gun

Ah, the old "safety is on" trick. Of course the quickest way to check in real life is to simply pull the trigger...
  10. Cocking the gun

*slaps forehead* Of course! I can't believe I forgot about that and the inevitable "count to three". You'd think I'd never seen an action movie.
  11. Movie/TV recommendations

Hmmm... Maybe you just saw a bad episode or something?
  12. [Blank] say the darndest things

You know things have gotten bad when somebody could easily lampoon him quite successfully.

To suddenly flip things back, I'd have to say that I totally disagree and think he's actually doing a lot of good. So many women have poor self-images, when they really don't need to.
  14. Cocking the gun

Lol! This thread is amazing. I have to wonder, where do you go once you've cocked your gun? You've raised the tension as high as it can go. How do you say, "look, I've proven I'm serious by cocking the gun, but now I'm really serious". What can you do? Wave it threateningly? Say things like "I'm beginning to pull on the trigger now! Really!". Also, seeing as cocking the gun is utterly pointless ("Aha! Now I don't have to pull the trigger quite as hard when I want to kill you!") doesn't it really indicate that the person is really bluffing? If they we're really going to kill you, they'd just pull the trigger, instead they're trying to prove that they want to kill you, thereby simultaneous proving that they actually want you alive. So if somebody cocks their gun at you, Toblix, (and providing it isn't a semi-automatic), I'd suggest just taking a big sigh of relief and doing your best to make friends with them before they change their mind.

Pick a real life story, create your own headlines... I'm sure there's some "comedy gold" to be mined here, even if my suggestion below, isn't. Equalizer Neutralized Come on, I know you can do better...

  17. Dragon Age

and This is confusing. So are you saying you value good writing as a really important aspect to the game you want to buy, or are you saying that you really don't care because you're just going to skip all the dialogue anyway?

  20. Life

That sounds like quite an interesting experiment.
  21. Of course, I just meant that the fact that the city of Jerusalem had supposedly been resurrected, circa 1191, was a pretty intriguing thing that made me want to play the game (and thanks to Miffy's comment, maybe I will). In fact, I'd LOVE to see a 100% historically accurate game from the middle-ages, or some other interesting time period. I'd personally find that really fascinating... but that isn't to say that GTA would be any better if it was based around a real city - it wouldn't, IMHO.
  22. Why spoil when you can soil?

    Bleurgh
  23. I totally understand what you mean, I hope they take the interesting elements of the situation to create something exciting and not just... something we've seen 100 times before, but this time in black and white with old cars. I'd LOVE to spend some time in some historically accurate eras, but I don't think any game has ever done one justice. (I was so excited by the fact that Asses Creed supposedly replicated Jerusalem as closely and accurately as possible -- but then I heard the gameplay itself was pretty generic and uninteresting (is this right?).)
