You can download a portable version of System Shock if you Google it. The project has been going for many years and apparently has not been met with any legal objections. I disagree with Tycho's recommendation, though. SS1 is very difficult to get into, even with mouse-look. Just mod the game's .ini file and reduce spawning. That way you can explore the environments without having to worry too much about degradation.

OMG. That Dead Island thing is absolutely horrendous. Their justification is totally messed up, too: "“Dead Island’s grotesque take on an iconic Roman marble torso sculpture.”" Am I wrong or did the ancient Roman's only tend to sculpt men? I'm sure I read that somewhere. Plus, it's not like they just sculpted torsos -- they're just the bits that haven't been lost over time. On a related note, here's possibly the most offensive greeting card ever made:

America has some weird issues with guns. In fact, it's possibly the weirdest issue they have. You can talk about inherent racism, poor school systems, corrupt businesses, sexism, homophobia, the government (just about), and everything is fine. Mention gun control and some folks get REALLY upset VERY quickly. It's a strange thing that's unique to America (in my experience, at least). I've learned not to get involved in gun control debates because of this. "A few pro-gun people are running to the old trope about guns not being evil, just people who use them to kill. So what's the magic solution to keep guns out of the hands of the insane people? If you insist that we all have access to guns, you are insisting that we include the sane as well as the insane -- because we don't yet know how to install a blinking red light on the crazy people, or the ones who are sane today and will be crazy tomorrow. Which means there will always be murder by guns. And these losses are therefore in service of the right to have guns, which we have decided is more important than a few kids now and then."

I think the whole game system is horribly unbalanced -- I switched off re-spawning when I played it, which just made it a whole lot more fun to play. You should install the texture pack, too.

Attacking the makers is pointless. Even if I was going to try and tackle those who made violent movies, I'd start with the torture porn genre. Tarantino may make violent movies, but they're Citizen Kane compared to things like Human Centipede! He actually has characters, and a plot, and more often than not, a reason for the violence that isn't just shock value. Ugh. What's worse is that most of the papers seem to have taken Channel 4 news's side. I don't understand how anyone can watch that video and not think Guru-Murthy is trying to provoke Tarantino into doing exactly what he does.
