  1. What happens when my inbox is full?

I have space for 2 more messages! Who will they be from? What will they say? The tension is palpable.
  2. Red Dead Redemption

I have no idea. I just know I couldn't play it any more after that.
  3. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

    Holy crap.
  4. Bargains

Yeah, it's really addictive. It's been great coming here and seeing the crazy bargains.
  5. Movie/TV recommendations

Saw A Serious Man last night and loved it. Wonderful. (Although I can imagine 99% of the audience thinking it was boring with no story -- it IS very low key and doesn't have a traditional plot and ends abruptly and not much happens -- but I loved it! )
  6. Clients from Hell

This is very true from a designer's point of view... http://theoatmeal.com/comics/design_hell It'd be funny to see it from the client's.
  7. Red Dead Redemption

From who? I can't imagine anyone enjoying Midnight Club: LA. When a game is so badly balanced that the makers are forced to issue a patch to make it playable, then you can be certain of two things: One, the game was not properly tested before release and secondly, that you can't trust any reviews that claimed the game was "great fun". It has, without doubt, the worst example of rubber banding I've ever seen in a racing game. Whether you win a race or not is can be entirely down to the last 10 seconds, no matter how perfectly you've driven through the rest of the race... and this is after the game-balancing patch has been applied. And, on some "special" occasions, you apparently can't win, no matter what... For example: You're neck and neck for first place, both going full pelt on the final straight. It's a clear road, you smile inwardly, "it's in the bag". You reach for the nitros boost you've been saving the whole race for such an occasion. "So long, sucker!" Blam! Fire shoots out of your exhaust and you're suddenly propelled at speeds faster than any man should travel... But something is wrong. You look out your side window and see your opponent is keeping pace with you, no, scratch that... he's over-taking you. WITHOUT THE USE OF NITROS. As your opponent squeaks across the finish line, just ahead of you, your controller finds itself hurtling towards the other side of the room, and you swear to yourself that you'll never play such a shit game again.
  8. Dodgem Logic

Already picked up two copies last week (yes, I'm a sad AM fan). I really enjoyed it. I think it's still got some way to go before it's completely kicking ass, but I really enjoyed the articles -- and probably enjoyed Moore's the least (which is saying something). It's cool that he's getting to run his own underground magazine now. Good stuff.
  9. Red Dead Redemption

Been keeping my eyes on this. Looks promising. My only concern is that it's being developed by the same team who created the steaming pile of turd that is Midnight Club: Los Angeles (yes, I hate that game so much).
  10. Mother wins ban on violent porn

Yuk. I can't believe some newb resurrected this thread. Please go away! (The thread, not the newb.)
  11. Life

Wow, sounds like a good day! What's this about "being on week's notice"? What does that mean?
  12. 7 hours is more than enough time to play GTA. I doubt we'll play for longer than 2, maybe 2.5 hours. That still gives you around 5 hours for all that sleeping/eating/showering malarkey.
  13. Black Friday Deals

There seems to be a real lack of credible professional criticism these days (either that or I'm looking in the wrong places). I was just recently thinking of how I was spoiled by Amiga Power back in the day. These days there isn't a voice I feel I can trust like I did them (even if I didn't always agree).
  14. Movie/TV recommendations

Sounds like I should give it a spin!
  15. Videogames for very young children

Very good! (I wouldn't be surprised if they'd wanted to go with Maria from the outset, lol.) How about those Putt Putt adventure games that Ron Gilbert/Dave Grossman made? They're for youngsters aren't they?
  16. Black Friday Deals

Holy crap that's some awesome stuff... If only they allowed us Europeans to buy them for that cheap.
  17. Movie/TV recommendations

I think Synthetic would argue that they've never made a good movie. The reviews for UP said (apart from the first 10 minutes) that it was a pretty average, so I knew what to expect going in. It's certainly not a Pixar that I'd bother to watch again, but it wasn't terrible. Just average. Considering their past run, I'd quite happily forgive them if they never made a good movie ever again.
  18. Old Games That Hold Up...Or Don't

The hacks on that site made the game unstable for me.... Worth a shot, though. Just keep saving!
  19. Powerless Wire

Been seeing adverts for this everywhere and I keep forgetting to post the link... http://www.powermat.com/ It's here!
  20. Can you trust the "Can You Run It?" site?

Damn, that's a bit sucky. That site sounds like a great idea, shame it's giving such poor results back. I wonder if they just take the publisher's spec and run a pass on your system...? It would be better to do a bunch of tests themselves, surely? When it said you could run Arkham, was it on "minimum" or "recommended"? If it was on "minimum", I think it's fair that you have to disable everything. Also, I'm not sure why Vista's ranking system never took off. Seemed like a good idea to me :-/
  21. Battlestar Galactica (BSG) and spinoffs

That's cool. I have to say, though, that the "mystical bullshit" was part of the show from the very beginning... As soon as Hmm. I do wonder if the person who turned me on to the show is to blame for me being so frustrated with the first two seasons... ?
  22. Videogames for very young children

You never played Super Maria World? Man, you totally gots to get it, now!
  23. Battlestar Galactica (BSG) and spinoffs

I can't wrap my head around the idea that anyone could have not found the first two seasons dull, predictable and repetitive... "Starbuck's completely off the rails!" "Yeah, but she's the best damned pilot we've got, dammit!", over and over. Aside from the atmosphere and "realism" (which was great), it was cookie-cutter TV. "Don't worry folks, everyone will survive and be back in their starting positions at the end of the episode, ready for next week's exciting instalment.. when we won't reveal anything more about the Cylons". I'm surprised I made it through them all, to be honest... but I know there's folks who think that the first two TV seasons were amazing... I guess I'm just not one of them Of course, on the flip side, I was sold on the show by a guy who kept going on about how it "all perfectly ties together"... so I kept waiting for big reveals that never came. Eventually I settled into the groove and just enjoyed it, and thankfully it the writers started doing some interesting stuff. Thank the gods for seasons three and four... where the show found something interesting to say and do. And what a perfect ending (ignoring the slightly cheesy bits of the conceit). Awesome.
  24. Battlestar Galactica (BSG) and spinoffs

Woo! I just finished Battlestar Galactica! I'm glad to say that after slogging it through the dull first two seasons it was totally worth it. What a wonderful and satisfying ending.
  25. audiosurf: Holy funk!

That's news to me. Is there even a "recommend track" function in the game? I know there's a scoreboard, but frankly, it's just reading the name/track of the MP3, which surely means it's easy to game? (Just find a track you're good at and rename it.) You should pick it up and see what you think. It might have improved given what people are saying about strategy. (Also re: Lumines -- I checked a few online videos out and apparently the single strategy in the game is so connect as many coloured squares together as you can. No, I don't mean blocks, I mean just getting them to be as separated as possible -- there's a special block that comes along that wipes out adjoining blocks of the same colour, which apparently equals combo city.)
