  1. Life

I hate anything with more than four legs. Period.
  2. Piracy has hit a new low....

Well said, sir! Growing up in the 80s, piracy was almost legal. Almost. (As in, it wasn't, but it was very prevalent, and done by everyone. Even your Mum. Anyone remember tape to tape?) Anyway, I feel kind of sad that the younger generation have only grown up with consoles. I'm sure I would have died from boredom without my gigantic copied Amiga game collection as I grew up. But these days I have money (well a bit) and I'd generally rather own the original simply because of, as Nachimir rightly said, ease. I can't be bothered with CDs anymore, but thanks to Zune subscriptions and my eMusic account it's very easy for me to legally get whatever music I want to listen to. DVDs are so cheap now that I'll happily pick up whatever film I want to watch, or just rent it through LoveFilm. Games are obscenely expensive, but I don't mind to much because I refuse to buy them at full price -- and I'm happy to wait until they come down in price. But the idea that people should feel guilty for pirating something is ridiculous to me. Maybe it's because I grew up in the late 8-bit/early 16-bit era, with tape to tape, XCopy etc. etc. I imagine that, in truth, if you had the money, you'd buy it. That's always been the case for me, and it's also the case for every pirate I know. I suppose there might be some evil millionaire locked away somewhere who takes great pleasure in not paying for anything, but that's not what I know. The REAL evil twats, IMO, are those that SELL pirated goods. These people ARE irrefutably stealing from copyright holders, taking money destined for them and diverting it elsewhere, profiting from other people's hard work. That I cannot abide, and those people should feel extremely guilty. The worthless gits.
  3. GTA 60 Take 2 They own the licence.

    Bah. I will return...
  4. Movie/TV recommendations

"lovely"? :-/ Well, there's the obvious roll call of fantastic 80s sci-fi movies: RoboCop, Terminator (and 2), Aliens, Predator (and 2). If you haven't seen these, you've definitely overlooked the classics. I guess there's also Universal Soldier. Hmmm. Not sure I'd recommend anything beyond that. What did you think of Escape from LA? I haven't seen it myself, and I watched Escape from NY straight after Chinatown -- it seemed unbelievably bad after watching that. I'm sure if I'd watched it after watching Dark Star (which I love) it would have seemed like a masterpiece, though.
  5. Piracy has hit a new low....

    Jesus.
  6. I did it! Now what?!

Wow, congrats. I didn't think such a thing was actually possible. Now you must enjoy not having a backlog!
  7. Idle Thumbs London meet?

I'm always happening. Whereever I am. Just give me a time and date and a place, and I'll be happening there, too. What days are good for everyone? I'm pretty much good for any time, unless I manage to get to Cannes, in which case Tues and Weds will be out.
  8. Life

Friends in the right places... I still desperately want to go. Maybe I can swing it.... maybe!
  9. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

    She said yes!
  10. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Well, she's a) hot, talented and c) funny. That's all fine and good, but when I found out she wrote every episode too, that's when I realised that she must become my wife. Immediately.
  11. See Ben & Dan's Privates here!

Good god, that's quite a concept for a game. Wow. Never mind Sensible's "shocking" Sex, Drugs and Rock N' Roll... that seems mild compared to this. I feel proud to be mildly acquainted with its makers.
  12. Post your face!

    Job interviews.
  13. Life

I'm unlikely to be able to get accreditation in the future. This year I can (almost) guarantee it.
  14. Piracy has hit a new low....

As an aside: The proceeds do NOT go to charity. It is completely misleading to say so. The person buying the games has the choice to donate some money to charity during the buying process. That's not the same as proceeds going to charity. It might also be worth mentioning that the only charities you can donate to are Child's Play and the EFF. How important you consider these charities will obviously vary from person to person (they may not even do any work in your country). In 7 days Wolfire collected $1,123,645. 30% of which went to the above two charities. I just made my donation
  15. General Video Game Deals Thread

I never understood why this game got any good reviews... It's far too easy, far too repetitive and, well, that's enough of a reason to not like it. Or at least, let down by it.
  16. General Video Game Deals Thread

    Yes it will.
  17. Life

Ugh. I really want to go to Cannes this year, but I'm not convinced I can afford it. Even sleeping on my friend's hotel floor. I've always wanted to go and this could be my last chance... *whinge*
  18. Alan Wake

I've seen the first three. It's nowhere near as good as Twin Peaks, but it's also much better than I was expecting (I was expecting total dreck). It doesn't have the subtly, intelligence or genuine humour of TP, but it made me jump once or twice
  19. Movie/TV recommendations

What's with all the "I watched movie X" posts? Reviews, people, we want REVIEWS. ..."I watched movie X and it sucks/was ok/I loved it"
  20. Alan Wake

Twin Peaks is a great show, I love it. It's that Alan Wake just SO Twin Peaks that it's almost TOO like Twin Peaks... or it's at least worth discussing. Anyone seen the Alan Wake "TV show" that's currently playing on XBL?
  21. Alan Wake

Sorry, I haven't read the entire thread, but has anyone mentioned Twin Peaks yet? Slightly influenced by, no?
  22. Idle Thumbs London meet?

Whereever, whenever... I'll be there! (Unless I can't make it.) I'm sure there's other London Thumbs that have yet to make an appearance in this thread.
  23. Piracy has hit a new low....

Well, in all I don't believe for a second that the people have pirated this did so because they're evil. Someone posts a link to some free games. Woot. It works! Chances are that willful ignorance played a large part in such cases, rather than a desire to steal from charities. I imagine that the kids on 4chan don't have credit cards, PayPal accounts or, indeed, any money. And their parents don't believe they need any more games, either.
  24. GTA 60 Take 2 They own the licence.

You all should be ashamed of yourselves!
  25. Piracy has hit a new low....

Would be for me, I often used to download games I bought when at my gf's for the weekend. I'm sure there's plenty of others who do the same.
