  1. Movie/TV recommendations

Season 2 is incredibly awesome. I remember getting really caught up in it.
  2. Monkey Island 2: SE

Yes, yes, yes!!! I wish someone would make this, but as Gerbil says, no need for any re-interpretation, I think. I wonder if Schafer kept a copy of the assets. I have the feeling it's the type of thing he might do...
  3. Monkey Island 2: SE

Apologies for putting words in your mouth, you didn't say they'd ruined anything. But I think Synthetic Gerbil made a very good case for why it would actually be quite difficult to do. I think Super Street Fighter II HD is a great example of how simply upping the resolution and staying absolutely true to the original artwork can look very stiff and jerky. Also, the fact that their animations seem to mostly come from 3D models isn't very promising, either. I just don't think they've got the necessarily animation skills in house at the moment (even if the background art skills in MI2:SE has improved massively over the first SE). So, did you like the new cover art, then?
  4. Monkey Island 2: SE

Developer commentary would be great, yes (even if I seem to sense antagonism between Grossman and Schafer -- am I imagining it?). But... A contextual UI would be nice, but it's not essential, and the developers seem to be keen on moving backwards in terms of UI design (although the MI2: SE has a much better interface than the first, they don't seem to want to use the obvious choice: CMI's). Voice acting is, of course, already 100% there for DOTT. Not sure why that would need to be changed. As with the "updated artwork", I don't think anyone would be happy with DOTT's wonderful, deliberate and controlled style being possibly being sullied by LucasArts Singapore. Your assertion that it's only the lower-quality pixel work that was ruined by the new LucasArts doesn't really hold any water when you look at their cover artwork they've made so far.
  5. Red Dead Redemption

    Wheee!
  6. Red Dead Redemption

I wasn't calling him bonkers, I was calling the situation where a new XBox was more economically viable that a USB dongle, bonkers.
  7. Monkey Island 2: SE

This is definitely a massive improvement over the original SE, I heartily recommend picking it up!
  8. Red Dead Redemption

    Bonkers!
  9. Red Dead Redemption

Why will you have to wait until you've got a Slim 360?
  10. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Hehe. I've listened to it lots of times, too. I even find myself humming it. Oh dear! Edit: Damn. I just listened to it another three times because of your post. Sooo good.
  11. Movie/TV recommendations

Stewart Lee does a great dismantling of Top Gear in "Please Ask For A Milder Comedian".
  12. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

OMG. *BREAKS DOWN* I love the auto-tuned version, too
  13. Movie/TV recommendations

I hope Flanagan's response was: "It's going to be a long day."
  14. Summer Steam Sale

I didn't buy ANYTHING*! (I'm saving money for my holiday -- very pleased with myself! ) * I did buy Monkey Island 2, though.
  15. Life

    Lol. Probably for the best
  16. The All New XBox Gamertag Exchange Thread!

    Yes it is!
  17. Movie/TV recommendations

    I know, it's heart-breaking. I couldn't watch much of Season2 or any of Season 3.
  18. Movie/TV recommendations

Didn't you only just watch that movie...? Anyhoo, anyone been watching IT Crowd 4? It's funny, but I think it's gone a little too far this season... Kind of like Father Ted did in season 3, and Black Books did in season 2/3. Still early on, though, and, as I said, funny (Although Linehan does seem to have some issues with women: Feminists are always portrayed rather poorly in his shows.)
  19. The All New XBox Gamertag Exchange Thread!

    Your IT avatar scares me.
  20. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Wow, it sure was. I think the answer is: Hallucinogens! It's hard to see how big that was in that video, but I have a feeling it was quite some distance away, which was probably lost in translation. Something oddly profound about that video. I loved it!
  21. Recently completed video games

Lol. Very true. I think the problem was that we'd all played GTAIV so much by the time Ballad was released that even the hardest IV levels were now a cakewalk... So they upped everything - TO THE MAX! It seems they also took the opportunity to throw in as many insane stunts as they possibly could, seeing as it was their last trip through Liberty City, which I was totally onboard for: They've done the "realistic" (ahem) thing, now they could go a bit OTT for some fun. I felt the entire thing was a perfect ending to a great experience, and the idea of replaying missions to improve your score was good, too. I think I'd like to see Houser and company not be restrained by the "gritty urban" world they clearly know little about, and try something new. I guess it's a hard balance though, because wherever they set a game, you're still going to be controlling a mass-murdering psychopath (in missions, at least), and they're still going to have to try and ingratiate the player to that character. So there's always going to be a problem balancing realism with entertainment. Hmm. Still waiting to check out Red Dead Redemption, though. I hope the characterisation is as strong as GTAIV's. Plus, I guess you can have a little more leeway in the "brutal" old West, and still think of yourself as a "good" guy even after shooting a bus load of people.
  22. Life

Useful: Yes, yes. Put aside the inevitable derisive comments. It seriously helped me understand my ex-ex's point of view when we had massive arguments, and where the miscommunication stemmed from. Not useful: Calling women witches.
  23. Movie/TV recommendations

Yes! Well done. I remember the bit where they're singing "Hit the Road Jack" in the car.
