I know, but I was worried that Forbin would be likely to assume that ALL my posts were jokes...
-
I'm still playing Fallout 3, too. I really want to complete it, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I few months back I went all out, playing it for nearly an entire weekend, and by the end, feeling as though I hadn't made much progress, I was utterly fed up with it. Not sure I can be bothered with any more 100 hour games :-/

I have been serious for many of my posts, of course, so saying I haven't will only confuse things, but as you quite rightly pointed out: Indifference != hate. Forbin, I did explicitly state that in one of my posts: "They're not games I love or hate. I just don't care about them." So anyways, back to the game itself. Have you actually gotten around to playing it yet, Mr Forbin? The proof, as they say, is in the pudding... Is it any good?

Is that true? Where did you hear it? I'be heard similar things about other famous people over the years (the coke head bit, not the grumpy bit

Ha! That's just what I was complaining about on the previous page in response to Nachmir's post. Relationships are never like how they appear on TV, well most TV. In reality they're usually a million times more complicated and never go smoothly. Sounds like quite a worthwhile show, actually. How did you end up appearing, if you don't mind me asking?
-
You were interviewed by Charlie Brooker? That's pretty awesome. I do get the impression that he's a nice guy underneath "grumpy" exterior, which makes him infinitely more likeable. What was he asking you about?
-
You're absolutely right. I can't hide it any longer. There's no point in pretending. I just really, really don't like him. I don't know why. Maybe it's because he's a bit pudgy. Maybe it's because his last name begins with a 'G'. I JUST DON'T KNOW. I only know that I wish Ron Gilbert would just.... GO AWAY FOREVER!!! *runs crying from the room*
-
So Brutal Legend 2 was a go, then? I wonder what went wrong? I bet a sequel would actually be pretty awesome, as I think they'd do a better job this time around, having learned from their mistakes in the first one.

I think he knows. Every post on his blog is followed by "I want Death Spank on the PC or I'm not buying it!!!" type posts. It's been going on like this for months. You make a great point though: If he's just messing people around (and this IS the guy who gave us THAT ending for MI2 -- and he still enjoys not telling everyone about it) then he's shooting himself in the foot, as many people are holding out for it.

WHAT'S WITH ALL THE TIM AND DAVE HATE??!?!?!!!1111
-
Yeah, I dislike that article because it ignores a ton of other fourth-wall/anachronistic stuff that's in all the games. For example: It's funny that they have a Grog machine with Grog Lite, Diet Grog, Cherry Grog, etc. It's not a clue. In MI2 Guybrush says things like (when trying to open the telescope) "This isn't Monkey 1" and (when looking at the waterfall pump) "What's this doing in a pirate game?". In order for the "it's all a child's fantasy" idea to work you have to deliberately ignore these statements that suggest it's just a game, but then take other things very literally. So yeah, that just doesn't work for me. I honestly think the ending of MI2 was just made to be as deliberately as confusing/messed up as possible.

Got here too late to read this... but there must be some better movies out there to see. I really watch to watch Inception, for instance.

What with all the Ron Gilbert hate?!
-
That's not hate, it's a fact. I don't care if "Putt Putt Joins the Parade", or what "Fatty Bear's Birthday Surprise" is, or if "Freddi Fish Gets Flushed Down the Toilet". They're not games I love or hate. I just don't care about them. To everyone else: Very glad to hear the positive reactions! Looking forward to playing it now... I think it sounds like something I'll enjoy. Excellent!
-
The reviews seem quite unanimous: Fun world, but not that much fun to play. I'll still pick it up... although I wish a Thumb had played it. Quite keen to hear someone's thoughts!
-
This guy keeps popping into my world. Apparently I need to watch his films.
-
Lol! You just sounded, you know, a teeny bit "new agey" in your post. I was just being silly, no need to feel like a douche in any way.
-
That's when THIS happens!

Not sure why it's harsh... it's absolutely factually true. Gilbert has been riding the Monkey Island train for far too long. I can understand he might have been worried that whatever he came out with would never measure up to fanboy memories of Monkey Island (it's even a notion that's explored in MI2)... but it's been FAR too long. By comparison, I can't imagine Tim Schafer saying away from games for very long. I have a feeling he'd explode without some creative outlet. Gilbert has been happily coasting along on his MI credits for nearly 20 years now (giving talks and doing interviews, etc). I don't say any of this with any malice or hate for the man, though. I hope Death Spank is excellent, and I'm keen on playing it. But whereas I once would have bought anything with Gilbert's name on it, time has changed things, and I've realised that Grossman and Schafer are both extremely talented guys, too. I'm still very interested in people's thoughts on Death Spank, and I'm kind of surprised it isn't more of a big deal...? It is, after all, the first game (for adults) from RG in a very long time! Has anyone with a PS3 played it yet?

Eep. That doesn't sound like fun at all. Why must relationships be nothing like they're like on TV? It's seems so unfair. And what a very crappy situation. It's hard to believe that there are people out there who could be quite happy to marry someone who wasn't religious, but who also don't believe in sex before marriage... Ultimately very sad for both of you
-
Have you been watching that Double Rainbow video again?
-
Sad to say, but I'm gonna wait for the reviews on this one. Ron Gilbert hasn't created a game I've cared about in nearly 20 years, and the last time he did, he had help from Tim Schafer... (and Dave Grossman). When is this released again?
-
Heh. I'm glad I'm not the only one here, although I think I dislike it for slightly different reasons. It can be funny and interesting, I admit, but it's still irritating to me. I particularly enjoy Stewart Lee's take on the show.

Actually it's supposed to be an hour's worth. I'd still recommend picking it up, even for those who recently completed it. 1: It's incredibly cheap and 2: There's lots of never-before-seen original Purcell/Chan artwork to unlock.
