It's a different code, not the same. My biggest complaints are the fact that Nico's puzzles are just one screen Professor Leyton style ones. Still, I do enjoy such puzzles, so it's not a massive complaint. I also don't like the pre-rendered 3D animation of the new characters, it really doesn't look as good as the original hand-drawn stuff. The new dialogue definitely sounds clearer, so far, not sure why you mean about the kid at the pub as I haven't gotten there yet. The new parts are definitely a little rough around the edges, but I still think they're good. As for which is better? I don't think they add or remove that much from the game (so far). Maybe as I get further on they'll add more.

Actually, I completely agree with you. Some things are better expressed in certain mediums, and I think he should be applauded for trying to do it with games. I don't think anyone is saying "Braid failed at being art, give it up already" (at least, I hope they're not). I think they're just offering an honest assessment of what he's done so far (and how he's talked about it). I certainly don't want him to give up or stop trying, I just want him to improve. The reason why I think he's pretentious is because (and here is the important bit): Braid was nowhere near as effective at evoking the artistic intentions that he apparently thinks it was. If he acknowledged its failures to capture emotions and themes with a mixture of prose and gameplay, then he would come across better, I think, but instead he seems quite convinced of its success. Unfortunately (to me at least), it was a vague mish-mash of snippets that didn't cohesively say anything. (There were moments of success, definitely. The bit at the end provoked a strong reaction in me, at least, which was great.) Don't get me wrong, I LOVED LOVED LOVED Braid. I read all the texts. I even printed them out and studied them, and tried to tie them into the gameplay mechanics of each world, trying to find a satisfactory and unifying deeper meaning. But there wasn't one... not a satisfactory one, and if I had to look THAT hard and still couldn't see it, then I think he failed anyway... but guess what: That's absolutely 100% fine. It was still a great experience. The problem comes when people say, "So, that didn't really work as well as you hoped it would. Even if you can't put the entire thing into words, what were the themes or emotions you were trying say something about?" If you respond: "Trying to explain it would be like trying to squeeze water in my fist." You're pretentious. That's my 2c, anyway. But hell, I really don't want him to give up, and I wish there were more people like him trying to do something different, create art, whatever. Just something challenging and unique (And yes, I do admit that he comes across as a nice guy in his blog.)

This is the guy who said he couldn't possibly describe what Braid was about. It would be literally impossible for him to do so. The only way he could get across the message in Braid was to make Braid. A leeetle bit pretentious, there.

The guy is generally considered pretentious..... because that's how he comes across in interviews. Also, see: Braid. Wonderful, WONDERFUL game, but it's awfully pretentious. I still respect him though, and cannot wait for The Witness

And why wouldn't you want to watch it?

Omg! We can only hope, lol. I read a quote from Bob Gale where he explained that it would be released, but only when it wouldn't affect Stoltz. Cool!

Wow. Good plan It's kind of scary how it can take near misses to do something that really sounds quite sensible, but most people don't bother with. (I experienced something similar when I ran across the road once... now I never rush. Ever.)

One day we'll get to see his full performance (they shot a LOT, almost the entire film), but this clip, from the new Bluray set, is the most they've released so far. I think you can see, even in these silent clips that he played it VERY differently to Fox. Very intensely.

Hey Ben, did you this see this?

I know this is an odd thing to ask on video game forum but... Is anyone else getting tired of gaming? "Wut?!", I hear you mutter. Well, lately I just haven't been playing any games at all. My XBox is getting dusty, my PC gaming rig rarely gets turned on. I haven't felt the need to buy a DS or PSP, or even a PS3. I have an old PS2 I use for watching DVDs... What little gaming I do is very "casual" (*dun dun duuun!*) and there's even been very little of that, recently. (Although, oddly, I'm still interested in what's happening in the gaming world itself, news, etc.) Is it just me? Has anyone else lost their gaming mojo? Or had a mojo drought, and then had it come back? Am I alone in not wanting to invest 100 hours, or even 40 hours, of my life developing a new (pointless) skill, exploring a new world? I just can't bring myself to start something new at the moment... Is it my age (32)? Have I grown tired of games? Is it just a temporary blip? Is it some other factor in my life? Is it time for a trial separation? Edit: Fixed my grammar - Thanks, Patters! ;D

Kroms, you definitely have some weird movie taste! That's cool, though. Life of Brian, while not flawless, has so much great stuff in it that it transcends its flaws very easily. I wouldn't so much recommend it, as to say it's ESSENTIAL.

Annoying hipsters*, average song, all made using iPhones... not a bad video! NAllFWSl998 (There shouldn't have been so many cuts, it made it look fake.) * - Yes, even I'm jumping on the band wagon. *sigh*

Difficulty in games.. is it that difficult to understand?

Damn, I meant to write Super Mario WORLD. -
Congrats Mr. Cole! Those BTTF headlines are great to read... not sure what their obsession with "Queen Diana" was, though, she was never ever ever going to be Queen.

So I'm sure everyone has already seen this... http://ealouse.wordpress.com/ Interesting rant that's ultimately meaningless.

Yeah, not only that but they look terrible... It's amazing what they can get away with on camera. When I was at Universal Studios this year they had some of the hoverboard props and they looked equally as bad -- I mean REALLY bad. Just a block of wood with some paint on them. But in the film they look great. So weird.

I really wish they'd had a difficulty level in Super Mario Bros. Oh wait, no I don't, because that was an extremely well balanced game with a perfect difficulty curve. (Sorry, I'm sure that wasn't helpful to the discussion in any way, I just know that some great games didn't need them, but I appreciate that some do.) -

I believe that's some games, surely? Most just up energy/reduce damage don't they? Crysis is the only game I heard of them reducing AI in easier modes. -

I totally agree (although Patters makes good points for exceptions). This ranks alongside QuickSaves! (Yes, I once got a letter published on Digitizer complaining about this issue, and I still believe it's true: The quicksave is simply a lazy way of not having figure out how long it should be until the next save point... that used to be a really enjoyable challenge in games ) It also ranks alongside PC games that give you a million graphical sliders, rather than figuring out what settings would work best for you, and then giving you the sliders... if you need them. Damned cheap publishers. -
Excuse me for posting this: I've been diagnosed as having low iron levels in my blood. Not a huge deal. In fact, I'm quite excited at the thought of having more energy and being able to concentrate longer. Woot. I'm not sure exactly HOW low my iron levels are (all I can remember is that "normal" was somewhere between "15 and xx" and my levels where 5 - ferrite serum levels, I think), but my doc has put me on three 322mg Ferrous Fumerate tablets a day (each containing 100mg of elemental iron). My concern is this: On the back of the box it says, "Dosage: One tablet per day. In severe cases two tablets per day." It also states that if you go over this you should go to casualty (the emergency room) immediately. I'm on THREE. Is my case beyond severe? :-/ I've looked around online and I can't find anyone else saying they've been told to take as much iron as me (most people seem concerned about being asked to take two tablets of similar strength). There's no other factors involved in my doctor's decision, just the results of this blood test (I'm new at the surgery and have no prior health issues). As I'm a bit of a worry-wort, I just was hoping someone here might be able to tell me more about what's going on. Are my levels really beyond severe? Is my dose as Herculean as it sounds to my layman brain? I don't know any doctors to ask in real life, and I don't want to make an appointment with my existing doctor just to say, "are you sure you know what you're doing?" (I'm guessing doctors don't like that), so I thought I'd throw it out here. (I did ask my pharmacist, but they just said, "the doctor must think you need it".) Thanks for any information based on similar experiences/proper doctorial advice/soothing words. I'd be happy to hear that I'm concerned about nothing Idle Thumbs: Now offering free medical advice.
