  1. WTF is Telltale's new game?

I love how I don't have an email from TellTale telling me that the game I've already bought it available for download. *grumble* *grumble* Edit: Probably explained by the fact that there's not a download link next to the game in the "My Games" section on their site.... Great. Where's Emily when you need her?
  2. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Oddly enough, I think he's really cool. Call me weird. (I think we all know this video was for a competition, right? They were looking for the biggest Harry Potter fan, so he put on this presentation. Seems inventive to me, and probably deserves to win.) Unlike other "uber fans" at least this guy appears sane... He's got a good sense of humour, clearly doesn't take himself too seriously, and is a pretty impressive artist, to boot. Yeah, he's got a passion (maybe that's Passion, with a capital "P"), but I'm just in awe of someone that passionate about something... especially when, let's face it, even he's got to be aware of how it's taken by others. So, provided he's, you know, got friends and is able assimilate into society, I say, "go for it" (and presumably he's got at least one friend -- unless he really does have magic powers controlling the camera). When he said he could dress in Harry Potter gear for three months I did get a little worried that he was going to show a bunch of capes... but instead it was just a perfectly normal bunch of t-shirts. So, yeah. Now: The guys who roleplay as Jedis and actually wear Jedi robes walking down the street -- they freak me out. Time to grow up, dudes. It wasn't real. You're in Grimsby, not Tatooine, etc. Speaking of which, I guess this dude is the Steve Sansweet of Harry Potter (who, of course, is now the director of speciality marketing at LucasFilm), and that seems fair enough to me.
  3. Movie/TV recommendations

Well considering I found the books to be as equally entertaining as Lord of the Rings (and I'm a huge LotR fan) I can say I expected more... I don't understand why (almost) everyone is giving it a pass. As a stand alone movie, without low expectations based on bad reviews or previous poor experiences in the series... I think it's, I'm sure you're all aware by now, bland. Anyways, instead of ranting, I'm going to try and be constructive... I have to ask: Did those of you who liked it get emotionally involved at this point? When you don't think of it as a stand-alone film, and start comparing it to the book, it gets even worse for me (which is one of the reasons I've tried not to do it). In the book you're just thinking, "Wow. They're just totally and utterly fucked. The whole of society cannot be trusted, everyone's looking for them, and not only have they got to escape, hide and not die, but they've also got to do the impossible: Find several random objects about which they know absolutely zero about, and could be anywhere and anything on the entire planet -- and they've got no contact with or help from anyone else. They are totally and utterly fucked." I don't know if the folks who liked the film felt that feeling. I certainly didn't, but it'd be nice to think that some did. Another thing: again, I don't know if people felt that? It certainly wasn't a terrible film, I guess we all agree on that, I just don't think it was very good. Thinking about it now, it seems that how you interpret the film might come down to what your expectations were: If you were expecting an average/bad film you thought, "well, it wasn't bad!". If you were expecting something good (like me) then you thought, "well, that wasn't very good!". Hmm. Maybe I've just answered my own question at the top of this post. Anyways, enough of that. Bring on the Oscar contenders, dammit -- I've got my cinema pass to use up! In other news: I watched the infamously terrible Otto Preminger movie Skidoo the other day... and I quite enjoyed it, despite how terrible it was. (Oh, the irony.)

You're both wrong.... It's sooo incredibly bland!!! David Yates is the biggest "non-director" I've ever seen. It's like watching wallpaper. I appreciate the moments he underplayed.... but when he calls for the BIG moments (like the very last scene) I felt about as emotional as if I was watching a Coke commercial. I cannot understand anyone who didn't find the Deathly Hallows incredibly, incredibly bland.... despite the few amusing scenes.... it lacked any emotional punch at all. Ahhhhh! *leaps out of window*
  5. Bot quotes

Ok, I'm getting annoyed now... three new posts to look at... three new bits of spam. Woo.
  6. Costume Quest

DLC and a patch have been announced... although I still haven't played this, it's nice to know that some of the frustrating aspects (i.e. saving) have been ironed out... http://www.doublefine.com/news/comments/you_love_this/

Interesting. I was never a big fan of Dirk Gently, but I thought it had potential. Saw the Deathly Hallows. MEH! Another completely bland David Yates film. I feel really sorry for the people who are seeing the story through the movies. Not only are they missing out on an excellent experience reading the books, but they're also getting everything spoiled for them... so if they do go back, they won't have as good an experience. But forgetting all that, even as a film in its own right, it's MEH. Not terrible, but certainly not great. Made me yearn for Lord of the Rings, a fantasy film actually made me feel something as I watched it. Still, it looked beautiful (in places) and there were some occasionally good moments... but MEH!
  8. Kinect

    Wow, that's awesome. Congratulations!
  9. Bot quotes

    Why?
  10. Bot quotes

There was a brilliant one in the film thread that included the line, "Do you like gladiator movies?". I took the opportunity to take it out of its context with an Airplane clip... but the mods deleted the original bot post in an unusually fast bit of admin. Unintentionally funny bots
  11. Awesome TED Talks (and similar enlightening lectures)

Your pants are about to get ruined.
  12. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

    I love Cracked.
  13. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

Good job on the research. I guess he's kind of a (very) minor celeb. IpbVrHQuF6U I assume if he'd never been seen again, it would have appeared on his blog... http://trashman-2009.livejournal.com/ Edit: Oh jeez, I now know far more than I ever wanted to... He seems perfectly fine, and here's a video of him being arrested. -4MG7D6vNmg
  14. Deus Ex 3...

But orange and teal is uber hip!
  15. Deus Ex 3...

I loved Deus Ex 1... and I couldn't believe how prescient it was about 9/11. Ok, so the details were quite a bit different, BUT: A world gone anti-terrorist crazy after a surprise attack on a New York landmark? Not a million miles away from the mark. I've love to play it again with new skins and models, it's dated pretty badly now. Stun gun and crossbow ftw!
  16. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

What is actually going on in that photo? (It's hilarious, but I do worry for the man inside the box.)
  17. More Psychonauts definitely gets my vote, I'm afraid. I would love to see more of that universe. Episodic Psychonauts FTW!
  18. Broken Sword: Director's Cut

It's like the infamous Goat Puzzle from the first game (which they fixed in the Director's Cut). Glad you enjoyed 2, though, even if some puzzles and mechanics have dated.
  19. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

    So funny!
  20. L.A. Noire

Sounds more promising! If they can steer away from story and character cliches, I'll be sold.

Classic movie! Some great moments, some terrible, but all done with enough... something... to keep it great. Apparently that ridiculously long fight scene was because Piper and his co-star came to the set having worked out the whole thing. Carpenter was so impressed he shot it all. (My memory might be failing me here.) Edit: Meh. I was kind of right... Also Lol. And... What a guy!
  23. Movie/TV recommendations

Yes, that is pretty amazing. I should see that.
