  1. Spelunker HD

Because the devil makes work for idle th -- No, that's not right.
  2. Movie/TV recommendations

Just got back from watching Rare Exports at my local World of Cine. What a hugely enjoyable and well made movie! It was really nicely paced, had great atmosphere, and look beautiful. It may have been low budget, but you certainly never felt it. Plus, it's obviously quirky and brilliant as fuck Totally agreed. I'm sure a younger audience would love this (as long as they don't slow movies). A bit of a shame it didn't get a 12. Also saw Monsters. Another fantastic low budget movie. I would highly recommend it... just go expecting a love story (which is what it is) and you'll be fine
  3. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

    Haha. Very good
  4. Never playing Super Meat Boy again.

Eep. I thought it'd have been the "photo-sensitive" type, but I don't know much (or anything) more than that. Sucks, dude. Thankfully there are a lot of great slower games to play... Although I understand if you don't want to take that risk. Bummer
  5. Books, books, books...

I think I might check that out. Thanks for the recommendation Tangent warning I know this will mean less than nothing to most of you, but I need to get it out: I've been re-reading Buffy Season 8 (the comic series that follows the show). I was mightily disappointed in the "big reveal" at first (I won't spoil it, but for those who don't know what I'm talking about, there was a big reveal about four fifths in that the series had been building up to), but I decided to go back and see if it worked better the second time around... It did. Sure, there's still problems where the main thrust of the story seems to get lost, and the whole "world united against Slayers" thing happened far too fast and far too unrealistically. (When do people agree on anything... Let enough people caring enough to have an opinion.) But for the most part the series is way stronger than I first noticed. It turns out that the big reveal was actually hinted at right from the beginning, and there was a pretty accurate explanation of that "Twilight" was, too. Apparently, if you were paying attention, and not waiting for the comic to hold you by the hand, it actually spells it out several times, very plainly. I was just doing a rather crappy job at being a reader the first time around. So I was happy about that... I was even happier to discover that this final arc, the one I've been reading tonight, is sooo good that it's got me all worked up the way the series did when I watched it. In fact, thinking about the original series is a great analogy for how I feel right at this moment, having just read the penultimate issue. Hopefully some of you who will have watched TV shows on DVD that they have LOVED. If so, you'll know the feeling I'm currently exploding with... the "just one more episode" feeling. Actually, it's worse than that, it's the "there's only one more episode to go" feeling. It's the feeling that makes you late for work the next day, because you just can't go to bed without watching that final episode... And there's been some MAJOR Buffyverse events happening here... I need to know what happens next. The only problem is, I can't just press play on a DVD: The final issue, the season finale, isn't out for another five weeks. FIVE WEEKS. I think I might die. I have no idea how regular comic readers (who buy the "new issue" of their fave comic every month or so) cope. (Well actually, I'm also baffled how they can get so excited about a story told in piecemeal over a period of years, but...) How do they do it? How do they cope with tortuous moments like this when the final moments are being withheld for weeks? It's a wonder to me that comics have survived as a form of entertainment... it's more like cruel and unusual punishment. *sigh* I guess I'm just too impatient... Everything is available in a second these days, but dammit - I need to know now, because now is when I really care. I fear that in five week's time I will have lost this feeling. Anyways sorry! I just had to get this feeling out so I can sleep now. Good night! Edit: Question for anyone who's read where I'm up to:
  6. Life

That's brilliant. Then just feign total ignorance if someone starts to "correct" you
  7. It wasn't sarcasm. I don't really buy into this latest complaint, and I would like to see you finish what you set out to do before. Just in a friendly way. I've not actually heard of any of the games you mention apart from Monkey Island and A Vampyre's Tale. I'm sure there's plenty of adventure games that don't mention Monkey Island, too. It sounds like you've just had a run of bad luck.
  8. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Ah. That's a little weird, then. It kind of does cheapen the image, oddly enough. Thankfully I don't know anything about those folks or their music, so it makes no difference to me. Plus, it doesn't come close to the most offensive album cover of all time.
  9. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Got it working. Hilarious and weird. Shame the picture quality was so awful on the full version.
  10. Cheer up, Tanukitsune, I actually defended you last time.
  11. How are those Mega Man sprites coming along?
  12. Kinect

Did it suddenly go all 4chan in here?
  13. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Damn, not working anymore... although it looked really promising. Damn it.
  14. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Jesus. Yeah, I'm sure Osama bin Laden is sleepness at night at the thought of folks in Buttfuck, Iowa shopping at Walmart.
  15. Life

I'm pretty sure it's less wintery than Finland... Here in London it is just grey and wet and cold. No snow.
  16. Tomb Raider

Haha. Some great stuff in this thread
  17. Procedural Cities in Next Introversion Game

Totally concur. It doesn't matter if it's stripped back, that's fine, but it needs to look somewhat attractive to the eye. They really need an extra guy with an eye for design and UI in there to do a "Jake" on the thing.
  18. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Hmm. Are we all talking about the same thing? I was talking about this: Which may be something completely different to what everyone else is talking about? What upset you so, Snooglebum? Was it this?
  19. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I think it's quite stylized (we're talking about Teenage Bad Girl/Cocote, right?). It's possibly a bit childish, but the 60s throwback artwork shows it's aiming for something else... It's not trying to just be sexy for the sake of it, in fact it's quite ugly in many ways. Not to be contrary, but I quite like it. I wouldn't like it if I thought it was sexist or demeaning, though.
  20. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

    That is so freaking wonderful!
  21. WTF is Telltale's new game?

Great bug fixes... I finally won a hand (Main Pot) with a Flush and I didn't get my achievement  Plus the Strong Bad deck is still broken. As is the "one on one" camera. Love the new "Main Pot"/"Side Pot" breakdowns, and the min raise changes, though. Also, I finally saw a Tell (Strong Bad slamming his head on the table and then declaring, "I'm good!". Hilarious!)
  22. Tomb Raider

Do you think it was a good enough story for it to be retold, but "better"? Or a bad enough story that it needed to be stricken from the canon? They're the only two reasons I can think why something would need its story rebooted :-/ I still think this is just a Lara reboot, myself, but it would be great if they really do add something new to the mix.
  23. Tomb Raider

If there was ever a franchise in less need of "rebooting" What are they going to "reboot"? The story (did anyone actually follow it? did it continue between games?)... The characters (there's Lara, and, um a butler?)... The gameplay (one of the best things about the series)... Or Lara herself? *bingo!* I guess I could be wrong, but unless they're really going to dive hard into her life and "origin" story, and make that a really important and integral aspect of the new game, then I don't see the point. Still, if they reduce her chest size and the amount of make-up she wears, it'll be a step in the right direction... but even in that "realistic" depiction on that magazine cover, she seems to be aimed at pubescent males. Cynicism aside... if all went well, maybe it could be Croft's Casino Royale to her Moonraker?
