Why didn't you follow the advice in this thread that you asked for? Testing the cable connection YOURSELF first. -
Interesting stuff about Nixon... but let's not forget the guy was a lying bastard who would do anything (anything!) to get power. But if he did some good stuff along the way, then that's cool. You know, for all its problems, I honestly believe America is going to be fine... eventually. It's not about to drive itself into the ground, and even if things did get worse before they got better, it'd only provide lessons for the future (lessons that most countries have learned by now). As Churchill once said, "You can always rely on America to do the right thing... once it's tried everything else". I think the hysteria needs to be dialled down a bit (hence my complaint about the utter shite that passes for news over there -- I was shocked, and continue to be shocked, even by network news). I remember talking to a fellow who was doing a PhD while travelling to Seattle a few years ago. He was absolutely freaked about the whole healthcare reform... but it was blatantly clear that he had zero idea what he was talking about. I, myself, was completely unaware what the whole healthcare reform was about at the time, so I just listened. Then I went home and read up about what was actually going on, and realised that his grasp of the situation was... weird. He summed it up like this: "These new reforms are trying to stop doctors from being able to say certain things to their patients." Yes. That's how he summed up the issue to an outsider... WTF? Fear without knowledge. I think that sums up my experiences of talking to the most hysterical folk in the US (certainly a minority, I might add). With some knowledge that they trusted, I think they'd see that things aren't really anywhere near as bad as they think.

Haha! I like that explanation

As elmuerte said, faster isn't always faster... Most of the time you're not going to be using your 50mb/s connection (like when you're surfing the next, checking emails, etc.). More important is the quality of your connection and your ping rate. I'd take a good quality 10mb/s connection over a crappy 50mb/s any day. Check back with your ISP and explain the problems you're having. In short: If YOU (not the technician) is still having a crappy connection over a wired connection, then it's not your wifi. -
I can just hear the mummy cat: "Damn kids!"

I think if you look back, it's surprising how this sort of thing has been going on for a while. Both Reagan and Bush Senior were pretty insane, too. And before that was Nixon. And in place of Obama was Jimmy Carter. Their country always seems to have this massive split down the middle... and I can't help but think it comes from not having enough history, and really poor quality news. That's my 2c, anyway. I'm probably wrong.

It's funny because Portal's Steam achievements are some of the worst I've ever seen. They make perfect sense, they're just WAY too hard (and the camera one is really boring).

Well, it's from the point the Bible, and therefore the voice of God (if you believe in the guy). The actual quote is: "Thou shall not lie with mankind as with womankind". How about this, as a possibly better way of deliberately misinterpreting this abominable bit of homophobia: "You can sleep with many women at once (womankind), but only one guy at a time (i.e. not mankind)." Or you could just go with interpreting the world "lie" as being deceitful. Anyway, achievements.
-
That's the way to do it
-
Me either, that was the most frustrating part of Portal to me. The idea of having to deal with that with a controller sounded like a nightmare, but it seems they must have come up with a decent solution.

Sounds like it might be more enjoyable on an XBox!

There's no way in hell she's going to be President. I think we can all breathe a sign of relief Here's a song to calm our collective nerves... 0VPcPCwK_G0

Hmmm. And my point was that you can't... but Ok. I agree "Boosting" can be interpreted in many different ways, though. For example, there's some GTAIV achievements that you're never going to get without outsite help. Such as the ones that require you to complete the missions in record time -- If the people you're playing with don't know precisely what to do, and precisely when to do it, you're never going to get the achievement. It requires serious coordination.

Yeah, it's on their site... On the left hand side.

I remember it getting really twitchy in the PC version (the bit where you've got to aim at the base of other platform as you're bouncing through Portals, in order to get higher and higher, springs to mind. Maybe using a mouse makes it harder? Good to hear it's easy to play, though.
-
That's a rather bizarre interpretation, lol!

Yep, it was you. Fair enough, though

Great stuff... Hmm. I'm dead last. We need Jake to join. Edit: Need to add RealNoyb (I don't think anyone can add themselves). Nice to have us all in one place, even though an overall score is meaningless (and I'm not just saying that cause I'm last )

I tried to create a "Thumbs" group... but I can't find how you make groups :-/ So far we have: Me Jonac13 patters666 AkuMifune Lord Korax toblix twmacb RealNoyb Come join the fun http://www.trueachievements.com/

I know exactly what you mean. I haven't played Uncharted 2, but when achievements get into realms of Multiplayer or collecting a bazillion things, then I'm not interested. GTAIV's achievements are pretty good... until you get to the multiplayer stuff -- It's WAY too hard. Also, the DLC had some really shitty ones, like doing all the basejumps in Gay Tony (which are really boring and crappy) or knocking 69 people off their bikes in Lost and Damned races. That sense of "relief" is there for me, too, though, and I'd be really happy if I had a 100% completion for GTAIV + DLC... They have me by the balls! Lol.

And then I saw this video, and I'm not so impressed. Hmph! tW3mbLAKrsY Pretty pointless.

This site rocks! Everyone should join (and make me happy).

I'm in! (Although "boosting" may be a little too far for me -- not sure.)

Yeah, I'm not sure that anyone's living room really looks like that... but it'd be funny if it did.
