Here's a great breakdown of the benefits of x64 over x86: http://superuser.com/questions/56540/32-bit-vs-64-bit-systems Actually, I don't believe that 32-bit applications can make use of the extra RAM. Edit: It appears that I am wrong. While a 32-bit application cannot use more than 2GB of RAM without special tricks (so 99.999% games or apps would not benefit from having extra RAM directly) -- If you were running several of 32-bit apps, then the extra RAM would be of use. (No idea why you wouldn't just close Photoshop if you were running Mass Effect, though...)

Also, those looking for a further guide, Ars Technica's is my usual go-to place. Ars System Guide (September 2010) "Budget" Box - $799 "Hot Rod" Box - $1,250

Surely this can't be right? 8GB? Why would anyone need 8GB? Even in a x64 operating system most applications won't ever address anything that high... right? (Am I totally wrong here?) Also, running x64 as standard? I think it depends on your hardware and software, doesn't it? I was just thinking of making the switch to x64 myself, but I play a lot of older games... and I understand this would make it harder for them to run. Plus, if there's no 64 bit drivers for your hardware, you basically can't use it. Interesting. Anyone else using a x64 OS?

I smell movie adaptation! Edit: -
Yeah, but at the time, people were giving Gondry ZERO credit for the VISUAL look of the film. They were pretty much buying into the idea that all of the visual flair was already in Kaufman's script. That may seem stupid now, but that's why he got so upset (allegedly). I seem to recall Gondry later saying that none of that flair was in the script and it was all him (which I can believe). As for Science of Sleep, the idea that the lead character suffers of some illusionary mental illness doesn't really add anything of value to the film for me. Of course, that may have been Gondry's intention, and you're absolutely right, but it doesn't add anything of any value for me.

Wow. That's a seriously impressive tech demo.

I heard Gondry was upset that Kaufman got all the recognition for Eternal Sunshine (I don't know if that's true or not), but to be fair to him, it looks like it was a great collaboration with Kaufman, judging from both their later works. I was definitely in the "Kaufman is a genius camp" after Adaptation, though. I remember he was in the same aisle as me in Ralph's once... just after Adaptation was released. I really wish I'd said hello, as that film blew my mind. *Regret*

Ooh. What did you do on it?
-
Yep, I get you. I have to see that movie again. It was so good.
-
Traumatized? Can't remember why that would be the case... awesome, though.
-
Hehe. I hated those chores, too. Utterly annoying as far as I was concerned.
-
Ah, yes. That would make a lot more sense (Ian does do that sort of thing for a living afterall - lol!). I was thrown when he wrote: "Possibly the best salary for games tester I've ever seen."

Very true. The City of Lost Children (the unrelated follow-up) is well worth your time

I'm holding out for story and characters.

They probably edited it out.

I like it! The attention to detail is great... although it's getting a little closer to my tower. -
I hate people who talk in libraries!

WTF? There's no way in hell they'd pay that amount of money to a games tester. I used to be a games tester for Sony (and I was damned good at it, if I do say so myself) and they were turning people away at the doors (not literally, but you get what I mean). No way it was 50K. No way. (And I live just a short train ride from Surrey, too.)

"Auntie Pixelante" VS. Jim Sterling... MisandryVs. misogyny?

Sorry, I don't buy it. An "equal opportunist hater" is just a common excuse for someone to disguise the fact that they're prejudice... In fact, I can't think of anyone who has ever truly fallen into that category. Does he attack gamers? Does he attack ranting game-reviewers? Does he attack people who like to hear someone angrily whine and bitch about things? Edit: I haven't actually read anything in this thread other than the first post, so if this has already been covered and is about to die, please ignore me. I only came here because Vimes made such a fuss about it. -
The only other thing I can think of is the big discussion about politics. So we're mostly left-leaning here (as it turns out). So there's a lot of anti-right stuff thrown around. I actually tried to get a discussion going about what left and right actually were, so there wouldn't be so much anti-right rhetoric thrown around, but nobody was interested... Instead of leaving passive aggressive notes around the place, why don't you attempt to be part of a solution? Either a) Leading by example, and create threads that make us bond over something we all love, or Make a thread voicing your opinion about what's making you unhappy... Instead of waiting for someone to ask you what your bitter grumblings actually mean.

Yeeps. Oh well. Good luck!

Hmm. Be interesting to see the whole story on this, and just how severe it actually is... Is this a really old Alpha or a really recent Beta? (HL2 did ok after a really early version was leaked, right?) Can the "master key" just be changed to a new one? Crytek just got a lesson in security Time will tell just how crushing this is for Crytek, I guess. Hopefully it won't be too bad... but it's not looking good. I wonder who leaked it? Edit: Interesting post on FacePunch
