  1. Movie/TV recommendations

I really enjoyed it, I was just helping Ben distil his thoughts.
  2. Movie/TV recommendations

Or to put it another way: "I didn't like or enjoy a single aspect of this film."
  3. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence

Totally agree with most of this. The open area moments were just beyond difficult and not at all fun. (I ended up reloading so many times in order to get through them with some semblance of respectability.) I think it may have had to do with my playing style, though. I think the game wanted you to sneak past guards, not take them out, IIRC. Whereas my instincts was to "clear" the area before moving on. Whatever it was, it was vastly different to the previous games, and extraordinarily difficult. People seemed to go on a lot about how "realistic" MGS 3 was, and while it may have been true regarding the gameplay mechanics, I felt the story and characters were way more two-dimensional and cartoony than ever before. In that respect I'd say it was the least realistic of the MGS series. I guess the whole thing was a nod and a wink to 60s spy/action hero stuff (Bond and comic book super-villains -- a weird mixture), but it was certainly a difficult beast to like. MGS 2 remains my favourite, although I'd love to get "into" MGS 3 at some point, because I'm sure there's a great game in there that I just couldn't find.
  4. Recently completed video games

Haha, same. I can't imagine another game giving me as much pleasure this year, but we'll see.
  5. Battlestar Galactica (BSG) and spinoffs

Hehe, really? I've wondered. I tried to come up with a decent reason for them, but I couldn't. I guess it's just "the style". Like the fact that people wear their tank tops backward. Try not to notice!
  6. Battlestar Galactica (BSG) and spinoffs

I totally agree, but it's not the case with BSG. It's your choice, though. Watch them in the broadcast order if you like (I hope it's clear what that it is from my list -- let me know if it's not) and get back to me afterwards. I'd be interested in your opinions if you go down that route. (It's worth noting that I watched them in broadcast order first... and then wished I hadn't, which is why the list stands in the way it does at the moment.)
  7. Portal 2

I don't know, but they were so scripted that I couldn't listen to them for very long. Do they get any better than the early ones? (Also: You should see a number to reveal how many are in an area, right? 1/4, 2/4, etc. Does that help ensure you're seeing them all?)
  8. Portal 2

It's for reasons like this that I'm glad I don't watch TV -- I am getting a little tired of his shtick, but it worked for the game.
  9. Portal 2

I have to say, some of this "negative" feedback seems like a reaction to the overwhelming praise the game already had. I think if I'd gone in expecting the moon, I would have focussed on where it failed to deliver. As it turned out, I was expecting to be disappointed, preparing myself for more of the "twitch"-based puzzles from the first game (which I hated). As it turned out to be something so much better and more enjoyable than I was expecting, I couldn't help but focus on its good bits.
  10. Movie/TV recommendations

It's the only Guy Ritchie movie I've ever enjoyed, although I thought Downey Jr. was terrible when he was being the "smart" Holmes -- far more enjoyable when he was making mistakes.
  11. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

    I hate you
  12. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

This is extreme(ly awful) advertising. (What has my profession come to? First X-Men, now this? WTF is going on?)
  13. Portal 2

Woah. How did they miss this? That's a pretty big oversight.
  14. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Cracks me up. I must have watched this 20 times. Lol.
  15. Awesome Medical Breakthroughs Thread

There's something horribly disturbing about that video... The way it uses this person's trauma to sell something.
  16. Portal 2

Pro tip: Don't con yourself into thinking you'll just give co-op a "quick go" before bed. You'll still be playing it two and a half hours later.
  17. Good Old GOG

I'll check those out. Thanks, Gwardinen. Haven't played either of them. Nor have I played Earthworm Jim, MDK, Oddworld or, come to think of it, just about anything I haven't already listed. I have big gaps in my PC gaming!
  18. Portal 2

The only times I got really stuck was when I couldn't see where the game wanted me to go. The longest was in , I think. When you have to catapult you through the . I just could figure out if I had missed a portal-able platform or what. The co-op mode is great. It's almost an entire single player game... but with someone else there. (Portal 2.5?) Just played through it with PiratePoo, lots of fun. A microphone is essential IMHO, though.
  19. Movie/TV recommendations

    I did not know that.
  20. Portal 2

So are we all connected via Steam or what? I've never really looked after my Steam account as much as my XBL one. I'm ThunderPeel2001. Please add me if we're not already connected.
  21. Life

Wow, it's nice to know the next time I do 20 minutes on a stair machine I've just walked up the CN tower. (Did you go to the deck level or the Sky pod? Also, did you meet anyone else?)
  22. Idle Thumbs Camping

<-- Very jealous and hating you.
  23. Good Old GOG

Help me pick three GOG games. I already own: Psychonauts, Planescape: Torment, The Last Express. (I.e. All the "must buys".) Plus: Another World: SE, Fallout, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. And: Outcast, In Cold Blood, Myst. Are there any "must buys" that I've missed out on?
  24. Movie/TV recommendations

Your Highness. Your Dullness, more like.

Vimes is right. Disney is a soulless fuck of a company, but to say that they only became successful because they leeched other people's work is untrue. Also, to say they leeched from "public domain" works in their early days is untrue. Their first films were Pinocchio, Dumbo, Bambi, and they were all based on copyrighted works. Fantasia was original. Only their very first, Snow White, was a public domain story.
