  1. E3 2K11

That's interesting. I wonder if they'll ever made upgradable consoles in that way. I suppose it makes sense that they would. The 360/PS3 aren't really that far behind PC gaming at the moment, so it seems like a whole new architecture would be overkill. I imagine it will continue like that in the future.
  2. Far Cry 3

This is why I love Idle Thumbs.
  3. E3 2K11

I hope it's several years away. I still feel like my XBox is new.
  4. Duke Nukem Forever Canned [and then not]

    It does exist...

  7. Life

That's definitely been my experience. When I hit triple digits I started sleeping like a baby.
  8. Duke Nukem Forever Canned [and then not]

I don't believe it... Is it really out??
  9. Life

There's only one way to be sure of a good night's sleep: Everyone in the whole world!
  10. L.A. Noire

Here's my predictions for how the story is going to end (I'm still in homicide and my prediction has changed a lot already -- but we'll see). Just throwing that out there... Time will tell if I'm right or not. Hopefully soon!
  11. L.A. Noire

Ha! I switched to black and white for a while. That whole era is b&w to me and it was jarring to see it in colour. That said, I got over it and switched back. It's cool to evoke classics like Sunset Boulevard. The Social Club stuff for Red Dead Redemption was surprisingly good. It seems Rockstar are really trying to add value. I'll check out LA Noire's, although I don't know what a Collectible Challenge is.

Interesting. Sounds like it may be worth a read then.
  13. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

It seems Nintendo are returning to an idea they had years ago with the GameCube and GBA. It'll be interesting to see if they can get it to work, or if there's actually any real benefit to having a second screen in your lap. (Personally I think it'll just be annoying to keep having to refocus your eyes.) Also, if the tablet controller was HD, wouldn't those with SD TVs prefer to use that over their TV?
  14. Cities in Motion

No. You're thinking of Peter Molyneux's Rollercoaster Tycoon.
  15. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

I remember having to sit through some Yank ranting during a GTA IV race about how amazing his country was after some Brit insulted it. He just wouldn't shut up. It was so annoying. Someone complained me trash talking, too. Which is odd, because I don't do that -- although I may swear in frustration.

Aye, I know about that, but I wasn't talking about the language used, but the delivery style. It could have been a lot more naturalistic, even with the weird words injected into the language. Also, apparently there's two versions of the book. One with a chapter at the end where -- which is the author's preferred text, and the other one (without that chapter) that Kubrick read and preferred. I haven't read either, but I think I'm with Kubrick.
  17. L.A. Noire

Yeah, as I'm getting through it (I'm currently on the BD treasure hunt, so quite early, I think) I'm learning the game's logic more. I have one confession, though. I was feeling like I was totally and utterly useless as a detective and/or the game was far too freaking random, so I started using a Walkthrough halfway through one case. I decided what my answer was going to be, but before I pressed the button I checked the walkthrough to see if I'd gotten it right. Even though I only did it for half a case (and I'd already made mistakes), it really helped me get my head around the game's logic. In this particular instance, Toblix, the game logic goes like this: The guy says he wasn't there, and demands proof he was. Phelps produces the receipt in order to challenge his story. If you think about it, there isn't really ever any conclusive proof. Even his fingerprints wouldn't prove that he was there when it happened. Even an eye-witness could be lying. You just have to leverage whatever evidence the game gives you that might contradict a suspect's version of events. That seems to be working for me so far, anyway.

So I went to see Win Win (great movie) and guess what. Totally different cinema (same chain, though), and the front left speaker wasn't working. So all the music only came from the right side of the screen. Ugh. Time to write a letter to this dreaded chain: CineWorld.

So many rules... What happened to good ol' fashioned trash talk? TEWIw-a0GJw
  20. Bitchy thread tags

Hi everyone, I'm going to go out on a limb here and bring up the current trend of leaving bitchy thread tags. Tags started off as fun way of labelling a thread, but lately it seems they've become a way for people to leave snide remarks about a poster and not have to take responsibility for them. For example; Just recently there was a minor conflagration between myself and Sno in the "Valve re-play" thread, and someone saw fit to post a Doraleous and Associates reference: "What do you see?" "I see a bitch." Whether it was aimed at me or Sno, it's still really lame and wasn't going to help anything. There's been other examples in recent months, too, and I'm wondering how people feel about this? It seems to me to be nothing more than a cowardly way to insult people, which may be how you could describe the internet itself, but I don't think it's very cool here on the Thumbs. Maybe it's time we reviewed them? (I await the inevitable tag responses.)

So how does it work in the context it's being used here? "Weird GG"?
  22. Recently completed video games

I'd just be interested in a general response: Good/bad? Met expectations/letdown?
  23. Movie/TV recommendations

Hanna - Actually really good. Very much like Leon. Sort of set in the same world of incredible evil adults and incredible adept youngsters. Recommended. Senna - Best film I've seen in a while. I knew nothing about Formula 1 and had little or no interest in it. Doesn't matter, force yourself to watch this. Anyone will enjoy it. Henna - A Clockwork Orange - (Yes, I was late to this particular party) Damned ugly movie, and the dialogue is delivered in this weird mock-Shakespearian way, but the ending makes it all worth while. Very good. X-Men First Class - A wasted opportunity. Not sure what happened, but it felt like it was between re-writes. Nowhere near as solid and polished as it could (should?) have been. Also, Prof X and Magneto have almost no depth added to their characters... and in the end it sort of re-treads X-Men 2. I would have loved to see Prof X and Magneto start off as different people, and slowly change into who we know them as. E.g. Magneto starts off trusting (difficult, knowing his Nazi back-story, but nobody said it would be easy). Gets betrayed. Learns to be bitter. Prof X starts off gung-ho about how powerful they all are. Gets his students killed (or something). Learns to be reserved with humility. Then at least there's an interesting back-story to who they are. Instead we see them as essentially exactly the same people they've always been. It adds next to nothing to the mythology. Still, it wasn't terrible. Better than X-Men 3, not as good as X-Men 2.

WTF does GG mean? I thought it meant "good game"

    Doh. I forgot.
