  1. Movie/TV recommendations

    Exactly.
  2. L.A. Noire

Also the ability to record and make videos is pretty nifty. That said, I've read in quite a few places that AA can't be enabled in GTAIV PC. Did they patch it?
  3. Movie/TV recommendations

If you've never enjoyed a western, I can't imagine why this would change things. That said, I haven't watched much of Deadwood, but it just doesn't strike me as raising above its genre.
  4. The ASTOUNDING thread of science!

    Some things are just unknowable.

Clearly you think I was attacking you, JC. The reason I brought up Miffy was to explain why I mentioned buying a VGA lead. Also, I'm sorry I didn't think the video was significantly better, but that was just my honest opinion. You never mentioned you'd had first-hand experience of either the console or PC version, so I wasn't contradicting your experience at all -- I was just talking about the video you posted. I then did more research and found an article that backed you up (but you misread what I wrote and assumed I'd said that I'd found an article that contradicted your personal experience). From repeatedly misunderstanding what I was saying about LA Noire (I never said the game was devoid of "fun") to now accusing me of doing something I never did -- you can hopefully understand that that might appear to me as antagonistic? If you've compared and played both versions of GTAIV, then of course I'll take your word for it, just like I did with Patters earlier in the thread. Anyways, it seems we've both rubbed each other up the wrong way. Let's move on.
  6. L.A. Noire

Yes, that was the wrong word. I've changed it now.
  7. L.A. Noire

Again, I don't know what your problems is. Every time I post something in this thread you've done your best to turn it into an argument. From arguing with me about my opinion of the game, to asking why someone might prefer a PC version over a console one. My question was aimed at those who'd just said they wanted a PC version of Rockstar games. My eye was on Miffy, in particular, because he owns a PS3 and an XBox 360 -- and I've played GTAIV with him over XBL many times. Your answer that those people will want the PC version because of motion sickness, difficulty with the controls, or not having an HD TV seems quite presumptuous to me. I know for a fact that Miffy doesn't suffer from motion sickness and doesn't have problems with the controls (or at least he never complained about them when we played together), so that leaves the need for a HD TV, which is why I pointed out that a PC monitor was an option, as opposed to spending another $50 on each game just to play it in HD. Patters, who I also played online with, and so I know is familiar with the console version, then helpfully answered my question. I responded to him, and said I'd probably gotten the wrong end of the stick, then. At no point during our conversation did you ever state you had first hand experience of either the console version or PC version of GTAIV. I then said I'd read an article that agreed with you, and that I'd check out the PC version one day.
  8. Books, books, books...

Cool. Wodehouse can be great when he's on form! I'd like to hear your thoughts on In the Name of the Rose when you finish it. I've heard good things, too.
  9. Movie/TV recommendations

I agree that it's well made, and definitely has things to recommend it, but if it wasn't the first film to feature an unreliable narrator, I don't think it would have quite the status it does now. It's a good film, but not a great one, IMO. (Side note: My DVD version came with the two short stories that the film is based on. I thought they were excellent.)
  10. L.A. Noire

I don't know what your problem is, JC. You posted the video as proof, not me.
  11. Books, books, books...

Ooh. I was tempted to pick this up. I hope it's as good as Bone.
  12. The ASTOUNDING thread of science!

I totally agree. That left brain/right brain stuff was a weird way to begin, and that stuff about explaining why objects don't fall through each other. Plus his weird top and hair put me off. He seemed like he wanted to be a rock star more than a physicist... and I'd be surprised if he really did all this stuff by himself. The whole thing definitely felt a little weird.
  13. Mein Thumbcraft—IdleT Dedicated Minecraft Server

There's some great stuff there, it's a shame to see it go, but at least we can download it
  14. L.A. Noire

I just assumed that was down to grabbing video from a 360 -- it certainly looks clearer than that when you play it. Also, everything I've read about the PC version says its draw distance is the same as the 360 version. The textures are the same, and as far as I'm aware, so are the models, and, of course, it famously doesn't allow anti-aliasing. The only improvement from a PC version seem to come from water reflections and running at a higher resolution. Just doesn't seem that significant to me. Edit: I found an article that claims that things are much better visually on the PC (including the draw distance -- which is obviously a massive exaggeration considering you could pretty much see to infinity on the 360 version), I'll check it out one day.
  15. L.A. Noire

What significant differences? The draw distance at 2:00 in is identical. It looks a little crisper, but that's about it.
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

Rashomon is seriously overrated. Most cinemagoers don't realise that the reason it's critically noted is only because it was the first film to feature an unreliable narrator. Of course it's not bad, it's very well made, but it's pretty superficial.
  17. Happy Birthday!

    Happy birthday, Moelltini!
  18. L.A. Noire

Really? I heard they were both very bugged, and none of the screenshots I saw of GTAIV looked any better than the 360 version. I guess I got the wrong end of the stick. (Maybe I'll pick it up next time it's for sale on Steam -- I wouldn't mind an even slicker version of the game to play around in.)
  19. Books, books, books...

I see what he means... Every time I look at Cloud I feel conflicted and confused. He may look awfully blocky, low-res, and without textures but, dammit, that's just how I like my women. Am I gay?
  20. Mein Thumbcraft—IdleT Dedicated Minecraft Server

    I'm glad I don't have any fans
  21. Mein Thumbcraft—IdleT Dedicated Minecraft Server

Spiders. Why'd it have to be spiders?
  22. Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse

    This is totally spot on.
  23. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

I love at the end that he just throws it to one side. So funny.
  24. L.A. Noire

Can't you hook up your console to your PC monitor? (That's what I do.)
