Yep, that's true. It's probably what we're used to, as well. I imagine a younger generation watching a "video" look might fall in love with it, and it might represent what cinema is for them... It's quite a gamble for a fantasy movie, though, especially one I'm really looking forward to!

I picked up the Special Edition of Bioshock, but then I sold it (the model quality wasn't very good). I also picked up the Special Edition of Fallout 3, but only because it was the same price as the normal edition. That model was OK.

The colouring is pretty awesome, though. It's not just the cars, it's the world that looks more realistic.

Well I finally played GTAIV PC, but it seems you need a pretty decent rig to get it to play smoothly. I've got an Intel Core Duo 6600 with 4GB RAM (running x64) and a GeForce 8800 GTS. It's old, but it's still pretty beefy, but it's not enough to allow you to ramp up the draw distance, enable high-res textures, or enable AA. It runs just about smoothly at 1280x800 with everything set on Low or Medium. I'm guessing this mod would cripple my rig.

That's an awesome costume. I went to the London Comic-Con and saw some Boba Fetts in the style of Tron, which was pretty cool, but nothing as imaginative as that.

Mein Thumbcraft—IdleT Dedicated Minecraft Server
ThunderPeel2001 replied to MrHoatzin's topic in Multiplayer Networking
I concur: "Control room: No entry" reads like universe stuff, not a serious warning. The last server had a sign asking people to wipe their feet, for example. I'd suggest something less likely to evoke a playful reaction, such as: "Project in progress. Please do not build or interact. Thanks." -
So The Hobbit is going to be shot at 48fps... I'm a little concerned. One of the reasons people dislike how films shot on video look (Collateral, Public Enemies, etc.) is because they're 30fps instead of 24fps. The Hobbit might look REALLY weird and fake at that speed. Here's a good example of the differences is FPS: http://www.boallen.com/fps-compare.html Peter Jackson: "The key thing to understand is that this process requires both shooting and projecting at 48 fps, rather than the usual 24 fps (films have been shot at 24 frames per second since the late 1920′s). So the result looks like normal speed, but the image has hugely enhanced clarity and smoothness. Looking at 24 frames every second may seem ok — and we’ve all seen thousands of films like this over the last 90 years — but there is often quite a lot of blur in each frame, during fast movements, and if the camera is moving around quickly, the image can judder or 'strobe.'" Typical complaint about Public Enemies: "The problem I have with 30fps is that it seems so “real” – and that’s not meant in a good way at all. It feels like I’m on the set – watching the actors in real life – and that (for me) takes away the magic and purpose of the movies. I don’t need/want to know that Johnny Depp is a real person, acting in some movie, but to believe that the guy I’m watching is John Dillinger and that it’s actually the 1930′s I’m looking at – and I gotta admit that the 30fps kinda ruins that for me."

Yeah, I guess... I'm a little scared because I'm running an 8800 that's pretty old now.

Probably.

Yikes, apparently it does. From the readme: In other news: I had no idea that the GTAIII Era games had so many stars in them! I started playing San Andreas and heard Samuel Jackson's unmistakeable voice. I looked it up online and it turns out all the games have pretty awesome casts -- or at least interesting ones. I had no idea having only played GTAIV with only a few famous people -- who are mainly on the radio. It almost makes me want to play GTAIII and Vice City just to hear Dennis Hopper, Kyle MacClachlan, Burt Reynolds, Gary Busey, etc.

Indeed. I wonder if it increases the req specs?

Yeah, that's pretty nit-picky. There's plenty of great things about that movie, IMO. I saw Tree of Life, which I enjoyed a lot. It's very unsubtle, definitely has flaws, is very unconventional, and I can totally understand why people might dislike it, but I enjoyed it. If you want a reason to see this film, I can't think of anything better than this...

I agree with Mr RacingFreak. *Don't shoot!*

Jeff Goldblum is spamming our forum?! Wow! (I guess the jazz thing didn't work out too well...)

What about what subbes asked? That seems like the most likely reason for his tetchiness.

I can't believe you could do it in 5 hours on your first go. I'm pretty sure Steam is lying to you. According to my calculations (adding up all the videos in a Portal 2 walkthrough video on YouTube) it's possible to complete the game in five hours... but only if you don't stop to think about any of the puzzles. Edit: Huh. Maybe Steam lied to the rest of us... I started watching the video and the guy wasn't blasting through it at all. Hmm. Maybe 5 hours is perfectly possible on a first go? (Or maybe you're super good at puzzles?)

So you have two profiles? Is this a "feature" of Google Plus? I hope Google rolls this out properly. I don't want a social network filled with fake handles like MySpace or Twitter, I want real names like Facebook. The reason Facebook was so refreshing after MySpace was the fact it was actually useful for keeping in touch with real friends. Hmm.

So how does one get this Google Plus thing?

Ah, Rupert Murdoch... k9c-QVw-FWs

You can block people from your feed in Facebook. I'd take that over making everything I write to my friends visible to everyone on the internet.

Yeah, that's not so cool. I don't want a Facebook that's more open... Weird decision from Google.
