51.1% to be precise: http://bechdeltest.com/statistics/

Wow, that is shocking. Only 50% of movies tested pass. I wouldn't have believed it.

Oh wow. I had no idea it was that much. $60 a month! Thanks for keeping it running for so long. Isn't there some cheaper way of keeping it going? I know I haven't logged on in ages, but it's still fun to see what people are building. -
That was far too evil. I'm sure that 2000 of your deaths were from that trinket alone!
-
Completed this today, after many, many deaths. Great little game with some cool tunes. The escort mission was definitely the most difficult, but the final mission was also pretty hard. Still I didn't get stuck for too long.. I think. Here is my final (pitiful) score: Certainly felt good to finish it, though

The first game I completed with my brand new Radeon HD 6870 is.... VVVVVV. I think the 1GB of video card RAM made all the difference. Very nice little game
-
That doesn't appear to be true, either. http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com/2005/12/happy-sparkle-season.html

It does sounds pretty important, now that you mention it. Makes me wonder why it's not been a standard feature before. There was also this little nugget: It's nice to know that the next time I'm playing GTA behind enemy lines that graphics card buzzing won't give my position away. Also, seeing how MSI is a Taiwanese company, I assume that my card is build to the Taiwanese Military's standard...? (I'm not sure how good or bad that is?)

Yeesh, that's a complicated set of affairs. I suppose nobody can say any more than you've already said. Either it's ok (kinda) or it's really not. I suppose more knowledge of the person they were supposedly lampooning would help make it easier to be sure. Of course, clearly making a joke about bombing an airport is apparently not enough to get some people off the hook, so I don't know... Also: I am a feminist. Not sure where it came from that that's "not allowed"?

I'm glad to hear you don't totally subscribe to that comic, subbes. I look forward to your post about majorities and minorities. For me, it's pretty clear cut: Prejudice is defined by logic, not by any group of people.
-
Ugh. Sorry to turf this up, but I have to say... that comic that about "sexism" on the internet really offended me. From its self-pitying, defeatist tone, through the unbelievably sexist portrayal of men, right to the worst crime of all: Making it so that a man, like myself, cannot disagree with anything a woman says about sexism (or that comic) without having your opinion reduced to: Which is surely the very thing the comic is complaining about in the first place: Valid opinions being ignored and mocked. Note: If any other male members of this forum agree with me, then please DON'T POST HERE. I would guess that that's one aspect in which the comic is accurate: A bunch of people from Group A telling the minority Group B that they're wrong, comes dangerously close to bullying. (Conversely: If you disagree with me, then please jump on in. ) Sorry for (possibly) restarting this discussion. I missed the whole thing because of my computer being out of action. I went for a walk, but the comic was still bugging me so much that I had to post about it when I got back. Also, sorry for (arguably) picking on you, subbes. You're a wonderful addition to this forum, and I certainly wouldn't want to make you feel marginalised.
-
Huh. Wow, I missed a whole big discussion. Here's what I would have said, if it wasn't already too late: 1. Nothing wrong with sexy female Links. 2. Nothing wrong with finding a woman sexy because she's talented. The end.

Coming atcha through a Radeon HD 6870! Peeow... (and other fast noises). Yep, wow, GTAIV looks pretty sweet now. Shame it's a bit juddery... I suspect that my CPU is now a major bottleneck, and so causing problems. Damn PC gaming. Ah well. At least my new graphics card has "No explosion" listed as a feature on its box... Weird. I also got free copies of Lara Croft GOL and DiRT3. Pretty nifty. Now back to playing VVVVVV Oh, wait

Exactly. And that includes liking being wolf-whistled at, if that's your bag. Crazy and sad that some women (and men) don't understand feminism.

I love this speech (possibly for only Joss Whedon fans, but he says some very cool stuff for non-Whedon fans, I think): cYaczoJMRhs

Disclaimer: I haven't actually read this entire thread, I just wanted to add my own experiences with the word "feminism". Toblix is right to say that taken literally it seems to want to lead to a female domination of society... but as JamesM pointed out: Words in the English language often don't mean what they're supposed to mean. The word feminism refers explicitly to the equalisation of rights for men and women. Whatever its literal linguistic meaning, that's what it actually means, so I'm cool with it. Of course, I meet people who don't agree. A friend of mine insisted that they're not a feminist, that they hate feminism, and that they were actually an "equalist". There's just so many things wrong with the logic surrounding that argument that I don't know where to begin. (How about: You've invented a word to describe your movement that's literally meaningless, instead of using the existing word that already means what you want it to mean... So in order to help "clarify" your position, you've actually just made it harder for people to understand what you mean. Somewhat ironic. *sigh*) Words are constantly having their literal meanings corrupted (consider the word "literally" -- a most frustrating corruption). 6ly1UTgiBXM The most frustrating thing is when I meet women who say (defensively), "Oh, I'm not a feminist or anything!". To which I always say, "Why not?! I am!". It's sad that feminism has been associated with some sort of angry undesirable mob or something. I don't understand why anyone (let alone a woman) would ever say they weren't a feminist. It's sad.

I agree, but just as aside: Nobody renamed Christmas... hUOGrtj2iRU

Weekly film reviews: Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo. Highly recommended, even if you don't always agree with their conclusions. Good, wholesome, witty banter.

Screw it. I'm just going with the one I've ordered. Thanks everyone!

It's good to know before it's too late. I could still pick up a 5770 for two thirds of the price. Hmm. What to do... Anyone else want to share/update their opinion? :-/ A good price on a 5770: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-185-XF
